The days between Christmas and New Years always seem to have a magical quality about them. The closing out of a year and the excited planning of the new year yet to come ( I already have my new planner.. do you have yours?). On my part it is with great excitement that we will be moving to a new house.. a house that needs a lot of work but that will be our home for the next 20 years at least. I adore feathering a nest and look forward to sharing all my adventures with you as we work our way through many..many projects and possibly not a lot of quilting but we will be creating a brand new studio! So, if you can’t find me look under the bubblewrap and boxes I am sure to be there somewhere!
With so much to do I did want to take the time to thank each of you for being part of BadAss Quilters Society. It is my honor to head up this troop of extraordinary quilters and help bring voice to those in the industry who might not get their due otherwise. I can’t say it has always been easy and there are days when I think about packing it all in. To be told by multiple companies that my demographic does not have enough “voice” for them to pay me for the work I do or to be shunned or dismissed as not of value, yeah that stings, but it also lights a fire in me and helps me double down on growing BAQS large enough so they cannot ignore us.
As of this moment there are near 27 THOUSAND people who groove on our mission that quilting is for everyone and even more than that; a just and equitable industry where creatives are paid for their work, and no one is discrimanted against is important. Our last giveaway was seen by more than half-a-million people… Power in numbers baby!
These steadfast beliefs make it even more important that I shout-out to the companies that do work with us. Those who know that diversity matters and makes our quilting community an even more important place and safe haven for many. Of course I have spoken to you of my beloved Fil-Tec and the amazing people at QT Fabrics.… today I want you to get to know the people at Colourwerx.
Linda and Carl rock my world with the fresh design and a spunky, bright asthetic that can bring a smile on even the most grey day!
I could not be more ticked to be partnering with them to ring in the new year in quilty style. We are going to help them celebrate the release of the new Mini Mod series by doing a giveaway here on the blog and over on the BAQS FB page!
Here on the web page you need only leave a comment to win a chance at the cutest new MOD DOG mini kit that makes the most fun pillow! Filled with not only the pattern but also strips of Faffe Fasset fabrics, Essex Linen and even the button of the eye you are ready to sew soon as it gets to your mail box! Our Winner is AMY DANE!
Keep your eyes open for yet another giveaway over on the BAQS FB page… it will happen before New Years… so you will not have to wait long! In the mean time make sure you get in on the Mod-Monster giveaway as well!..

Ok.. here is the comment question – What is your biggest goal for the new year??? – answer below for your chance to win! Winner will be picked on Jan 1st!

Finish some of my WIPs or give them away to someone who will love them and finish them.
My goal is to finish 6 UFOs in 2018!
My goal is to blend the creation of new ideas and the completion of existing projects ~ ~ and to keep learning and growing and sharing.
Number one is to finish the blocks and make the top for my granddaughter’s quilt. Then make my other granddaughter’s Christmas stocking (she had a temporary one this year). After that, pick one of a multitude of started projects, and by started I mean have the fabric and pattern in a box for them, and get one done!!!
My goal is to spend more time in my sewing room. To quilt more. This last year was the first year in our new home. Creating new routines. I have missed quilting. I need to focus on tgat this new year! Happy sewing!!
Goal for 2018 is to teach a beginning Quilt class on National Quilting Day, March 17.
My youngest son is getting married and my sister is retiring so, of course, there are quilts to be made but my biggest goal is to lose weight and get back in a better form of shape!
aw, it’s such a cute kit!!
i don’t know what next year’s goal should be, because i don’t really have my shit together to look at 2017 critically yet.
maybe my 2018 goal should be to GET MY SHIT TOGETHER! and probably finish some UFOs, they’re kind of taking over my world…
I want to finish all the quilts I start in a timely manner and get rid of some of the UFOs!! I also need to quit buying fabric! HA, HA!
Keep on fighting for us all. Thank you for your many inspirational posts,.
My 2018 goal is to complete at least 10 UFO’s. Now to make the list and follow it. 😉
I want to get several quilts finished this year. This will help me to reduce my fabric collection
Biggest goal for 2018 is to severely reduce the volume in the WIP/UFO Pile.
