If you were hanging around last month when we were talking about some of my new favorite tools for quilting and I was talking about The Little Flipper you know that I am a really big fan of Kim Brunner and her work as a quilter and a teacher. The products she develops fit my needs as a quilter and the nice part of it is that her templates can be used on the longarm and the domestic!
Well, having the templates is just the start since from there you can fill to your hearts content and that is what I am thinking about right now and that is where this tip comes from. Again, this tip works for anyone using templates for either their longarm or domestic machine sewing… so why not give it a look?
See…. didn’t I tell you?… so what do you think? Are you getting the most out of your templates or are you still working up the nerve to dive in and give them a try?
Do remember that it is CRITICAL that you have a foot MADE for working with templates since no matter how steady you think you are it is WAY too easy to ride up over the acrylic, shatter the templates and knock your machine out of timing. Almost all brands have feet made for templates now, so get one and dive on in… the water is fine!
Our Winner is Adam Rateliff!

I’d use the template to learn! I’m a newbie, trying to learn. The templates would also work in appliqué!
I really want to learn how to quit with rulers. I just bought a ruler foot for my Janome 7700. I haven’t bought any quilting rulers yet, so winning this set would be awesome! Thanks for the opportunity!
I would love to try templates! I am working on improving my free motion quilting.
Wanting to learn how to create a wholecloth quilt. What to do to fill out all that blank space.
I have not tried melon shapes yet, but my next venture will be to try free motion quilting.
Just got into using templates with my domestic machine. Am still learning. would love to try the melons.
I want to learn to do freehand feathers.
The template looks like so much fun and I just ordered a foot to use acrylic rulers on my domestic machine. Can’t wait to play, this would add to the adventure.
I need to get braver with my machine quilting… still adjusting to it being an art form rather than only a means to gold the quilt together!
Oh, I got so excited when I saw these templates. I have been wanting some for so long. Thanks for the chance.
I’m good with any long arm or quilting lessons, tips and tricks. I also would like some simple all over designs. Sometimes a quilt just needs a little umph but not something completely detailed.
My sister in law uses these or something very much like these and I want to so very bad. She told me I could cone over and give it a go anytime, we don’t live terribly close and I told her it would have to be after my father has passed as I am taking care of him in his final days and too busy. But this as well as spreading my wings in thread art are the two things I am so looking forward to. I have wanted to do this on my machine for so very long it makes me crazy. Ok, I was crazy before. CraziER? so neato.
I rent time on a long arm because I can’t seem to master free motion on a domestic machine. Would love to try these templates!
I want to learn all I can about applique.
I would love to learn how to use templates for domestic machine quilting!
I want to give thread painting a try
These would be fun to try on a few upcoming projects!
Hmmm. . . these templates might be just the key to keeping my quilting under control.
I would love to be able to try these out!
I have never used templates on my domestic to quilt but I sure would love to give it a try! I am always up for trying something new.
Oh these have got my creative juices flowing! Now I just need those templates so I can go and play…….. fingers crossed
Wow!!! Great give-away! I love using rulers!!!!
I’m wanting to learn how to use rulers when quilting with my Janome 6600. Thanks for the giveaway!
I would love to start learning ruler work. It would be a great addition to my new Bernina. It’s a domestic but I think I can make them work for me.
I want to master freemotion quilting.
Thank for the tips.
I don’t use templates too often because both of my long arms have computers. I have a really good friend that does fantastic custom quilting hand guided and the melons would be a great gift for her.
I have not tried melon shapes, these look like great fun and quilting should be all about the fun!
I loved Kimmy Brunners’ template video and have been looking at her rulers! I have a Midarm and just got a ruler foot and several beginner rulers. I would love her melon rulers! I have been FMQ for 1 ½ years and am ready to take my quilting to the next level. I have been playing with my rulers for the last 2 weeks (and, perfecting my feathers…) so much to do….
Genius tip, this has been bothering me for longer than I want to admit. I’m just starting to use more templates and really think the melon shape would offer many options. I’m off to kimmyquilt.com. Thanks for the tip
These templates look awesome! I’d love to use them for the basis for some nice FMQ feathers!
I have the Craftsy class for quilting a dresden plate quilt taught by Kimmy. She makes a great product.
Great video. Thank you so much for the awesome tip. I love these templates and think they need to be added to my collection. HAPPY QUILTING!!
Love this! Exactly what my next skill to learn is going on to be.
Just venturing into ruler work, would love these. Thanks
I live the idea of practising the design first on paper. I would not have thought to add the 1/4 inch. Thanks so much for the tip
I would love to learn more about using templates. These Melon Templates would be a wonderful beginning to start learning! With that being said, “Pick me! Pick me!”…..:)
This would be a new experience for me… I’ve been seeing the use of templates for sewing beautiful designs on the internet and would love the opportunity. The melon shape has to be a favourite 💕
How fun! I’ve never worked with templates so I’d love to try!
I have not seen these templates!!! Where have I been??!! They would be perfect for needle turned appliqué (my cardboard ones aren’t too great). I’ve discovered a new technique for needle turning and would love to test it out!!
Oh I would really love having these. So cool! I am just beginning using rulers, so any ideas of what you can do with them is great.
YES PLEASE! I did an online template class with Kimmy so I sure would LOVE to win these!
New to long arm quilting so like a sponge I am soaking g up everything, could use more tips on rulers, would love to win these.
I have a Midarm and I am trying to learn how to use rulers. That said I am teaching myself satin stitching. It is harder then it looks.
Looking to work more on free motion and template quilting would love to win these.
Oh I love the temple! They are sew cool! I want to learn more about applique and incorporate it into my next new project. angielovesgary2 atgmail dotcom
I need the melons!! I teach FMQ on a domestic for many of the local guilds and I need to expand my classes to include rulers. Kimmy’s rulers that can go from LA to DSM would be perfect for sharing knowledge with others wanting to learn.
I have a design floating in my head and it involves adding appliqué leaves to a Dresden flower. The melons look perfect! I can use your tip to make my appliqué template from the melons and then use the melons to stitch in the ditch around the appliqué. In my head it looks perfect!
tried templates after a few broken needles and a chewed up template, I gave up ! Would like to try again – this is giving me some more inspiration to try again
I’m looking forward to mastering curved piecing. I started cutting out pieces for a quilt for my daughter…lots of curves…then she said she preferred something else. Now I will do the curvy quilt for me. Looking forward to loving it!
Ohhhh! Templates! I have a straight edge and circular, but this just looks soooo nice. I would love to get my hands on these!
