The days between Christmas and New Years always seem to have a magical quality about them. The closing out of a year and the  excited planning of the new year yet to come ( I already have my new planner.. do you have yours?). On my part it is with great excitement that we will be moving to a new house.. a house that needs a lot of work but that will be our home for the next 20 years at least. I adore feathering a nest and look forward to sharing all my adventures with you as we work our way through many..many projects and possibly not a lot of quilting but we will be creating a brand new studio! So, if you can’t find me look under the bubblewrap and boxes I am sure to be there somewhere!
With so much to do I did want to take the time to thank each of you for being part of BadAss Quilters Society. It is my honor to head up this troop of extraordinary quilters and help bring voice to those in the industry who might not get their due otherwise. I can’t say it has always been easy and there are days when I think about packing it all in. To be told by multiple companies that my demographic does not have enough “voice” for them to pay me for the work I do or to be shunned or dismissed as not of value, Â yeah that stings, but it also lights a fire in me and helps me double down on growing BAQS large enough so they cannot ignore us.
As of this moment there are near 27 THOUSAND people who groove on our mission that quilting is for everyone and even more than that; a just and equitable industry where creatives are paid for their work, and no one is discrimanted against is important. Our last giveaway was seen by more than half-a-million people… Power in numbers baby!
These steadfast beliefs make it even more important that I shout-out to the companies that do work with us. Those who know that diversity matters and makes our quilting community an even more important place and safe haven for many. Of course I have spoken to you of my beloved  Fil-Tec and the amazing people at QT Fabrics.… today I want you to get to know the people at Colourwerx.
Linda and Carl rock my world with the fresh design and a spunky, bright asthetic that can bring a smile on even the most grey day!
I could not be more ticked to be partnering with them to ring in the new year in quilty style. Â We are going to help them celebrate the release of the new Mini Mod series by doing a giveaway here on the blog and over on the BAQS FB page!
Here on the web page you need only leave a comment to win a chance at the cutest new MOD DOG mini kit that makes the most fun pillow! Filled with not only the pattern but also strips of Faffe Fasset fabrics, Essex Linen and even the button of the eye you are ready to sew soon as it gets to your mail box!  Our Winner is AMY DANE!
Keep your eyes open for  yet another giveaway over on the BAQS FB page… it will happen before New Years… so you will not have to wait long!  In the mean time make sure you get in on the Mod-Monster giveaway as well!..
And of course… we are all getting ready for January in which we will be counting down to the giveaway for not 1 but 2 sewing machines!! Â Don’t want to miss that? Â Get any post here at BAQS delivered to you mailbox -just click this link to sign up
Ok.. here is the comment question – Â What is your biggest goal for the new year??? Â – answer below for your chance to win! Winner will be picked on Jan 1st!

I need to get my craft room straightened out, organized, and get rid of the items I no longer need. Then I can get creative and get sewing!
I enjoy making quilts that folks aren’t expecting… so I’m planning to make several stash-buster quilts this year and surprise a few wonderful people!
My 2018 goal is to quilt at least half of the tops I have ready before starting anything else. But we all know that won’t happen, it sure sounds good though.
My 2018 goal is to finish my first quilt top! A long time sewer and fabric collector, I was bitten by the quilting bug. The piecing is harder than it looks! Love your website and FB page!
To make a hand appliqués king-size Christmas quilt.
After much thought I have settled on a few goals for 2018. My biggest goal is to get my long arm business back up and running. 2017 was a rough year for me. I was diagnosed and successfully treated for bladder cancer. My medical issues lead to me closing the studio space I rented and bringing everything home, except for my long arm. It is currently in a friends basement, waiting for me to reassemble it, and reboot my business. While I feel very blessed to have moved past the cancer, I find myself stuck in an odd place mentally and emotionally. It’s time to move on and move forward. I’m more than ready.
Love these give aways. Good luck everyone. For 2018 i hope to have enough material for a route 66 quilt.
We are moving this year, so my biggest goal is to unpack and settle in so I can have my quilting time back!
My biggest goal for the new year…. To finish my husbands quilt his always gets put to the side when I get a wild hair to do something else. I’m so happy he understands I have to have multiple projects going so I don’t get board lol.
I plan to make at least 2 detailed slow projects that I do not feel rushed to complete for someone else’s deadline. I am hoping to focus on curved piecing, ruler quilting and maybe a little applique.
My goal this year, peace in completion.
Just to enjoy my quilting time and to learn to do more with my long arm
My goal is to get out from under this mountain of clutter that has become my studio. I have such ideas and I get jazzed to start, but the process of sorting thru and finding shit takes the winds out of my sails. NO MORE! Everything will have a place. If it no longer brings me joy, I am happy to rehome it to someone who would find joy in the project.
That is my goal.
Organize my sewing room and make at least 3 big quilts from my scrap pile!
My goal is to purchase a long arm by the end of 2018!
