COMMENTS ARE NOW CLOSED!!! GOOD LUCK TO ALL AS WE PICK THE WINNERS!
There are a lot of feathers ruffling about in the past few days with closings and changes in the quilt world, as well as challenges as to what it means to be a quilter. So much unnecessary need to align one’s self with just one certain style or dogma, real, imagined or put upon by anybody in the quilting world, and that includes me.
I truly believe that there is room out there for all of us to happily create. I live with the philosophy that the more you have the longer your table should be. We have a lot here at BAQS so our table is endless with room for every quilter who wants to be part.
Of course I have a total soft spot for those who are sassy and more than a little bad-assy but think that BadAssness comes in so many forms with it’s only membership obligation being to live your truth and let others live theirs to the fullest.
I believe in The Democratic Nation of Quilting™ <— pay attention there; it is going to be a thing!
We are the BadAss Quilters Society™ and we believe that quilting is a democratic pursuit and is open to anyone who wants to create. We are not bound by any style, stitchy dogma or rules that set unintentional or restrictive boundaries on creativity.
You are welcome here. One of more than 16 Thousand …. Let the giveaway begin!

Ready???? Let’s do this!

Quilting keeps me surrounded by wonderful, creative friends! I have enjoyed learning new techniques and using great products like Auriful thread makes it easy.
Yes. I’m going to the Mancuso World Show next week, and two retreats this fall in Kennebunk Maine with my guild buddies from the Proper Bostonians! Always a great time with lots of fun.
So far this year I have been to both the AQS Lancaster and Quilt Odyssey Hershey quilt shows. I will be heading out on a stash enhancement trip to Maine soon. I love the inclusion of ALL that is encouraged here at BadAss.
Unfortunately I dont have any quilt shows or retreats on the schedule this year but hopefully next year.
Congratulations on reaching 16K! Such a fun group!! I go to several quilt show a year and most recently attended the AQS Quilt Show in Syracuse, which was amazing! I haven’t attended an overnight retreat but our little group of friends have our own retreats. We bring a dish to share and spend time together supporting and helping each other with our passion… Quilting… Got to love it!! Thank for your great blog, Facebook page and someday, if I’m lucky I will make it to your shop. I have a friend that has family near you and us down there regularly. She loves your shop!!
I’ve never gone on a retreat, but friends from my guild (Santa Rosa Quilt Guild) keep saying I should. They always have a great time up in Tahoe or on the Sonoma coast. I’m very involved with our local quilt show, about 350 quilts shown and great vendors that I should walk away from (step away from the fabric!). The only major show I’ve been to was the Pacific International Quilt Festival in Santa Clara CA … really hard on the legs, but I may go back again this year.
I have been to a quilt show earlier this year and will attend another in the autumn. Retreats in the UK are few, but as I am on my summer break, I am having my very own retreat right now, I am getting some projects finished and planning new ones. I am also teaching myself dress making. Love the Bad Ass quilting attitude, sewing/quilting evolves, let’s not analyse it too much and just enjoy the process. Xxx
Yes, today I am going to The Festival of Quiltshere in the UK with the sole and express purpose of ordering my Handiquilter Avante, to take me to the next level in my wonderful quilting adventure.
No retreats but hope to get to the local quilt shows. We have several in the puget sound.
I have enjoyed all that I’ve seen on your page. Thank.you
I will go to quilt camp in Sept!!!
I’m going to local retreat with OHCraft! I can’t wait! My first trip away from my family since having kids. Three blessed days without my husband or children. Being able to pee in peace! Not having to worry about anyone’s meals except my own.
I don’t have a retreat that I can make it to this year. But I am taking some really awesome classes from some really great long arm teachers!!!!
Yes, I am looking forward to going to PIQF (Pacific International Quilt Festival) in Santa Clara, CA in October 2016.
Earlier this year I went to Empty Spools seminar in Pacific Grove, CA.
That place is like being in heaven!
Sadly no, it looks like this will be the first year I’ve not gotten to a show OR a retreat!
I’ve been to two quilt camps this year …. I am a Judy Niemeyer geek and have been to her retreat center in Kalispell, MT for the past 3 years. I was there for a week in June. Love Judy and all the Quiltworx staff. My local BERNINA dealer Seams Like Home in Anchorage, AK brought Angela Walters up for a weekend of free motion quilting shenanigans – it was a blast and I learnt so much.
Definitely a groupie, and I love that these big names in our quilting world are so easy, approachable, friendly, and willing to share their craft and knowledge with the rest of us. It makes a huge difference when you are being encouraged and complemented by someone of their caliber.
I’ll be going to AQS in Sept in Chattanooga! Looking forward to it.
I am collecting row by row patterns right now, each shop is a show in itself! I’m presently taking quilting classes and can’t wait to start creating.
I will be going to the Sew Virginia Beach retreat next month. I can’t wait! 🙂
Unfortunately, no retreats for me this year. I have been going to some classes locally to expand my skill-set though and I feel good about that. Would really like to go to a retreat at some point though.
Yes, I will be attending the AQS show in Chattanooga and going on a retreat later in September. Love your site and video posts.
My local guild (Vancouver Modern Quilt Guild) has a retreat every October in the Fraser Valley, about an hour from the city. I went last year and I’m so excited to go again this year. I’m pretty new to the guild and happy that I’ll know more people.
