COMMENTS ARE NOW CLOSED!!! GOOD LUCK TO ALL AS WE PICK THE WINNERS!
There are a lot of feathers ruffling about in the past few days with closings and changes in the quilt world, as well as challenges as to what it means to be a quilter. So much unnecessary need to align one’s self with just one certain style or dogma, real, imagined or put upon by anybody in the quilting world, and that includes me.
I truly believe that there is room out there for all of us to happily create. I live with the philosophy that the more you have the longer your table should be. We have a lot here at BAQS so our table is endless with room for every quilter who wants to be part.
Of course I have a total soft spot for those who are sassy and more than a little bad-assy but think that BadAssness comes in so many forms with it’s only membership obligation being to live your truth and let others live theirs to the fullest.
I believe in The Democratic Nation of Quilting™ <— pay attention there; it is going to be a thing!
We are the BadAss Quilters Society™ and we believe that quilting is a democratic pursuit and is open to anyone who wants to create. We are not bound by any style, stitchy dogma or rules that set unintentional or restrictive boundaries on creativity.
You are welcome here. One of more than 16 Thousand …. Let the giveaway begin!

Ready???? Let’s do this!

I just got back from quilt retreat! Every year, for the past 8 years, a group of us that actually met online, meet up and spend about a week together. I’ll be at more quilt shows this year, helping some friends with their booth, and taking some classes. (I take too many classes, but they’re so FUN!!!)
I am heading to Sew Virginia Beach in September. My very first retreat and I am beside myself excited!! Ocean front!! Woop woop!! Congrats on 1612! ???
I plan to attend the Mutton Hill quilt show in Akron,OH in October, and thanks to BAQS will submit an entry to the show. Time to take a few risks!
I was fortunate enough to go to a week long quilt retreat in Alabama Aug 1st through the 5th and to visit SPOOL on the way ??
No quilt shows for me the rest of the year but just got back from AK and visited an awesome quilt shop there twice! I brought back a bunch of local inspired fabrics and patterns so now I need to get designing and make my Alaska memory quilt.
I just went to my guild’s summer retreat last month. In October I will be going to IQF Houston as I do every year. I am fortunate to live in Houston (I keep telling myself this in the 100° heat). The 4th Monday of every month, I go to a sew day with my guild.
AQS quilt week is in Grand Rapids this week and I hope to attend. I always love checking out the amazing work and (of course!) shopping. I’m also planning to attend a retreat the week of QuiltCon in Savannah! I can’t wait to hang out with all my quilty peeps, who are all, in my opinion, badass quilters.
I go to about three quilt retreats a year that are run by my guild . They are held in Maine and New Hampshire. They are a perfect way to gather ideas and recharge. I also go to local quilt shows to support other guilds. I have been to Paducah and Houston as well as Austin for Quiltcon. I plan to go to Savannah next year for Quiltcon as well as the Sisters show next summer. I love experiencing these shows to see what the rest of the quilting community is up to !!
Supposed to be getting ready right now, to go to Grand Rapids AQS quilt show! Oh no, second call for breakfast, must go. IT’S GONNA BE A FUN DAY !!!!!
I missed the Vermont Quilt festival this year 🙁
Hopefully I’ll find some others to attend.
I am going to be attending a full day retreat with Brandon Mably, can’t wait! Also, I will be attending the Aurifil event at my LQS. I have a few classes that I am taking in September and October–sew exciting! Every year my friend and I attend at least one major quilt show–this year was the Vermont Quilt show, last year Syracuse and the year before Charlotte; wonder where we will be going in 2017–maybe the Road to California??
We will be going to a local show in October. They have it every 2 years and have everything that a big show has but just on a smaller scale.
Awesome 16k and growing. Yes already enjoyed 2 retreats and looking forward to the Jacksonville quilt show in Sept.. Go BAQ’s..
I went to the Bulloch Hall quilt show in Roswell, GA. I don’t know of any retreats but I try to make all of the shop hops in the area. My soul cries out for a retreat ?
Hey there all BAQ’s! I don’t have any retreats or quilt shows on my agenda for the rest of this year. That said, you never know! ;))))
I have attended the Houston International Quilt Show with my bestie for the last 15 years. ( It’s our Christmas gift to ourselves and getaway from family), then she and I take in the Dallas Quilt Show. We did the Patchwork Express Tour this year. I attend the friday night sewing nights out at my LQS and sewing night out at our local Brother dealer.
Very excited about our Guild’s upcoming quilting retreat in a couple of months. We have reserved a new location, while still keeping it affordable and have some major upgrades over our previous location, including elevators,!!! Lol.
I plan to go to the Mid-Atlantic Quilt show in Hampton, VA in February, and a couple other local shows in eastern NC.
Both quilt shows and retreats keep me motivated and inspired!?
We will be going on our semi-annual quilt retreat weekend. Only rule, no rotary after wine. And lots of fun.
None planned but I usually manage a few local shows every year. None of the “major” events. Maybe a sewing retreat with my peeps in the KCmqg but again none of the big name sewing retreats! We need a BadAss quilting cruise though. Wouldn’t that be an experience ?
Well. I’ve already been on one quilting retreat and to two quilt shows so far this year. Happily, there will be at least one more large show (PIQF) and possibly the Mancuso Palm Springs show as well (it could happen). And my Squad and I are planning our fall retreat as I write. We like a nice beach house. I’m blessed to be part of a supportive quilting community. ❤️
Hello , as no one has said you can’t enter from outside USA I will say my favourite retreat is West Manse in the North of Scotland run by Chris and Pete. Not been able to get this year but hoping to go next. Also earlier in year been to festival of quilts just outside Edinburgh where there was some amazing quilts on show.
