COMMENTS ARE NOW CLOSED!!! GOOD LUCK TO ALL AS WE PICK THE WINNERS!
There are a lot of feathers ruffling about in the past few days with closings and changes in the quilt world, as well as challenges as to what it means to be a quilter. So much unnecessary need to align one’s self with just one certain style or dogma, real, imagined or put upon by anybody in the quilting world, and that includes me.
I truly believe that there is room out there for all of us to happily create. I live with the philosophy that the more you have the longer your table should be. We have a lot here at BAQS so our table is endless with room for every quilter who wants to be part.
Of course I have a total soft spot for those who are sassy and more than a little bad-assy but think that BadAssness comes in so many forms with it’s only membership obligation being to live your truth and let others live theirs to the fullest.
I believe in The Democratic Nation of Quilting™ <— pay attention there; it is going to be a thing!
We are the BadAss Quilters Society™ and we believe that quilting is a democratic pursuit and is open to anyone who wants to create. We are not bound by any style, stitchy dogma or rules that set unintentional or restrictive boundaries on creativity.
You are welcome here. One of more than 16 Thousand …. Let the giveaway begin!
Today we begin our celebration of 16 Thousand members of BAQS. We thank our sponsors for their endless support and we encourage those who are leaving a comment to enter the giveaway to also click some of the sponsor links and take the time to say thank you to them!

Ready???? Let’s do this!

No retreats but maybe a local show if possible.
I have been to several quilt retreats this year but don’t plan on any more until next year (2017). I can’t wait!!!
Yes I am excited to be going to my first ever overnight retreat with the #vancouvermqg.
Went to the show in Pigeon Forge this past March!!
Excited for my retreat with all of Those Damn Quilters and friends in two weeks!!! We meet up and stay at Sew Sweet Quilt Shop and retreat center in Brunswick, Mo. I also host a retreat at my house in March. Lots of sewing, laughing, gabbing, eating and some drinking involved.
I will be going to a quilt show in September. It’s called Quilting on the Bayfront, and it’s in Erie, PA. They have great speakers and lots of vendors! Unfortunately I will only be shopping this year and won’t see any lectures. Jenny Doan is the featured speaker and I love her!
I live in Germany where quilt shows are few and far between. Add to the mix 2 young kids, a part-time job, volunteering and two a cappella groups, I’m kinda busy. I wish the local guild was open to accepting new members; since they’re not, I’ve come to the conclusion that I wouldn’t have fit in anyway. I quilt when I want, how I want and where I want, and don’t care what others think. Love this group!
I always try to get to the Atlanta Sewing & Quilting Expo, but I’ve missed it this year – the timing just didn’t work like usual. Other than a couple of quilt/sewing classes, this might be the first year in ages that I don’t make it to a single show.
I’m going to the Mutton Quilt Show in Akron, OH with some quilting friends. This will be our first visit!
Sadly no quilt shows this year for me. The timing just didn’t work.
I am not a retreat person, unless hoping for a quiet self indulgent weekend at home counts.
I hope to attend some local quilt shows & I go to the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum every time they change the exhibit (sometimes I go multiple times!). I’m contemplating going to a retreat this year–have to see how the budget pans out…
I try to make it to any local quilt shows. I love to see all the great talent locally. Will travel for the Asheville quilt show. Last year our guild chartered a bus so it was great fun.
My guild’s semi-annual “in-town” retreat is at the end of August – a weekend full of fun and friends and sewing and still sleeping in our own beds! It’s on my birthday, too…great gift for me!
Would love to go, but have to take care of my husband. Maybe some day…
I am unable to go to quilt shows or events because I am disabled. I enjoy the online lessons available and watch something daily. Jenny Doan and Quilt in a Day are favorites because I have an AccuQuilt and also enjoy using pre it’s.
No quilt shows scheduled right now. Perhaps I will be able to checkout a few this winter while in Florida.
I’m always up for a quilting retreat! Hampton, VA and Houston, TX this year!
Not this year but sometime within the next two years I want to go to One.
I will be enjoying early November at the International Quilt Festival in Houston, Texas. I attended in 2000 as a beginning quilter and in 2015 as a confident fiber artist, and left each time with new skills and a gazillion ideas for new projects.
I haven’t heard of any in my area yet so I’m not sure. BUT… Assuming there is one… I’m going
I do not plan to attend any in 2016, but I do plan to attend the MQG’s Quilt Con in Savannah, GA in Feb 2017!!