I also signed up for QuiltCon in Savannah next February. I don’t know what I’m more excited about, the conference or getting to travel to a place I’ve never been.
Thanks for the contest and for your excellent bad-assery!
I missed the state quilt show this year and the only retreat I have planned is a 3 generation sewing weekend with my mom, sister, and daughter at the end of this month.
Making sure I answered. I would love to go to a local retreat this year and I love classes!
I will be going to the AQS show in Chattanooga in September with my Daughter, Marsha. It is our yearly Mother, Daughter time. We will also be shopping at Spool, see you in September!
Wow! I absolutely love you guys… <3 Just signed up for my subscription today but I've been following you on Facebook for quite a while. I'd like to enter my name into the Give-Away if I may please 🙂
I am drooling over the Aurifil thread collection!
Thanks for the great prizes and Congratulations on reaching 16,000+!
I will be RVing and attending the AQS Show in Chattanooga this September. My two favorite things in one. Love taking my sewing machine and sewing. Get so much done when camping! Also gives me a chance to visit “The Spool” and see my friends again. Don’t get to Chattanooga too often but when I do is always a stop on my list. I have been a Bad Ass Quilter from the beginning! Loved being a part of this group. My favorite thing I remember about Maddie was when she was waiting for the arrival of her Handi Quilter! I bet her UPS man remembers that day! I laughed so hard as could just imagine it. Soon after the BAQS was born! Happy to be a part of the great group!
I’ll be going to a local quilt show in September of this year, and attending a quilt retreat in Feb. of 2017
I would love to attend a retreat or even take a class but the timing never seems to work out.
You ‘betcha! Weekly shop visits to various shops! Several shows a year.
I go on a retreat on an island off the Chesapeake Bay each winter. We are known to go early when snow is predicted so that we are snowed in, not snowed out
I’m planning to go the quilt show in my SoFlo county, but if a retreat came up that was close, I’d love to go to that, too.
I’m hoping to go to a quilt retreat in Montana in September, depends upon if enough people sign up. As for quilt shows, if I don’t get to Montana for that retreat, there is a Utah quilting society show that same week so I might go to that.
Congratulations on 16K.
I attended MQS and I’ll be attending Houston Quilt Festival. I’ve also had the pleasure to teach alongside Dusty Farrell at 2 retreats.
Any quilting retreats or Quilt shows this year? … well, no retreats *this* year (2016). The quilting retreat that I faithfully attend is every February in Phoenix, AZ. *ALWAYS* look forward to getting together with 30 of my very closest computer quilting friends!
As far as quilt shows … I’ve already attend 2 in my area and the year isn’t over! There are 2 coming up in September that I am eagerly anticipating!
I hope to run away with my quilts friends and recharge on atleast 2 retreats in 2017 and will be attending MQX East in April 2017, (teaching a few classes too if my dreams come true). My crew is my cheering squad and my critics they help me grow and learn each day. Anywhere we go we always have a riot!
I am fortunate to have several inspiring quilt friends and with one of us leading (coaxing, nagging…) we frequently take classes and go to shows together (sometimes outside our usual comfort zone). When there is a lull in shows, classes or retreats (Wyoming winters can be tough) we host “mini-retreats” where we lead projects (new patterns or techniques) in our homes.
Congratulations!
Sadly no for this year on the retreat side. I am off to the Brisbane quilt show in October!
I live in central PA, I’ll have a long winter to sew my heart out. No, retreat needed, but I love to find classes.
Congrats. No retreat or show for me this year. I was so happy to visit SPOOLS on my way back from Georgia to Michigan. The visit was fun, inspiring and the reviews were right on.
Congrats on 16K!!! I’m actually commenting from a hotel room in Grand Rapids, Michigan since I spent the day at the AQS show. I haven’t been to a big show in years, but had a great time today, and bought lots of beautiful quilting goodies that I can’t wait to get home and play with! Keep up the good work!
Go to about 6 quilt shows per year; take a couple of classes; and, have not had the opportunity to take time off for a retreat. After I retire I plan to change that!
Unfortunately no…but would love to
I don’t get away much to retreats anymore; miss that terribly! But I frequently host a sewing weekend for my quilt buddy who comes to town several times a year. My supportive family kindly facilitates our intensive sew time and fellowship. Will attend the Emerald Valley Quilt Guild’s show this fall. Always fun to see what folks in our community are doing, it is so inspiring to see actual living quilts!
I went on a retreat last weekend, had a great time, I’m going to the Australian Machine Quilting Festival this month and the Adelaide Festival of Quilts in September, looking forward to both of them.
Our group goes twice a year. Fall and spring…by the lake in the spring and in the mountains in the fall. No place more beautiful than the pacific NW. Congrats on 16K!
I am off to a guild retreat this very weekend. A stay at home retreat though. My aim is to finish a quilt for a prem baby, quilted and bound. The hard part is not getting distracted by others projects, and then adding them to the long mental list of quilts to make. Congrats on reaching 16k!
I don’t have any plans to attend a retreat, at this time, but that could change. Our guild does have sew weekends and we will be signing up in the fall. I can remember when BadAss only had 1000 members. In fact, I wore my hoody just the other day.
Yes!! Going to quilt camp in New Hampshire with my quilting BFF, Gail. We learned to quilt together over 15 years ago. We will be quilt camping with Purple Moose Designs in October!
