A new month means new topics here at BAQS and I am excited to be tackling the topics of binding and batting. Will this be a deep dive?.. nope.. honestly it would take maybe 1/2 a year of posts to really deeply explore the topic and we have just 4 weeks so let’s dig in!

But first I want to extend a big hello to the people at Clover Notions and to the amazing Michelle Umlaf  and invite you to check out her Sewing Machine Artistry site. This is one talented lady who is a total BadAss through and through. As we talk about notions that I will be using from Clover Michelle is the GO-TO site for making them yours!  Please note that sometimes our BadAss zeal overwhelms supply so have patience and your package will get to you soon. While you are over there make sure to get on Michelle’s sewing friends list so you will know when cool new notion show up in her online store not to mention when she will be teaching new classes both virtual and hopefully as the days go by in person!

This week starts us off with looking at binding..with the question, bias or not to bias, that is the question!  This is a topic that has a lot of passionate feelings and some people end up in one camp or  another and for myself I am going to FIRMLY come down in the camp of IT DEPENDS!

Here are some thoughts from Sew-Much Easier

and a few moth thoughts from Village Bound Quilts

The one thing I will say is that there are tools that make the job easier and many of them are well worth having in your arsenal.  One of my favorites is this deceptively simple little gadget from Clover .. The Seams Right. I can’t tell you how often I grab for this little thing when I want to check that I am not too wide or too narrow when making my binding, sewing a seam, placing an embellishment .. . So simple but so damn useful!

I am also pretty crazy about  The Quilt Binding Tool since being very dyslexic no matter how many times I have done it, the angles and  process of making a sexy smooth join escapes me when I don’t have this tool at hand.. if I have it.. all good!

As I do every week I will be live from Facebook Monday morning 10am eastern and I will be talking about more binding tips and tricks… if you missed it no worries.. it will be pinned to the top of the page the whole week!