I attended a Long arm and Pro Stitcher class in June. Going to an event the end of August!
Hi, from South Wales(uk). I would love to have the time to retreat, but as a newbee quilter learning and practicing at home is taking all my time. A retreat is on my agenda for next year hopefully, But where????
Unfortunately I missed the area quilt show this year but hope to go next year.
I have already attended the Paducah show. And then Shipshewana School House. Sept I am taking some LA classes and MQX in October.
Funny that this is the topic —-today I was told there is a Quilt Expo going on in Portland in September same time as my LQS has a mini retreat. Choices to be made here —I also have a wedding going on that same weekend … So, Quilt Show or retreat or wedding –I think the retreat is calling my name as I have several projects that are in the design phase at the moment and I’d like to get them into reality from thin air before Christmas. Our mini-retreats are two-day events —come early, stay late but home to your own bed for the night then back the next morning. Usually someone has a class on the first day, but often it is just a hey what are you working on this is my project type conversation. We try out new ideas and share our experiences —great bonding time as well as usually guarantees a busy time at the shop as people stop in to shop and then come see what we are all working on.
Hello from Scotland,
I do hope we can win even if we live outside of USA. I love all your video’s and ideas. ?
No retreats but our local quilt show is a must!
I’d love to do a retreat but don’t have the time this year. Planning to go to NW Quilters Show in Portland in September. Thanks for the giveaway.
I’m not sure if I will be going to any quilt shows or retreats. Still trying to climb out of the hole left by nearly 4 years of unemployment. Now I have 3 jobs & work almost every day. Just starting to get my MOJO back and boy does it feel good!
Just started quilting-Had not planned to attend a show this year – but would like to attend one next year- love seeing all the creativity on line – would love to see it up close and personal
I love this Amazing giveaway. I feel like I go to mini retreats every week. I spend one day a week with amazing quilters working on our UFO’s, new projects. I have also seen some Amazing quilts at AQS, I went to Paducah, but can’t wait to come to the final year at Chattanooga. I can’t wait to stop at Spool.
My sister hosts a quilt retreat for a group of guys & gals in the northeast. She calls it the HoeDown. Quilters from PA, NJ, ME, NH & VA will gather for 4 days of sewing and sharing. It is a wonderful time and the only chance we have to see each other every year. This will be #10. I will make the next show in Lancaster PA but that is not until 2017.
I just got back from an epic quilting road trip (during which I got to stop at Spool and get some BQS swag!!) so that’s it for me this year. I spent too much money to go to anything else!!
Headed to the Ole Man River Quiltfest next week in Vicksburg MS and taking one class NY Beauty. Might go to AQS show in Chattanooga but for just one day. (And a trip to Spools). I would love to win the fabulous Aurifil thread.
Maybe, but not until Winter. In the recent past I attended everything I could get to. My head is spinning with a lot of unfinished projects and things now just need to settle and let me get caught up.
I am looking forward to the Indy Modern Quilt guilds annual retreat in February. A really fun and encouraging bunch or women. We just finished doing a show in a local park to share our work.
Great year for quilt shows for me. I travel with my dad every winter heading south to get out of the New England snow! We happened to be in Daytona when AQS held their first show there. Also was visiting relatives in Kodak, TN when Pigeon Forge was holding their annual MountainFest quilt show. I was home by April when a small quilt group I belong to, The Hot Stitchin’ Mamas, had our annual retreat in New Hampshire. And my quilting guild, Narragansett Bay Quilters of Rhode Island, held our show that we have every two years. Overall, a very good year so far!!
My best friend hosts a retreat in NJ in November. I missed most of it last year because the boss denied my vacation request 6 months before that week – probably to show me who was boss. Guess I showed him when I quit that job for one that pays more money, and is closer to home and where the boss knows what is important to me!
I plan on attending the fall quilt show in Tulsa OK.
Quilt show in October. Have already been to 1 other show! Very inspiring!!
Not only am I going to a quilt show in November, but I’m helping organize it! The Australian Modern Quilt Show to be held in Sydney Australia on 26 & 27 November at Glebe Town Hall. If you’re in town, come on down!!
Yay for Badassery! I help organize a monthly retreat for my guild chapter, so yes, I will be gratefully retreating! I will also be exhibiting (at Mancuso Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival) a yet-to-be created “celebration” quilt to honor my late in-laws meeting when she was a just a schoolgirl and he was a very young sailor looking for a pen pal. This year would have been their 60th anniversary.
If the planets align I will be attending the International Quilt Festival this November. Was lucky enough to attend a couple years ago and can’t wait to be amazed again?
I am going to the Houston Quilt Show. My sister and I go together as our absolute sister’s event. This will be our 13th year. This year is special because I was invited to enter a doll in the In Celebration of the Doll exhibit. I was quite honored.
I have been to 3 retreats this year (2 in Dickson, TN & 1 in Sevierville, TN) & 2 quilts shows (Paducah & Chattanooga in September)!
I found Spool & the Badass Quilters Society when I went to the Chattanooga quilt show in 2014!
I hope to be going to the quilt show in Houston this fall.
I will be attending the International Quilt Festival in Houston in November. I volunteer at the Learn to Quilt booth, I marvel at the quilts on display and I do a little shopping.
I plan on making time this year to take at least 2 classes. If there is a retreat local I would love to go to one. As a matter of fact I am going to do o e at my house this weekend. Anyone is welcome! Go sew all those quilt kits I got from Spool!!
Just went to Quilters Affair in Sisters, Oregon. Will also be going there in 2017 along with QuiltCon in February.
