COMMENTS ARE NOW CLOSED!!! GOOD LUCK TO ALL AS WE PICK THE WINNERS!
There are a lot of feathers ruffling about in the past few days with closings and changes in the quilt world, as well as challenges as to what it means to be a quilter. So much unnecessary need to align one’s self with just one certain style or dogma, real, imagined or put upon by anybody in the quilting world, and that includes me.
I truly believe that there is room out there for all of us to happily create. I live with the philosophy that the more you have the longer your table should be. We have a lot here at BAQS so our table is endless with room for every quilter who wants to be part.
Of course I have a total soft spot for those who are sassy and more than a little bad-assy but think that BadAssness comes in so many forms with it’s only membership obligation being to live your truth and let others live theirs to the fullest.
I believe in The Democratic Nation of Quilting™ <— pay attention there; it is going to be a thing!
We are the BadAss Quilters Society™ and we believe that quilting is a democratic pursuit and is open to anyone who wants to create. We are not bound by any style, stitchy dogma or rules that set unintentional or restrictive boundaries on creativity.

Will be hosting a retreat with a few close friends and a lot of wine over a long weekend this winter
Went to MQXEast this spring and just returned from AQS in Syracuse which I attended with my daughter (another BAQS member!). I help a friend organixe a retreat right after New Years Day so we can all just relax and sew after the holidays…looking forward to 2017!
Yes I will be attending the AQS in Chattanooga, and Algood, TN Quilt Festival. I did go to a retreat in May of this year at Becky’s Barn in Jamestown,TN. Love the quilting life.
I am going to a Sewing/Quilt show in Fredricksburg, VA in September!
Sadly, no I will not be going to any quilting retreats, workshops or events of any kind…but on the positive side my life is one big quilting retreat thanks to my own patron of the art, my husband who knows that for me time quilting is as essential to my wellbeing as food and shelter.
I’ve never been to a retreat but I try to hit quilt shows when I’m able. The next one I hope to attend will be sewing and quilting expo in Fredericksburg, VA at the end of September. It’s always my hope to find Halloween goodies!
There’s a great show of historic quilts at the Indiana State Museum, now through October. And a quilt retreat is on my bucket list!
Not going to Emprty Spools or Road to California in 2017, but I do have an incredible opportunity to attend the Tokyo Quilt Show in January and I’m going!
I have 5 of the best friends ever! We meet once a month at a community center, hauling machines, lights, irons and boards, design walls. We all have different tastes in quilting. We also cross-stitch, needlepoint and one sometimes crochets. No judgements here. Everyone is loving, giving, supportive and helpful. One loves very modern quilts, one loves very traditional and they are best friends! 4 of us were able to visit your shop during AQS week a couple of years back. Most favorite shop ever! I fell in love with the idea of BAQS and purchased all kinds of the merchandise and some pretty awesome material. Our group, Friends With Scissors, is currently planning a retreat in November to enjoy a whole weekend of love, laughter and lots of needlework! We do this every year and love it!! Thanks for listening!!
I don’t have any firm plans to attend any shows or retreats this year, but I hope to be back in Tennessee for the AQS show in Chattanooga.
I will be going to Covenent Pines Quilt Retreat in McGregor MN in November with a friend. I went to one there in the spring and really enjoyed it. I plan on using some of my stash!
Sadly no quilt retreats for me. With three small kids at home I can’t get away. But I will be going to some quilt shows this year, the Victoria guild quilt show and another one on Vancouver island. I love seeing all those beauties in person.
Planning to attend the AQS show in Chattanooga! I absolutely love Chattanooga and I’m so glad it’s only two hours away!
There isn’t a lot that’s local to me, so I just had my own private quilt retreat. 4 days of sewing and not being responsible for anyone other than my dog. Hubby is super supportive and encouraging, and didn’t whine at all. ?
As far as quilt shows, there’s a couple I’m angling to go to-the Napa Valley Quilter’s quilt show in September, and PIQF in October.
Thank you so much for having this giveaway, and for being such a badass. ?
First, congratulations on 16000!!! I will be attending my first QuiltCon in Savannah next year & I am volunteering at AQS in Chattanooga next week. Always looking for more opportunities to explore this new obsession.
My guild, the VTMQG is having a retreat this fall which I am attending. It’s a pretty badass group–I can’t wait! I’m also organizing our special exhibit of modern quilts at the local big traditional guild’s show this year. So happy that we are 16k strong!
I will be attending, and volunteering at the AQS Des Moines show in October and attending a retreat with the Iowa Quilters Guild in Nivember.
The world of quilting carries a big umbrella and there is room for all of us.
I’ll be going to the show in Houston and some local guild shows in northeast Ohio. Congrats on the big 16000!! Badass girls have to stick together!!!!
No! 🙁 I really wish I was, though. I will be teaching 2 classes – design and sew your own tote and a sewing for babies class, though. Maybe when business picks up (fingers crossed!)
Attending our semi-annual retreat in November with my bestie quilting girls and entering several quilts in my guild show in October, but REALLY excited to go to Road to California in January and taking four classes. I am working hard to improve my custom quilting on my long arm and I have a collection of quilt tops that will help me do that. I just quilt my own tops and charity quilts and last year I quilted over 30 quilts!
No retreat specifically. I am hosting an occasional social at my house for male quilters in the Pacific NorthWest. I’m calling us “The Feed Dogs”.
Will attend the quilt show in Chattanooga. So far, I will retreat to my living room to quilt solo, but would love to g to a retreat someday.
