You are not alone

Being liberal in the quilting world can feel isolating and that is why BadAss Quilters Society exists.  We are here to offer social support and community to liberal quilters and crafters who care about living in a world that values diversity and equality.

We believe that Love is Love, Science is Real, Reproductive Rights are Human Rights, Black Lives Matter and being neutral puts you on the side of the oppressor.

We do our best to be the strongest, loudest and best examples of what it means to be good humans living their lives on the left and loving side of history.

If this is you, welcome, you have found your people.

Hi, I am Maddie Kertay, founder of BadAss Quilters Society. I am a liberal AF, human who craves like minded community and does my best to be a supportive bright-light, truth-teller in an industry that favors shutting up, not rocking the boat and for women to stay in their place. I say “fuck that” and if you want to know more click on my About Maddie page for more about what you can expect here.

Sandi Suggs – Cover Quilter of the Week.

I am often guilty of thinking that I have to drive or fly far away to find quality quilting education and inspiration and feel like a total dolt when it turns out it is practically in my own back yard. Today's Cover Quilter is an amazing example of that,  Sandi Suggs...

Dusty Farrell – Cover Quilter

Wow, do I love my Cover Quilters and today is no exception.  As the mother of 5 boys ( and a girl!) I love seeing more and more men as part of the changing scene of quilting making this art form an equal opportunity adventure for all.   Dusty Farrell exemplifies all...

Bind Me up Baby!

Today I make binding for 4-5 quilts - I like to do it all at once.  It is somewhat mindless so I can listen to a TedTalk or audio book when working.. quite nice really!  But with that in mind I thought I would share this with you - first published a year ago....

Flower Bombed is DONE!

Flower Bombed is finished! Holy moly this one has been a long but generally happy haul to the finish line!  I will have to check my books but I think I created the top in early January and then it sat around while I decided what to do with it.  Come March I had...

Simon Henry – Cover Quilter of the Week

Another week and another amazing quilter, this could get old if it were not so freaking awesome!  This week's cover quilter is the adorable Simon Henry and I could not be more excited to have him as one of our own!  Simon is no stranger to the world of fabric. Since...

Quilting Drag-Queen Feathers

Everyone has there own style.. and some have style to spare! Yesterday I wrote about the whole feather issue and I promised a bit of footage about how I go about making my personal feathers since like most people's they are distinctive. Mine are big, somewhat...

Feather it the F*ck Up

Oh feathers... so light, so pretty and such a source of controversy when it comes to quilting! Some people love them and some people hate them. For some people no quilt is complete without them and others think they are practically the calling card of the old...
