WE HAVE A WINNER… SCROLL TO THE BOTTOM TO SEE!!
So I have total bone to pick with modern sewing… this whole GREY thing.. ( or GRAY if you must)… Modern quilters are ALL ABOUT the grey, but they did not invent the love of it.  I have been loving this color since it was the poor bastard stepchild of the color wheel.  Oh how it irked the holy shit out of my mother. She said grey was the color of  “prison matrons and dykes”  and while mom sure had a way with words and she got a bit closer than she ever dreamed on her proclamation and I did not care. I wore grey then and I wear it now as well as quilting with it so I was  pleased as punch to see that MY color for  Sam Hunters Blog hop was … yes.. GREY
And if you want to take a swing at it , here is a  Grey/Gray  of your own… click here for the Paper Pieced pattern of your very own!
I am fecking ( see that nice Irish word I used since I would never say fucking here on the blog) pleased as all hell to  have a QUILT in this BadAss book!
In a totally not typical  for me ~little ray of sunshine~moment  I went super cute with  my quilt inspired by the the sunny fabrics that were stacked on my work table at that moment. – and to be clear that moment was when Sam called me and said… HEY… “would you be willing to make a quilt for my new book? It is all about paper piecing words to make quilts rock”
I had paper pieced before, not well and not happily but the truth is that I would jump off a high building for Sam so  joyfully launching into paper-piecing seemed like the least I could do for her.  And you know what? I found out that I really like the holy hell out of it and I am tickled three shades of pink at how my quilt for the book came out.
I wanted something funky, cute, relaxed and that did not look like I had an Add a Quarter ruler shoved my my ass in search of perfection the whole time I did it. – I think I succeeded.  Since lets face it some people who are all  crazy about precision paper piecing  make it look hard like  rocket science and about as fun as a colonoscopy (I call them quilting dementors – they suck the joy out of it!) But the truth is that it is lots of fun and you can do some fantastic things with this technique.
For that reason I really find Sam’s book an amazing breath of fresh air in the fact that she gives you permission to make the quilts that YOU want to make and guides you through the somewhat inside/outside/upside/ for how to design your own text not just sticking to her choices. She WANTS you to rock it and gives you all the skills and advice so you can.
Bull hell you don’t have to sweat it too hard, there are 12 awesome projects in the book to get you launched into the world of  Quilt Talking  before you have to think about doing something totally original .. so don’t get your panties in a bunch.. be cool.
Personally  for my money this is the quilt to make
But then I am also considering  making one of those soft buckets that reads SEX TOYS.. or maybe just VIBRATORS.  Check back in with me on that and see if I get that done, I am shooting for Christmas. But if you  do it first I TOTALLY WANT TO SEE IT.. hell I will even send you a BadAss Quilter cup if you send me a photo of it!
So here is the part when I give you a chance to win a copy of the book.. this is going to be be FAST and furious. Â The giveaway beginning now and I will pick a winner on the evening on the 17th.
Answer this question ( place your answer in the comments).. what word would YOU put on a soft Quilt Talk bucket?
pssssstttt…. want another cool pattern???.. pop over to Sam’s blog and sign up for her newsletter.. Â it is SEW WORTH IT! <—click there
Congratulations to the winner – Quiltzyx/Sue

“Junque”. Just like regular junk but fancier!
I think I need a bucket that says “Tchotchkes.”
Two buckets….yay and nay…or yes and no. I would use to sort scraps immediately. I love those precious little pieces that add exactly the pizazz that I need for a chicken’s beak or a flower center or perhaps the punctuation in a talk quilt! Thanks.
Mine. Won’t keep the kids out or I would have to make them their own 🙂
i think i’d make a pair – This and That or Maybe and Maybe Not
I’d put “circular file” on one. I’ve always heard that reference used for the trash can (which of course is not the purpose as I’d never toss a single scrap of fabric!)
Thanks for a chance to win.
Snips!
Shit that has no place
Oh what, oh what would my bucket say? “List” as in bucket list? “do not kick” the bucket? But quilty? Hmmmm….I think “orts” as in thead scraps. I have been saving mine from long arming I was going to put them out for the birds to use in nests this spring. And a bucket would help keep me from throwing them on the floor.
And I soooo need to make that “impossible” quilt. NEED to!
