COMMENTS ARE NOW CLOSED!!! GOOD LUCK TO ALL AS WE PICK THE WINNERS!
There are a lot of feathers ruffling about in the past few days with closings and changes in the quilt world, as well as challenges as to what it means to be a quilter. So much unnecessary need to align one’s self with just one certain style or dogma, real, imagined or put upon by anybody in the quilting world, and that includes me.
I truly believe that there is room out there for all of us to happily create. I live with the philosophy that the more you have the longer your table should be. We have a lot here at BAQS so our table is endless with room for every quilter who wants to be part.
Of course I have a total soft spot for those who are sassy and more than a little bad-assy but think that BadAssness comes in so many forms with it’s only membership obligation being to live your truth and let others live theirs to the fullest.
I believe in The Democratic Nation of Quilting™ <— pay attention there; it is going to be a thing!
We are the BadAss Quilters Society™ and we believe that quilting is a democratic pursuit and is open to anyone who wants to create. We are not bound by any style, stitchy dogma or rules that set unintentional or restrictive boundaries on creativity.
You are welcome here. One of more than 16 Thousand …. Let the giveaway begin!
Today we begin our celebration of 16 Thousand members of BAQS. We thank our sponsors for their endless support and we encourage those who are leaving a comment to enter the giveaway to also click some of the sponsor links and take the time to say thank you to them!

Packing for a retreat today!! Leaving tomorrow morning, can’t wait….awesome retreat with One Loose Threads.
Went to Hampton Roads (Virginia) quilt show this year.
Next year is hopefully St. Cloud, Minnesota and Syracuse, New York. Dual purpose, see old friends and relatives as well as have some fun.
No retreats for me until I can find one that’s dog friendly. He’s my best friend and I simply cannot stand to leave him.
Yes, I will be going to quilt festival in Houston this year with my wuilting mentor snd bestie. Its my first time. Im very excited! My DH got us a room in the hotel that connects to the festival. So its a double delight!!
I’ll be at the International Quilt Festival again this year
my d-i-l quilts and her son and I made a quilt together this summer
we’re making memories here
My church group will be having a retreat the end if September. I will be attending MQX in Springfield il this fall! Cant wait!
I have decided to host my own mini-retreat this year. Just a few friends, a big space, and fun. Come sew, knit, scrapbook whatever floats your boat. A Badassery good time.
I’m headed off to AQS Quilt show in Grand Rapids, Michigan on Thursday. Hanging with my sister and other family is a bonus. Then a friend and I are spending 4 days at AQS in Des Moines in October taking classes. Using some of my hubby’s Marriott points to stay. Might hit the WPT Quilt Expo in Madison, Wisconsin in September if I have some free time. It must be Fall because it’s quilt show season in the Midwest.
I have plans to attend the Gems of the Prairie Quilt Guild show, the Asheville Quilt Guild show, and AQS in Chattanooga. Good times!
Not making any retreats but will definitely be at the AQS show in Chattanooga. Great to see this page keep growing!
I quilt retreat at a friends house, she is a few hours away… so it makes for a mini retreat for me! I have never been to a quilt show, but I have been to the museum in Kentucky! And I always enjoy the local fair exhibits! I hope to expand my horizons soon!! With my rainbow baby boy or girl, due Feb 10th, 2017!
I am a graduate student and hope to finish in May of next year so there are no retreat or quilt show plans in the immediate future for me. However, quilting is keeping me sane through grad school. I have taken a couple of technique classes at my local quilt shop when my schedule has allowed. I am also participating in a quilt along for Jen Kingwell’s Gypsy Wife quilt through my local shop; we meet once a month. Depending on my course load, I am not always able to keep up with the piecing schedule but I always attend because it is a great experience and I always have a wonderful time and learn something new. The class is also filled with encouraging, helpful quilters, which is a huge benefit for a relative beginner like me. Someday soon I hope to get to Spool; I only live a few hours away! Congrats on 16K!
Headed up to to the Festival of Quilts in Birmingham, UK this weekend! It will be my first quilt show in years, can’t wait.
I quilt retreat at a friends house, she lets me use her long arm. I make a little vacation out of it, since she is a few hours away. I have never been to a quilt show, but I have visited the museum in Kentucky!! I have also enjoyed the fair exhibits, at the Midstate fair in Paso Robles, Ca. I hope to expand my horizons soon, with my rainbow baby boy or girl… due Feb 10th, 2017!
I went to the AQS show in Syracuse. I loved seeing the variety of quilts on display. It was inspiring. I will be going to Quilters Take Manhattan in September. This will be my third time.
I was at a retreat last weekend and will attend another in January. I am always looking for new Badass ideas for my next quilt. Spool is my favorite shop for new ideas and great company.
Not this year as am recovering from a broken shoulder in 4 places, but come April our guild Q.U.I.L.T.,Inc. in Delmar NY has a great one planned as it’s our 40th anniversary!
I hope to go to the local quilt retreat in February. It is a dream of mine to be able to go to a retreat out of town.
There’s a quilt expo in Madison, WI coming up in Sept. I want to go to. I’ve never been to a quilt expo before.
I am attending 2 quilt retreats in September: 1 in NE Ohio and 1 locally in the Chattanooga area. My first retreat is the week of the AQS show, but I hope to be home in time to attend at least one day of the show.
Attending the AQS quilt show in Grand Rapids, Mi. this week. My guild retreat is this fall of which I am attending. I also attend a retreat in Febuary each year. I volunteer in my quilt guild often. Make charity quilts with a group from my guild. I also judge quilting and sewing at our county fair. Such a pleasure to see the creativity in our young people.
None planned this year, but I’m taking my mom to QuiltCon in Savannah next February. Even staying at DeSoto Hotel on the beach! I can’t wait to visit your store again this month!
