COMMENTS ARE NOW CLOSED!!! GOOD LUCK TO ALL AS WE PICK THE WINNERS!
There are a lot of feathers ruffling about in the past few days with closings and changes in the quilt world, as well as challenges as to what it means to be a quilter. So much unnecessary need to align one’s self with just one certain style or dogma, real, imagined or put upon by anybody in the quilting world, and that includes me.
I truly believe that there is room out there for all of us to happily create. I live with the philosophy that the more you have the longer your table should be. We have a lot here at BAQS so our table is endless with room for every quilter who wants to be part.
Of course I have a total soft spot for those who are sassy and more than a little bad-assy but think that BadAssness comes in so many forms with it’s only membership obligation being to live your truth and let others live theirs to the fullest.
I believe in The Democratic Nation of Quilting™ <— pay attention there; it is going to be a thing!
We are the BadAss Quilters Society™ and we believe that quilting is a democratic pursuit and is open to anyone who wants to create. We are not bound by any style, stitchy dogma or rules that set unintentional or restrictive boundaries on creativity.

As i sit on a pillar at yet another hotel waiting for my glorious week off for mother-daughter week in Chattanooga (aka quilt week in Chattanooga) i am thinking what my next bad ass project will be. Its been a long but short year. (Seriously were did July go to). Hopefully inspiration will come but if not i will finish some of my other kooky projects that wait for me at home.
I’ll be going to a retreat and taking my mom with me. We get so much done away from family and hanging out with friends. 🙂
I have a day retreat next Tuesday then a long-awaited retreat at Surfside Beach in September. the last time I was there was with my mom just before she got sick from which she never recovered.
In October, I will be going to Houston Festival then a DMQG retreat in November. Jam-packed couple of months for sure.
I am going to Madison Wisconsin in September. It is a nice size show and the town is lovely. The BEST part is meeting my quilting friends there. I moved a couple of years ago and we try to get together at one show a year!
I will be going to AQS in Chattanooga and visiting your store for the first time! My friends and I are also heading to the Houston Quilt Festival in November.
I have a trade off with my husband. I go to old tractor shows with him, he takes me to the quilt stores and shows in our path. I live in the sticks so its hard to get out to retreats. I do try to get to the HMQS every year or so.
Congratulations again on getting 16K. As for what will I be attending this year. Well I’ll be at most quilt shows around the Arkansas area. Then starting Tuesday I will be doing row by row from Arkansas all the way to North Dakota. I plan on stopping at as many shops as possible.
No retreats scheduled but shows are ! Our local guild show and the Orignal Sewing and Quilt show in October in Schaumburg Il.
Keep calm and BadAss on….
Right now life has gotten out of control and I hope to get to do more than walk into my sewing studio more than to turn the light on and dream! I will be at my sisters in a couple of weeks and we will sew together, then home and hope to sew my heart out in ?September!
This is So, so pure AWESOMENESS!!
Current plans for retreats? One scheduled for the end of Sept but mini day-treats throughout each month.
All the swag is so awesome! Thank you, so much, sponsors!
I’ve never been on a retreat, but would love to some day. I will be going to a couple of local quilt shows this fall. Quilts by the Lake in Oxford, AL and the Blount County Quilters Guild show in Oneonta, AL. I’m hoping to make it to the show in Chattanooga.
Our group of 20 have been doing a winter quilt retreat at a resort in WI, every March for the past 11 years. Except for the year my granddaughter was 6 weeks old, my daughter attends with me. Not only is this wonderful bonding time for us, we have made life long friends doing what we love. We’ve even been snowed in! Even after sewing, laughing, eating for 4 days, no one wants to leave…
I am going to Ricky Tims conference in the Chicago area in October. I have already went to a local quilt show in April in Indiana.
As I am not close enough to go to a retreat planned by you, there are a couple shows that I hope to make it to…either in Michigan or Iowa. Thanks for the opportunity to win. It was fabulous meeting you yesterday!
I will be going to a weekend quilting retreat with my guild, Rivertown Quilter’s. The first full week of September, I will help my guild man a QOV booth at the Southwest IN Quilt Expo in Rising Sun Indiana. Finally in November I will meet with 6 of my quilt buddies in Newark Oh at the Newkirk House Retreat Center. Lots of fun coming up!
Sadly, I am not going to make it to any shows or retreats this year. I’ll invest in myself with some online learning instead.
Just back from Ireland where I attended several quilt shows and a fabulous evening of show and share with the Sheephaven Quilt Guild and the Thimbleberries Quilt Guild in Donegal. In September I’m heading to the European Patchwork Meeting in Alsace Region of France and The Scottish Quilt Championships in Edinburgh, Scotland. In October it’s off to the Houston International Quilt Show and in November I’m doing a retreat with some quilting buddies.
No retreat, but I am looking forward to the International Quilt Festival in Houston. Signed up for 3 classes already! Come on Fall!
No retreats planned, but I may be going to the quilt show in Pennsylvania in September. It’s a great show, & I love to go when possible.
I will have four quilts hanging in our guild show September 9-11, here in Springfield, MO! I will be attending quite a few local shows. Nothing big this year. Family obligations and all?
I’ll see the quilts at the Indiana State Fair if it’s not raining tomorrow. I need a wheelchair these days, so I probably won’t attend any of the major shows. I sure would love to, though. I miss meeting my friends every year at Paducah!
