What fun we have had!… Two days and two videos on how to use rulers with your longarm and domestic sewing machines!
We started out on Friday with a mini-class (usually reserved for Speakeasy members only*) on using the Little Flipper as well as some tips on thread matching, and working with vintage fabrics. If you missed it over on Facebook I have added it below for your enjoyment!
Don’t have a longarm?… no worries you are not out in the cold when it comes to using rulers with your quilting! After the success of the video on Friday we got back online on Saturday and set up at the domestic machine! Lots of tips and tricks there as well ; once again showing off the best little quilting ruler from my friend Kim Brunner.
So what do you think? Are you ready to try ruler work on your machines? How about we make it easy and I do a sweet giveaway for a Little Flipper all of your very own? We will pick a winner on Friday the 24th!
Leave a comment and let me know if you are using rulers yet…. and remember you MUST have a special ruler foot so while you are waiting to see if you won, pop over to your machine shop and get the correct ruler foot for your brand of machine!
We have a winner – BRENDA HOWARD! Brenda, please contact me in the next 48 hours to claim your prize!

I’ve done a little ruler work on a long arm and my berninas and mega quilter. I’m getting better!!!!
Looking forward to trying this technique!
Hi from the Catskills in NY! I mostly do my quilting with my sit-down mid-arm machine and have been recently starting to dabble in ruler work. I am for sure a beginner, but am planning to practice and hopefully will be quilting away real soon! Thanks for your video helps.
Never saw such! Didn’t know you COULD use a ruler on a single needle domestic! Would love to try it out!!
Will look for a Juki ruler foot, and would like to try the Kimmyquilt.com rulers. Thanks for the video!
I recently bought the foot & rulers for my Bernina 839 & I am anxious to get going. I really enjoyed the videos & think the smaller ruler will be easier to handle. Thanks!
MJ, here. Have begun using rulers & love them!
Good luck in your new venture, Maddie”
I’ve been on the lookout for the foot for my machine. I really want to try the ruler work.
I use rulers on a longarm machine and would like to try them on my domestic machine too. It would be great to have a small ruler for my domestic machine that travels to sewing retreats with me.
Have never tried using rulers on my regular machine. Do not have access to a long arm, so no experience there, either. Would be fun to try!
I just bought a ruler foot for my Janome Horizon 7700. I am looking for a good ruler to begin ruler-quilting. Thank you for your demo!
I recently did some ruler work on my Brother 1500 with greater and lesser degrees of success. It is very helpful to have a high shank machine. My problem is that I learned to use rulers several years ago on a sit-down quilting machine, and this just isn’t the same. However I will get back to it when I have more time.
Don’t have a lot of time for my quilting yet and still doing old school…loved the video and will be trying ruler work asap…so far havent a short ruler …feeling gready…would love to win💞
I have tried quilting with ruler, but I find I am so incredibly tense!!!! Thinking this little do-dad plus your ‘sticky’ tricks would help me sooooooo much!
I’ll have to see if Jamone has a Ruler foot for my machine.
The older I get, the longer it takes me to learn new things The visual with explanations is so very helpful. Thank you
Love using rulers on my Gammill vision 2. I have many rulers from various people. I also have my favorites that I grab all the time. Have not tried ruler work on a domestic yet.
I am very interested in doing ruler work. I think a ruler foot should be available for my Tiara soon. I need to see if there is one for my Janome.
I am waiting on my ruler foot to come in for my Bernina and ready to start learning to use rulers with my Bernina, this small ruler would be a great start.
I love doing my own quilting, and my next step is to learn how to rulers. Thanks for the videos!
Getting my Bernina ruler foot on Tuesday, this would be the perfect try it ruler. thanks for the video!
Ready for ruler work on my new Juki!
Not yet but it’s on my birthday wish list.
I’m not using them yet but they are on my birthday wish list. I’m really wanting to do some of my own free motion quilting
Not us No rulers yet, but y’all are getter no me in the mood.
I really want to try this, but need to buy the foot first.
No, I haven’t used rulers yet on my domestic machine. I’m currently working on a special, “slow” quilt, and I think they would be perfect. Please choose me!
I’m planning on trying ruler work this summer when I have time to devote to mastering it.
Looks so interesting! Would love to try. Off to get a ruler foot in case I win! Thanks for the giveaway!
Since I am a longarm quilter who specializes in custom work, of course I use rulers! I practically have a fetish for new rulers. Kim’s Little Flipper looks like a fun little ruler!
I’ve begun using rulers on my Bernina (the new Bernina foot is fantastic!), but had never run across the Little Flipper before. This looks great! Thanks for the chance to win one!
I have a ruler foot. Thank you for the wonderful videos.
I am not using rulers yet but I am dying to try.
I’m learning to use rulers on my longarm. Thanks for the videos!
I have never done any ruler work but have seen it done on a video before and chickened out. Ready to try.
Never tried a ruler. Gonna check into my foot for my Janome
Enjoyed watching your video with the small ruler. I have not used rulers yet to quilt but am very interested.
Like using rulers. Currently on a cruise in Hawaii.
I haven’t used a ruler foot yet, but would love to try. The result look amazing!
I made ONE Quilt using a ruler and won a first place ribbon!!! I’m ready to make more!
I love doing ruler work and the more I practice the better I get!
I love the concept of ruler quilting, but discovered that while the folks doing the videos make it look easy, it takes some practice to get all the movements coordinated. It will be worth the time investment, though, to get such precise results.
I am actually taking a rulers class next Sunday. I took a Craftsy class on using rulers with my home machine but want to try it for myself. It would be great to get more accurate quilting on my home machine. That is, unless the Long Arm Fairy wants to deliver a $20000 hotrod with laser guided pantographs, stitch regulator and cappuccino machine for my quilting convenience. In the meantime, learning to use rulers will be nifty.
Hi from Florida. I have not used the rulers yet but they are definitely on my to do list.
I have not started using rulers for the actual quilting but I’m very interested to try something new!
Not yet but I really want to try it.
Newbie here…..can’t wait to get a ruler…my sewing machine came with the foot you were using today….you really have a way to get your audience excited about quilting…thank you!
I’ve been hearing about ruler work on a domestic machine and would love to learn this technique. Going to watch your video tonight.
I will be using a ruler foot and rulers on my domestic Bernina soon. Waiting for the foot and rulers on backorder at my LQS. Very excited to try this.