No plans for a retreat yet this year – but I’m up for anything!!
I love retreats! Going to one with nine friends next month. It is a beautiful house made into a quilting retreat thst sleeps 10 people that you rent. Best part? It is next door to one of the best quilt shops- Millers Dry Goods in Charm, Ohio. Everyone brings food and we have a great weekend. Because we are all Ohio State Buckeyes fans, Saturday usually includes the game along with terrific game food and drinks. I go to other retreats throughout the tear, but this one is my favorite!
Looking forward to attending to “Sew Me St Louis”, a quilting retreat with the St Louis Modern Quilt Guild in October.
I hope to attend a quilt retreat in North Carolina in the spring. It’s been too long since my schedule flexed enough to participate. Walking in to SPOOL is such a glorious “retreat” from all that’s mundane, however, that I haven’t felt too deprived. 🙂
Congrats on passing the 16,000 mark!
You bet! Waiting for Chicago…
Yes! I’ve already attended the craft and quilt fair in Sydney meeting up with my virtual quilting buddies from all over oz, for the first time IRL! And we are planning another retreat together ?
I will be going to QuiltCon in Savannah in February. I was very lucky to get into several classes there.
Going to The Paradise village Quilters Zretreat in the Fall. It is a local group I belong to who decided we would put on our own retreat. It will be our 2nd.
No quilt shows. My “quilting retreat” is my family vacation at the beach (parents, brother’s family, no kids of my own). I am not a beach person, so while everyone is at the beach, I sit in front of big picture window and quilt. I work on scrap quilts, so I don’t have to think too much, or lay out my blocks. Then at the end of the beach day, I pack up, and enjoy the evening festivities with my family!
The International Quilt Festival in Rosemont, Chicago rocked in April and A Craftin’ by the Creek retreat in Rockdale WI a few weeks ago was the best! Love quilting and the friendships and creative collaborating even better!
Quilt Expo on 9/9 in Madison WI
I usually go to a couple of quilt shows a year (local and national). I also go to two to three quilt retreats with a close group of friends.
Yaye!! I quilt with several very awesome bad ass quilters!! Congrats on all your 16,000!!!
No retreats and trying to go to some smaller local area quilt shows….none of the biggies…..bucket list those.
I am going to Quilting B & More’s Retreat this Sept. 30 to Oct 2 here on beautiful Prince Edward Island Canada. Can’t wait- such FUN!
I was at QuiltCon West in February 2016 and will be headed to Savannah for QuiltCon East in 2017. Happy to be able to do one big show a year!
Congrats on the milestone. I’m probably going to a local quilt show, but not a retreat.
I surely hope so! I’ve just moved to a new city, and I’m betting that quilty friends are out there, waiting to be found. Going to shows and retreats with newly-met friends will be a great way to connect!
Hoping, hoping, hoping to attend one. Fingers crossed!
Yes I will go to both a retreat and quilt show. I get so many ideas when I do.
There’s a sewing and quilt expo in Fredericksburg Virginia in late September and I’m planning to attend. Hoping to take a class. Thanks to all the sponsors for this giveaway.
A group of friends and I held our own retreat in April. It was a blast! Planning one for the fall!
AQS Grand Rapids
Quilts on the Grand. Grand Rapids MI
I went to Padukah this Spring for the first time
Lighthouse quilt guild retreats and Coast Guard show
I have never been to a quilting retreat and now have an infant and had to buy a new sewing machine so this won’t be the year, either.
I’ll be going to a quilt show in St. Cloud, Minnesota this coming year. Looking forward to it to see all of the diverse quilts! Inspirational!!
Our Wednesday Nite quilting group holds our own 4 day retreat at a members vacation home right on the water of the Southern Calif coast! We do this twice a year, lucky us! There’s always lots of delicious food, plenty of wine, trips to local quilt shops…oh, yes, and lots of quilting, too!
I’ll be attending a couple of quilt shows in my home state, but no retreats are on my schedule. There are several on my radar along the east coast for 2017, including a week long cruise retreat.
Dumas bay retreat in December! Good friends, good food, and a chance to finish Christmas gifts
Will try to go to some local shows but no concrete plans yet.
Looking forward to an annual retreat with friends! Quilting for 72 hours straight. 🙂
I’m going to Quilt Con in February – my daughter & I are celebrating her 30th birthday in Anna Maria Horners workshop.
I will be attending SEWTOPIA here in Austin later this Fall.
