Quilt Market Crazy
Edit: #18 Lynne McFern you are the winner of the fat quarter bundle! Please contact me by 8:48 pm Sunday the 26th to claim your prize!
It is Monday and I am home from a whirlwind trip to Spring Quilt Market in Portland OR.  I left out on Friday morning before dawn had even had time to show it’s crack and  then cooled my heels in the airport for a delayed flight. This was ok  since I used the  time to chill and soon I was on my way.
I even had time for an amazing 4 hour nap on the plane!
Soon enough I was in Portland and I was even greeted by a bit of blue sky! I think it was the only blue sky the whole weekend but I took it as a good sign!
Next was a quick hop onto Portland’s amazing MAX light rail transit system.  People this city knows how to do public transportation  right!  The rail took me from the airport right to the convention center easy as pie!
By about 1:30 on Friday I was walking in the doors of Quilt Market to the already steady humm of 1000’s of people ooohing and ahhing over some of the most stunning fabrics, booth displays and products  there are available to today’s quilter.
My first stop Was Bari J. Ackerman’s booth to see the work I did for her.. what an adorable booth!
Her booth was the perfect balance that highlighted the fabric but gave you room to move and gave your eyes a visual place to rest.  It was easy to know why you were there and easy to visit with this adorable lady that I am thrilled to call my friend.  Alas in all the crazy we did not get a photo together! poo!  Her collection is in stores now as well as online in places such as Hawthorne Threads  You are going to love Bijoux .
I met so many wonderful people that I had only known online.. this was THE very best part of the show.
I made a quick dash to grab a hug from the ever so wonderful Ms. Ebony Love of Love Bug Studio fame. Then for good measure I gave her my pants! ( You know there is a story there!). Â People this girl is the best bundle of energy and sweetness I know.. you must go like her page and learn for yourself why she is a real LOVE!
And this one… NOTHING but trouble.. really.. Capital T which rhymes with B….   Flaun Cline of I Plead Quilty I would not think twice about giving this woman my kidney.. she is that cool!!  She might look sweet… but don’t let that million dollar smile fool you- pure trouble this one!
Not much later I ran into Judy of  Quiltopia Studio… in fact she spotted me before I even saw her!  I swear that being in Quilt Market is rather  a lot for a girl with ADD.. I did not know where to look first.. so i am glad Judy shouted out to me!
Next was a quick visit with Natalie Barnes of Beyond the Reef
The colors in Natalie’s booth were swoon worthy.. such a fresh updated take on the beach look.. I really like it!
Next was a chat with the people at Cloud Nine fabrics.  Can I just say.. ADORABLE?.. and Organic. And really if you are sewing for a sweet newborn that is the time when you want fabric that has been created with care since it will be up next to baby’s sensitive skin!  Melissa From Generation Q magazine and I had a wonderful visit with these folks and  hint hint… you will be seeing more of this fabric very soon {que the suspenseful music!}
My landing pad for the weekend was the super comfy booth of the Generation Q Magazine people.  Do you know the Gen Q people?.. if not I highly suggest checking them out.  They are a wonderful quilting lifestyle magazine that brings the newest and best fabrics, products and designers to you in a way that feels as relaxed and easy as a summer picnic. By-passing the hype and getting down to why quilters do what they do and not to mention how they have fun!  Make sure to check the Gen Q FB page for even more amazing Market pics!
Tomorrow I will put up part 2 where I find a huge swan, feel virtuous for eating a power bar and not an amazing Voodoo Dounut and see so much more eye candy that my head is still spinning!
Until then maybe you would like to take a chance at a  delicious Fat quarter stack from the Fine folks at Generation Q magazine and Michael Miller??  This collection is called Sorbet and it is as fresh as Summer.  If you would like to be part of the giveaway please leave a comment about what you plan to sew this summer and I will be drawing for a winner on Friday! (Giveaway open in the US and Canada only)

I’m putting together blocks that were gifts from friends in to a big ol’ fall colors quilt! Lovely memories! If I finish in the summer…it will be ready for fall!