Bourbon!
Sew BadAss!
My bucket would say “Scrids”. It’s a made-up word we use in my family for leftovers and scraps. 🙂
Create!
I think I will make a bucket with the word LUBE on it- for our bedroom. 🙂
Whatever…
‘Smile’ – we should do it more often!
TIME
I’m making 3 buckets. Badass Stuff, Future Awesomeness, and Because I’m TOTALLY Worth It.
Not Yours
Mine would have to say “Bullshit Bucket” . . . just because it has a nice ring to it!
There are so many possibilities. I’m thinking the first one will be “junk” or “stuff” to sit on the top of the dresser for all the little stuff that collects there. Then I want one each in all the colors and I plan on hanging them from a long towel rack on my dormer wall above my cutting table. My hope is that I might actually be able to see the surface again…..
I need to make several of the buckets for Christmas presents the grand-kids will love them and maybe the Lego’s will get picked up before I visit. That would make the parents happen when I give more presents containing Lego’s. I hope I win this book, but if I don’t I will buy it.
HAHA! LOVE your words you are considering. That might keep my adult boys from spying stuff in my room while I’m gone. LOL OH hell, what am I thinking? They’re boys. That would probably draw them to that bucket first.
I know what would keep everyone in my house out of the bucket – I’ll make one that says ‘Cleaning Supplies’! Yep, That should do it and in that one, I’ll store my good chocolates. They’ll be safe in there forever…….from everyone but me of course.
I think my first bucket would be “Catch all” I have alot of scraps that would be great to house in one….but I really love the “sex toys” That would be one I definitely could use…(wink single girl that I am) LOL
I think I need one that says JUNK since I am always making junk drawers/
Trash! I need a catch all bucket. 🙂
Considering how often containers are grabbed from their spots to use for other things, “Hands Off!” would be my choice.
My first bucket is going to say “Oh Scrap!” – because I really, really need a bucket for scraps!!! Then my next bucket will say “Knit Happens” – because… well, you get the picture 🙂 How about one that says “Hex Toys”? I can see the potential for SO MUCH FUN! My Mom would absolutely swoon over your Sunshine quilt – her grandmother used to sing that to her to rock her to sleep as a small child. I may have to try to do one of those for my very special Mom too!!!
I would love to win one of Sam’s books. It would be a treasure on my shelf rather than just another book I bought impersonally from a store!
“Quilt bugging me . . . I’m sewing!!!!
Just Greyt Grey is for Greyhounds but ‘just greyt’ is a phrase of minor frustration. Unless the bucket is for collars or treats. I need a bucket that says, “To Be Thrown Away Eventually” or “Just Bloody Toss It”.
love
I know it is sappy, but I konw the book will be great! so please pick me!
My bucket would say “MINE” because my kids are always taking my stuff and this would clearly differentiate the stuff I share that they are welcome to use and the stuff they shouldn’t touch because it’s MINE.
Mine would say “OH SCRAP”
My bucket would say ‘ Useful bits’.
“sCRAPs”
🙂
FML
Mine, all mine, is what my bucket would say!
‘Homeless Do-Dads’
STUFF – ’cause that’s what my Dad used to call me (I was his stuff!).
I think “zen” would help me a lot! LOL!
I’m thinking “Fecking Good” would be pretty fun – I forgot about using E instead of U – I have a friend and we say fickfackfuck to express our puzzlement or annoyance or whatever – but “feck” – very nice!
P.S. I tried to sign up for email updates, but got the notice that it isn’t set up to do that??? Would LOVE to follow you via email!!!!
Sorry about the double-post!! I would happily delete one of these, but can’t see how?!! Please feel free to do so!

“just stuff”
I’m totally making one that says Unicorn Farts. 🙂 In sparkly fabric.
Odds & Ends! I am actually thinking of making a quilt with all the nick names my husband & I have for our daughter. I’d like to make it crossword puzzle style. We are at seven and counting!
My Tools!! I don’t share my tools well 🙂 But I think I’ll need to take you up on your challenge if I win the book!!!
I would put the word, “Mine!” on my bucket.
nehanson@shaw.ca
carry on….
“Don’t touch”!
Something “Misc Crap” or “Crap that has no other home” or “Junk Drawer” since I don’t have a junk drawer and wish I had one, haha.
