Welcome back to  Appliqué month here are BAQS!..  We have looked at Appliquick Tools in week 1  and Broidere Perse  in week 2, in week 3 we are going to be doing a small dive into wool appliqué.

Why a small dive?.. well it is a very deep pond, one that you could spend months paddling around in quite joyfully!  But the days are ticking by quickly so I am decided to focus on my person favorite, upcyle and recycle wool appliqué with a solid artistic/pattern free twist.

Fiber work of Alexa Lett

While there are many styles and ways to approach wool appliqué we often see it shown in a primitive style with dark colors and traditional motifs when in fact there are so many ways to do wool!

One of my favorite people in the artistic wool-work world ( say that three times fast!) is Alexa Lett, fiber artisan here in my own town of Chattanooga TN.  Alexa’s art is a joyful celebration of the many fiber artists  who have come before us and her style makes the most of both new wool and even more precious upcyle items from the past.  I HIGHLY suggest giving her a follow if you are looking for a constant source of  fiber inspiration from a most fantastic person.

Alexa’s style helps us understand that you don’t need patterns so much as imagination and inspiration to create fiber arts that make the heart sing. Not that there is anything wrong with a good pattern but I think we all know that free-wheeling in more my jam.

What about you?.. have you explored wool work through a modern lense that gives you room to layer, explore and  create in a more free way?