My goal for 2018 is to display my quilts finally. I have so many that I’ve finished that are stored away for that day when my rooms are freshly painted and I have time to hang everything. Well this is that year!
To realize and be kind to myself, that I will start more projects than I will finish in 1year. 😊
Clean & organize my sewing room. I will diligently go through my stash giving fabric to a church I know makes quilts for charity.
My storage is overflowing with Itty bitty scraps. I have made many scrap quilts, but need to purge and cannot throw a darn thing away .. maybe this year.
Have a great new year and use good body mechanics when moving all those boxes!!
My goal is to sew 5/7 days.
My biggest goal for 2018 is to make a dent in the pile of UFOs in my sewing room…and clean up and organize said sewing room!
My biggest goal is to practice free-motion quilting more and to incorporate some ruler work into that as well. I love making small wall-art quilts, usually renditions of photos of my darling daughters hiking, biking, and their outdoor activities or their chosen careers. I do one or two large quilts per year,so with the goal of more practice fmq, the additional goals of turning out more quilts by the end of 2018 will be reached. I love being a part of this badass society, as I truly believe we are all great quilt artists that have individual and quirky creative talents. Everyone deserves to be applauded for their quilting endeavors!
I really need to use up more of my stash, and make several more quilts for animal rescue auctions.
Use up some of my stash
To make more politically active quilts.
To reduce the number of UFOs that I have!
I have tops that need quilted so have my list and will start checking them off one by one.
If I have no use for a couple they will go to charity.
Goals are many and I always have them, goals and lists. One of my quilting goals is to make a quilt I designed on paper two years ago. Often what our mind sees is very different once created in fabric.
My quilting goal is to become proficient and comfortable with longarm quilting in hopes of purchasing one. My personal goal is to get healthier: re-lose the 35 lbs I found again this year after letting go of 45. 😕
My goal is to design more patterns for others to enjoy sewing.
My goal is to start a quilting group at my church, eventually supplying quilts for homeless teens in our community.
Finding balance between running my business, my school board work (which includes being on the board of directors for a statewide organization), my family and my art….with an emphasis of finding my BadAss in each…..and actually getting some projects completed LOL
My biggest goal is to finish some (or all,) of the. Any unfinished projects in my closet!
Jenny in Florida
MY goal for 2018 is to organize my fabric (again), quilt up the tops that are done, make a few quilts for the local homeless shelter, and work on my gardens.
My biggest goal for this year, should be met, by the end of February….I need to finish up a quilt for my granddaughter’s school auction in March. She is in kindergarten and I made one for the auction 4 years ago when my grandson was kindergarten. Guess it is a tradition I started and better keep!
Hope we all have a New Year of much happiness and success.
My goal is to finish a few WIPs and to find balance.
My goal for the new year is to stay healthy enough so that I have the energy to sit in my studio every day and make more quilts!
My biggest goal is to quilt some of the flimsies I have hanging in my closet. I had so much fun participating in QALs and challenges but I really need to see them through to the end!
My biggest goal right now is to finish quilting a custom quilt before I take off on vacation in a week and a half.
I always have reorganizing and cleaning out on my list. Scrap quilts will be included this year along with my UFO club list with my guild.
My goal is to finish the Grand’s quilt before her 5th birthday (hand quilting it) & become BadAss at FMQ, so I have the courage to attempt a twin size quilt on my domestic machine.
My biggest goal is to become a better machine-quilter–both free-motion and ruler quilting. I have several things backed up that I need to get done!
My other big goal is to come up with a more user-friendly setup in my new office/quilting studio so that it is a place I really want to be!
My goal is to use up all of the fabric I have here at my dad’s house…except, maybe, for the three bolts of solids!
I just totaled my van 2 days after a 20 day hospital stay on December 20 so I am looking forward to a new van so my nerves will settle down, I am still so weak and nervous I can’t even begin to concentrate on what projects to begin there are so many waiting to be finished.
I made a promise to myself and God, that if my quilt room was spared during the hurricane I would make a quilt a month to donate to the local Pregnancy Crisis Center to help new Mom’s without resources. So far, i’ve given 3 baby quilts with 9 more due in the upcoming year.
My goal is to create handmade items for each of my family members. Some quilts some wearables. Happy quilting to all.
To de-clutter my stash.
I just want to finish this diamond log cabin star quilt that I have been working on for months and months.
My goal this year is to finish the 2 “MY” quilts this year. I have made dozens of quilts, but these are for me, and ones been a work in progress for yrs now.
My goal is to explore the materials and techniques I haven’t tried yet, such as applique and trapunto, quilting with wool batting and double batting. I also want to explore barn quilt trails and combine a road trip with seeing barn quilts, with the thought of starting a barn quilt trail in my home county.
One of my goals is to quilt several of my quilt tops. I have about 25 or so. .. 🙂
My goal is to finish more than I start.
To finish a quilt im making for my son. 2000+ pieces. Yikes!
My biggest goal is to get back quilting. I haven’t been able due to health reasons the last few years.