Im just starting to get interested in brights and would love some to make a quilt to be decided if I win this fabric. And what am I sewing this summer……..welllllllll the choices are endless…….lol and focusing can be difficult for me. Sigh.
This summer I’ll be sewing up a new set of place mats and a matching table runner for my kitchen table!! I love seeing the pictures from market! Thanks!!
I plan to try a dahlia quilt…..these fabrics would make it in there!
Finish an extra large bed quilt for us and them on to baby quilts. Wouldn’t that material make adorable baby quilts from my friends twin girls due this fall!
This summer sewing… hopefully working on projects for my sons wedding in 2014.. :0)
I have more UFO’s than I would care to admit to, so I am going to try to finish off a few of them. One new project I would like to add to my things to do this year, is a braid quilt. I have seen some really beautiful braid quilts and would like to try my own.
My granddaughter wants me to decorate the bottom of her bunk bed to look girly girl. I plan on putting curtains all around the 4 sides with the one side able to slide open. Coordinating quilt and pillows, too, of course.
Thanks for the tour! Feel the excitement ! This (early) summer ill be finishing a large quilt for my bro and SIL. Large fans of Japanese fabrics on a background of Kona Brown and Mahogany. Pretty awesome if I do say so myself. Next, my second Hexies quilt. Would love to make it using the sorbets. Thanks for the opportunity. Cheers. Susie
I plan to finish 2 baby quilts and a block of the month quilt this summer. I have been eyeing that fabric for a while & would definitely love to win it! Glad you enjoyed market!
I just received a challenge to do a block a month for the next 12 months, and my favorite color is orange!! I would sew love to have these!!
Oh now i have to commit myself to what I’m sewing this summer? well 4-6 wall hangings for a community art event, a 100th birthday gift, 2 reproduction quilts for the local heritage society, and one or 2 of those ideas that I just loved at the merchant mall of the Quilt Canada conference. I’m going to be busy.
Love those bright colors. Fun, Fun, Fun! I’ll be working on a Lone Star Quilt this summer.
I have three new granddaughters (My son married a girl with four children–a boy and 3 girls.) and one girl on the way. I’m collecting “girlie” fabrics for quilts for each of the granddaughters.
Great pictures! I’m enjoying all the posts about Market. Each person has a different view! The fabric bundle is sweet! Great colors. I’m working on some quilts. I just found out my friends are closing their store, and I want to get some tops done and basted there before I lose my great table for basting quilts. It’s going to be a UFO summer, and maybe some table runners.
I am planning on taking more time to work on my hexies so i can get my grandmothers flower garden quilt done some day.
That Sorbet is yummy! I’m completing an enormous stained glass quilt in Crayon colored batiks this summer. Then on to a girlie pink and green quilt for a new ” big girl bed” for my granddaughter.
Oh I love the colors! I am starting to get into bright colored quilts so this would be the perfect addition to some much needed stash! I am working on several projects this summer…one to be unveiled later for my new art!
Love the colors right now I am working on a Christmas project
Umm you will laugh – but I need to make a graduation quilt for someone who graduates this saturday… needless to say – it will be and Off to College Quilt instead!!!
those colors are wonderful, I can see some pretty skirts and/or dresses for my granddaughters 🙂 I have skirts / dresses, quilts and some totes in my immediate plans..starting a new applique project soon. and doing some blocks for a swap I am in.
I’m thinking sunflowers and dahlias on a wall hanging would be lovely.
Love the colors in this bundle. Would be happy to make something bright and beautiful with them at Quilting By The Lake here in Syracuse, N.Y. I am taking a class from Cathy of Material Obsessions. Please make them mine!
Looks like you had a blast!!! Wow!!!
I plan to get as many UFO’s finished as possible!!!! Oh and maybe start something new too:) Those sorbet fabrics could be the start of something new:)
Thanks!
SOOOOO PRETTYYYY!!! I’m working on a king quilt for my bro…and really hoping to do some table runners and bed runners this summer! Maybe do some funky hand quilting while camping! WOO HOO…do love the summer!!!!