We had a big move to a new state this year so my wallet and I are not planning on going to any retreats or big shows. If I hear of a local show or two I’ll go to those!
I will be going to the AQS Show in Chattanooga and Quiltcon next year. Our quilt has one retreat a year, but that will be in early 2017 too. Proud to be a Badass Quilter.
So excited to be attending my first ever quilt retreat this year in October! This retreat is organized by a group from 1 of the 3 local guilds to which I belong. I know I’ll pack too much, have a blast and get a boatload done while I am there. Working full-time provides only limited stretches of extended quilting time on long weekends and midweek holidays. I am beside myself looking forward to this opportunity. October simply can’t get here fast enough!
No quilt shows for me – but I will be teaching my first quilt class at my LQS! I am so excited!
Can’t wait till November for my guild’s four day retreat! Sew! Sew! Sew!
I will not be going on any retreats or shows this year because I am waiting for an organ transplant. But I have my sewing sisters to keep me company!
I have already attended a quilt show this year and I will attend any others within driving distance. I need to draw some quilting events to where I live because it’s at least an hour drive to any type of show or retreat. So I just retreat to my own sewing room.
I recently attended the Hershey quilt show and will also be attending the show in Oaks, PA in September. And if there are any local guild shows this fall, I might be checking them out too. I also have the opportunity to attend a retreat at the end of October.
I made it to Spring Quilt Market, and I hope to get to Fall Market in Houston, too. AQS is hosting a show for my birthday in Chattanooga (of course it’s for me!). Then, if I’m a very lucky girl, I’ll join the finest group of stitchy friends imaginable on the Oregon Coast for a week of creativity that’s always a joy.
I’m organizing one for my sewing guild for next month. This will be my second retreat of the year. Also hoping to do a “second annual” with my boss/friend-a serious Bad Ass Quilter-and another friend who is a pattern designer! LOVE retreats.
I will not be going to a retreat or quilt show this year. There are none in my immediate area. I don’t like to travel a lot. I will be taking a workshop though. Still do,guilds every month.
I am going to two retreats in the 4th quarter of this year. The first is a retreat in November with Happy Apple Quilt a Shop and the second is in December with Once Upon a Quilt Shop. I love retreats and am looking forward to these opportunities.
There are 5 of us who meet 2 or 3 times a year, depending on our schedules, and sew until we drop. We rotate houses, arrive with copious amounts of fabric, designs, chatter and food, and sew n sew n sew. And laugh. And catch up. And just generally get our sanity back. Then we all go home and plan for the next one. Love it 🙂
I’ll not be attending any this year but I am hoping to go to either AQS Paducah or The first African American Quilt Conf. in Lawrenceville KS next year.
Going to AQS in Chattanooga. Plan to attend several wool rug hook in’s before the end of year.
I will be going to the Maple Ridge Quilt Guild’s quilt show on September 9. I am a newly retired person and an even more newbie quilter, but am having such a great time with it, i decided I wanted to join a quilters guild. And this will be the first step.
Hi Maddie,
Spring Retreat with my guild in the spring usually a weekend Fri pm to Sunday lots of fun, quilting , laughs, prizes and WIPS ticked off. A cool Libs Elliot workshop in November…
Love the BadAss quilters Society. I am always following your videos…
Lori
(from Nova Scotia)
I attended and took classes at MQX east and planning to take a fabric dying class in October. My Wednesday quilting group is planning a field trip to a different quilt shop every 6 weeks. Wish Spool was closer!!! Congrats on your 1600+ members!
Just back from a retreat where I was retreat mama, organising all the food and gifts for the 12 of us on retreat. I have two quilt shows coming up, the Queensland quilters quilt show, which is our state guild one in October, and the third Australian modern quilt show in Sydney in November.
Congratulations!!!
I wish on the retreats and quilt shows. But I will be doing some shop hopping this fall, plus guild every month, and those are kinda quilt shows. Inspiration is everywhere!! 🙂
A friend and I are hitting a cluster of quilt shows this weekend in the Manitoba Interlake then taking a class in Dryden Ontario with Jennie Doan in October. Who oho.
I look forward to the Pacific International Quilt show every year. So many quilts from all around the world! And terrific vendors.
One of my LQS’s has a couple 12 hour retreats throughout the year. I will most likely attend the next one coming up. I am also planning to attend AQS in Chattanooga so I can stop by SPOOL!
No retreat for me. I’m staying home and enjoying being a BAQ. I will go to our local quilt show though. Quilting is a blessing to me. Congratulations on the 1600!
I will be dreaming of a quilt retreat, but alas young kids so I cannot attend any this year. I will go to the local quilt shows in my area, but most are small. This is the year I can finally get back into the swing of my quilting, as I have been on a young kid induced break!
I will be going to the Chattanooga, TN quilt show for the 3rd year in a row. It’s great for someone in a wheelchair (which I am) to be able to view all the prize winning quilts as well as shop for new supplies!
I’m a very newbie quilter and am just beginning to spread my wings. I would love to go to a retreat, I just haven’t found the right one yet. As for a show, I see from another comment that there is one in Chattanooga in September. So, maybe for my 63rd birthday in September I will treat myself to my first quilt show! Never too old to start, right?
I am hosting a quilt retreat in September and going to AQS in Chattanooga in September.
I’ll be going to the Pennsylvania Quilt Extravaganza in September, to a guild retreat in October, and I know both will be fun!
Love the assortment of prizes! All are winners.