I’ve recently relocated to Tampa FL so I have no plans for a retreat yet. I’m still learning my way and finding new quilt sops and sewing stores. I always attended at least one sewing event each year and intend to continue that plan during retirement.
My friend and I have our own sewing retreats a couple of times a month at her house. She has a nice sewing studio with plenty of room for three people and we have a blast! Plus she has a very sweet little dog named Charlie who comes in to keep us company!
Started the year with guild classes. Then Modern Quilt show in February. Guild retreat was June. Have a retreat with friends this weekend. Pacific International Quilt show in October. Finally, a weekend retreat in December. Also have monthly late night sewing with friends. Love being retired!
This is so fun – thank you! I just attended Bayberry Quilters show on the Cape, and am preparing for my guilds 20th anniversary show 9/17-9/18. We are Marathon Quilters in Hopkinton, MA. Went to my first MSQC retreat last year – that will be hard to beat, but our guild typically does a retreat in NH each year in a location that allows us to visit Pine Tree Quilts and Quilted Threads. Good luck to all!
Not an actual “retreat” but a couple of friends at an annual sewing trip to the cottage. Went to a show I. Minoqua, Wi last weekend.
I will be attending a retreat at Needle in a Haystack in April. I just went to the Hershey quilt show and to AQS in Syracuse. I am also going to a retreat that my quilt club is having in September at a hotel. It would be nicer if I didn’t have to work for a living and could just quilt weekly.
Yes I will be going to the Houston International Quilt show the end of October. It is a quilters dream! I love all of the fabric, new notions and patterns.
I will be going to the Santa Clara quilt show in Oct for the first time. I lived in Santa Clara 40 years ago so it will be quite a culture shock to see the changes!
I’ll be going to our local show here in Ft Lauderdale next spring. The best retreat I can think of is right in my sewing room!
My travel schedule (self-employed meeting planner) has kept me from attending most of my usual expos this year. So instead I have been attending local one day sewing retreats every month and taking 3-day road trips with sewing friends. I will attend Quilt Expo in Madison WI in September. I used to go to the expos to shop. Now it’s to see what’s new, but mainly to socialize and be inspired by sewing friends, old and new. I save my shopping for my local shops.
Headed to Asheville NC the first of October –cool crisp weather and quilts is the perfect combo!
This year is our guild’s show year. The Museum Quilt Guild has their show in October and of course, I love to spend the 2 days volunteering and shopping the vendors. We also have a 4 day retreat in February and numerous classes each year. Love my guild!
Congratulations on reaching the 16,000 followers mark. I know you must strike a resounding chord in a lot of quilters in blogland. I truly believe that there is room at the table for all quilters and all aesthetics, with no labels. If not, then I think we should bring our tables with us & set them up right next to those with the labels. I consider myself an eclectic quilter and I am bringing my table with me.
No retreats this year but I am certainly looking at some for 2017. I go to the AQS quilt show in Paducah KY yearly and a local large show yearly. I want to try a quilt retreat at least once for the experience. And I am planning to attend the Sisters Oregon quilt show next year for the experience.

Going to the AQS show in Chattanooga, TN this year.
Congratulations on hitting the 16000 mark! And thank you for sharing the fun with us all. I will get to Road to California this and maybe my friends and I will be able to pull off a small mini retreat for the 5 of us! we are trying to make it happen right after Christmas when we all need a bit of ‘ me’ time!
Yes I will be going to Quilt Con and the AQS Chattanooga show. Love seeing new ideas and things in the quilting world.
Love your shop!!! I will be going to AQS in Chatt.
I’m looking forward to the last AQS Chattanooga show this September.
I plan on going to as many shows as I can, it just depends on if they are in my path as I travel across our great nation. Would love to attend a retreat, but have no plans set in stone yet. I like to play, pet my fabric and sew in my camper as I travel. Love the live and let live attitude.
I normally go to the AQS Chattanooga show! But due to family illness I cannot attend this year. Will so miss seeing Maddie and Flaun at Spool!! Going to Spool is always the highlight of my trip!! Quilting tops is the goal this year so I will have my own mini retreats at home!!
I don’t have any show attendance or retreats on my calendar at the moment, but I am going on an inspiration trip later in the year.
Hooray for BAQS hitting and surpassing the 16K mark.
LOVE quilting retreats and quilt shows! I went to APQS in Paducah this past April, a retreat in Missouri, hosted 2 retreats after my house, and will be attending with more retreats this fall (Sept and Oct). Retreats are an awesome way to reunite with friends, make new friends and you see so many neat quilting techniques.
I will be headed to 2 quilt shows soon, one in San Diego and one in Portland Oregon. I LOVE quilt shows.
I went to the Annapolis Quilt Guild Show in June, actually white gloved for a couple hours, sold raffle tickets, manned the silent auction table too, and of course supported the vendors. I hope to do a quilt retreat in October.
At a minimum, I plan to attend the quilt show in Chatanooga! And then who knows! Since I have just retired, I don’t have to plan too far ahead. I do know I am spending loads of time in my sewing room
I am going to a retreat in October with a friend who lives 600 km away. She is the only person I will know there, so I will be meeting a bunch of new-to-me quilters. Then I will be back for two days before going to a retreat closer to home with a group of good friends – nine of us – who have been quilting and traveling together for a long time. Two totally different experiences in the space of a week!
Going to QuiltCon East in Savannah with three CT quilting friends — so excited!!!
I just returned from an annual quilt retreat with my sisters in Maryland. It’s 4 days of non-stop quilting, great food and drink, and fellowship. I plan to attend the Int’l quilt show in Houston in the Fall.