Probably won’t get to any shows that aren’t local considering the school schedule. But you never know. I’m always up for a road trip and I like to keep them in my radar in case I can get away!!
I will be going to a weekend retreat in Nov to Hiddenite NC. I don’t yet know which quilt project I will be assigned.. but all my choices were fun so I’m happy with whichever. Can’t wait! Also will attend a local quilt show in Oct.
Thank you for allowing us the freedom to be whatever kind of quilting badass we want to be. Let it flow.
Mountains in the fall {sept this year} beach or city in the spring!
Planning to go to the Quilt and Sewing Expo in Fredericksburg, VA in October and hopefully the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival in February. As a teacher and mom, getting “away” for retreats is tricky!
If I do go to a quilt show this year it will be something local. I work in the oil industry as a mechanical drafter and while low oil price equals great fuel prices, it also makes my job a little too unstable for long distance travel. Staying close to home and supporting local only right now. Thanks for the great giveaway. Supporting local can also be accomplished with a few clicks. You’re all local to someone. Thanks again!
I will be attending the Mancuso Pennsylvania National Quilt Extravaganza in Oaks, Pa. in September. I am bringing my daughter-in-law, a new quilter, and my son to their first quilt show.
Just finished a weekend of quilt camp at the beach with fellow guild members. In the fall I will be attending Glamp Stitchalot. .
I’m going to a retreat in Columbus Ohio in October. I have so much fun at these retreats. We are treated to lunch and dinner and there are always all kinds of snacks and treats that the sewers bring in. I think that one of the best things we can do is explore/shop the store while not wearing shoes in the store when it closes to customers!! One year it was cold and someone had bear claw slippers on. The employees will get some of us dancing. There are door prizes and the best part is show and tell. It is a good time with some awesome badass quilters! It lasts from Friday through Sunday.
I will again be attending the AQS Convention in Chattanooga and drooling over the vendor offerings. No retreat is on my calendar as yet. I have been to several classes this year with more to come.
I will be going to the show ‘Quilting on the Bayfront ‘ in Erie PA in September. It’s a lovely show that was moved from Chautauqua Lake in recent years. I hope to see Jenny Doan, Linda Hall and Kimberbell studios. I’m also interested in modern designs and hoping they will have a generous number of quilts on display.
No retreats scheduled…..yet! Going to spend a couple of days (and a couple of dollars!) at the AQS show in Chattanooga in September. Always a lot of fun. You go, girls at BAQ!
Awesome giveaway! Congrats on 16K! No retreats-just too difficult with kids & many activities. I will definitely attend the AQS that comes to my town!
I will attend a quilt camp with friends in October. We rent a 4 H camp. In November I will attend the International Quilt Festival in Houston with my Daughter.
I have never been on a retreat, but I’m waiting on the perfect occasion to come up so I can go! Would love to come down to see you, so if you plan a retreat…..! I will, however be hitting up the Quilt Expo in Schaumberg, Il come October. May hit Madison if I can sneak out of work if I can’t wait for Schaumberg!!!
This year I’m planning on attending the AQS here in Chattanooga. I have never done a retreat before but would love to give that a try one day.
Wow, congratulations and what a wonderful giveaway!!! Thanks for the opportunity! Yes, I will be going to the Wisconsin Quilt Expo in September. I’m signed up for a free motion class and my husband & I are signed up for a lecture on borders…can’t wait!!!
A friend of mine and I thought about getting a cabin in Colorado and quilting one weekend. Sounded so relaxing and how much quilting would get done!? ?
Will be going to our guilds day retreat next month. Lots of fun!
I will be going to the WPT quilt expo in Madison, WI. I go with a group of quilting friends and the memories we make are more fun than the show!
YES!!!! I am part of a small group of quilters who met 20 years ago, all newbies, at our local guild. 5 ladies of totally different backgrounds, education, finances and family life. We are the “S and M Quilters” (stitch and munch ?). They are my best friends and my go to people. Always ready to offer a hug and a hand. Our retreats are my reboot, my excape, my “we are going to Disney land” reality. Everyone should be so lucky!
Yes I will be attending quilt shows this year including showing some of my work at my guild’s show in October. I love quilt shows cause they are so colorful & full of variety, not to mention shopping!
Not going to any retreats although I wish I could! Will go to every quilt show I can find though!
Jenny in Florida
Unfortunately, family circumstances won’t permit me to attend any but local guild shows. This is why I so value the sassy presence of on-line quilters!
The Brandywine Valley Quilt Guild is having a Quilt Show on Oct 15th and 16th. My Granddaughter and I have entered a quilt in it and I will be working there all weekend. I am going to a “Sewing by the Sea” retreat in Nov. Prizes are fabulous!!! Thank you for leading us BAQ and keeping the spirit alive!!!
I always attend at least one quilt show a year. Would love to go to a retreat.
I do not have any plans to go this year… unless you count the class in machine appliqué I’m taking later this month, which I’m pretty excited about. Other than that, I plan to live vicariously through friends who are going.
I am hopeful for next year, though.
Going to an wonderful retreat in September at Clifty Falls State Park without approximately 90 quilters. There is something for everyone her, and all ages. Put on by wonderful host, Lora Nale, who used to own a shop and now has her own small retreat and sit and stitch center. Got to visit you shop last weekend, and loved it so much.
Yes! Several retreats: Mid Atlantic Mod in the spring of every year. Ferry Beach Quilting by the Bay in August every year and hope my guild will have one or maybe even two retreats just for us. Community sewing ROCKS!
I will be going to Whistlestop for a retreat. Also will be attending the AQS Chattanooga!
International Quilt Festival!!