How did you resist the Voodoo donuts? I would have been all over that! My daughter and I are sewing for our military boys this summer. While her boyfriend is at Army boot camp (now), she’ll be making a quilt for him. And I’ll be working on a quilt for my son who is leaving for Marine Corps recruit training in September. If we win the giveaway, we’ll be keeping those luscious prints for ourselves!
I have a big stack of bag patterns I’ve been patiently waiting to start! I’m going to knock out as many of those as I can! How fun would that be in these delicious flavors?!
Drool! Love the fabric.
My 83 yo aunt in Maine has the most wonderful neighbors. Neighbor plows the snow in winter and mows the yard in summer, brings in her mail in stormy weather. Often brings flowers and veggies from their garden. I think a quilt is my summer plan for my aunts neighbors and the Sorbet collection is a great place to start!
Love the update–looking forward to playing with my Tula Pink fabrics this summer!
Love the sunshiny colors! I am working on UFO’s this summer and adding these brights would make my projects glow! Thx for the story of your trip and the great pictures, so great to KNOW and BE a Bad Ass Quilter!
I’m dedicating this year to UFOs (how compulsive of me, yes I know lol) and this summer I’ll be building a quilt using William Morris sort of fabrics. Although…this fabric may change all that lol. Thanks for the chance to win
Hexies! I am addicted.
I plan on completing applique blocks showing sumptuous flower arrangements and could get very inspired to sew a summer-looking tablecloth with the fabric in this beautiful FQ bundle. I love taking my sewing machine out on the deck and sewing between dips in my pool. Have a great summer everyone!
I love the fabric. I’d like to do a modern quilt with this fabric.
I am hoping to get an i spy quilt or two done! Plus another quilt for my son
I’m spending the summer sewing for my new baby niece, due in September, after 10 (count ’em… TEN) nephews and no frills in sight for 20 years. This fabric would be perfect!
I am making a lap quilt for my SIL for her 50th!! Now this is a big secret so don’t say a thing! Oh and if I win please don’t post my response on FB… It will be a dead giveaway!!! Anyhoooo, the quilt is gorgeous… Tempting to keep for myself (insert snickering here!), but it is meant for her and I really don’t have the time or resources to start another!! I can’t wait to see her face when she when it’s done!!!
I am going to be working on a baby quilt for an impending bundle of doom, err, I mean, joy? 😉
Planning a quilt as wedding gift for my grandson and future granddaughter-in-law, Love those kids. Doing a kaleidoscope with Curious Nature.
I don’t know if I’m going to get to sew anything this summer! My kids are going to want to be outside all the time, so I’m thinking about starting an EPP project soon.
Baby qiilts. Double wedding ring wall quilt
I am going to make some clothing… shorts and skirts for my girl, skirts for me, and some bags and maybe a quilt or two.
Beautiful! Looks like you had lots of fun! I’ll be finishing one table runner and starting another! 🙂
I’ll be finishing a red white and black modified 1600 quilt and getting another started and finished for my daughters birthday, as per her request. These fat quarters are amazing and I’d happily fill the rest of my summer quilting with them!
Ahh I love all the photos. I wish I could have been there! I’m sewing/quilting all kinds of stuff as my quilt shop is opening next month! Squeee! I’m so excited about that. I’ll also be reupholstering my terribly ugly pink couch that I inherited from my mother on Saturday. (More like she just dumped it on me… cause that shit is ugly with a capital U.)
I am actually working on a funky Christmas quilt and finishing up a French Braid quilt. Ohhh, but all those UFO’s are crying from the stacks…finish me please!
Oooh ooooh, I have been lusting over the sorbet, but trying so sew hard to NOT buy more fabric. Winning it would be cool though. My fingers are crossed (well not really because I couldn’t type with them crossed, but figuratively speaking.)
Ah my buddy Ebony– I follow both of you on FaceBook so I know about her “pants dilemma.” Ha ha.
I plan on working on Retro Rubies Wall Hanging by Alyssa Lichner from “Modern Patchwork” Spring 2013 edition!!
Beautiful! Love those colors! Great for a summer project! Do I feel a tote coming on?
SWOON! This fabric line is perfect for a summer project! I have a “Hex n More” ruler dying to be used…this fabric would surely inspire!