My biggest goal for 2018 is to get rid of or find a place for all of the crap that is piled EVERYWHERE in my house. The piles started when my Mom had some health issues that lead to Alzheimer’s & I was her only care-giver for many years. I would get home, drop stuff off & go to her house, come home, go to bed & start again the next day. Now I can’t seem to break the habit, but I am going to do my darnedest to break it in 2018!
My goal for 2018 is to get quilts made for my nieces and nephews. There are 5 of them and they haven’t had a new quilt since they were babies. The youngest will be 22 in February!
Biggest goal- to convince my family that time spent reading, quilting, or crocheting isn’t “doing nothing”; at the very least it burns off the crazy, and the results keep them WARM!
My biggest goal for the new year is to complete all UFOs and make a quilt for each of my grandchildren and great granddaughter.
My goal is to work on the pile of UFOs and to do as many mystery quilts as I can fit in.
Personal biggest goal-to become a little fit and lose some weight-quilting goal-to complete a new kit I recently purchased(it’s a large scale design-very challenging).
To continue the momentum of the career opportunities that have opened up after long years out of the workforce. Though my quilting time has been seriously cut into!
My goal is to set up my new sewing studio and tackle the pile of tops that have accumulated over the past year – I am waiting for my dearest love to finish building the walls …
Finishing my UFOs
I want to get rid of all my kits so I’m planning on completing 1 kit a month in 2018 It won’t even make a dent in my kits but it’s start!!! Oh and clean up/out my sewing room.
Stop stressing that others have plenty and forgetting that I need some too.
My top sewing/quilting goal for 2018 is to burn through my stash and finish all of those projects that were started in 2017….. It’s time to get a little control over the chaos!
Grow the new LQS we just opened and explore some new techniques
Install cat hammocks in my sewing room so I can get something done atound my 5 lounge cats!!!
Biggest goal is to work on some of the WIP that we found when we sorted stuff out in the craft room…..
My goal(s) for 2018 is to get my schedule back on track by more frequent use of the word “no”, making time for me to say “yes” to my own projects!
I am turning 60 this May, and have planned a girls weekend in NYC to celebrate. My biggest goal is to climb the steps in the Statue of Liberty and look out her crown. This is something I have wanted to do since childhood, and a great physical therapy motivation as I have had a knee replacement and 2 hip replacements in the past 2 years. The last surgery was 4 months ago and I am finally feeling like this goal is reachable.
Happy New Year, Maddie, and thanks for all you do!
My biggest goal is one that cannot be measured in a concrete way. At year’s end, I want to have spent my time and effort becoming more connected to the people I love. I want to have used my energy toward that end. I want to be sure I didn’t waste my time, or miss opportunities, or make lesser choices. Time is precious, those people are precious, and I need to act on that knowledge.
To make a quilt for my mom using her old dresses that were made by her MIL. Sewn on a treadle machine and all embroidered by hand. Not looking forward to working with polyester, but want to use as much of the embroidered parts as I can. I think I found a pattern that might work.
2017 was a crappy year for me and mine, so I am looking forward to getting my creativity back in 2018, whatever it takes!
My big goal is to make a king size hexagon quilt for my daughter.
My biggest quilting goal for the new year is to make at least 40 quilts! I slacked off in 2017 and only got to 25. But I make a lot of small quilts for Project Linus and that keeps my total up.
My aim is to sew only from 30 bins of scraps and see how many quilt tops, blocks and table runners I have by Dec 2018. Already have 5 projects done and started on Dec 15th.
I want to create four seasonal quilts for a quilt rack I had custom-made by GWiz Wood Products (veterans make the racks) for my new home.
(P.S. I think you meant “tickled” instead of “ticked” above. 😉)
My biggest goal is to make the unfinished quilt box smaller so I can walk into the corner where it lives. I moved it in a year and a half ago and discovered lovely forgotten treasure. So far I’ve finished two. So many lovelies awaiting me! Need to learn to watch TV!
Oh, should have read…my biggest goal for 2018 is a new roof on my house! (So my stash stays dry.)
the Kaffe Fassett fabrics make such a lively doggie. I will be watching for it in the mail.
Thank you.
To get three patterns ready–the samples are done, just need to get the writing done! Spend some time improving my quilting skills on RUBY, my new to me Gammill. Make a BIG dent in my UFO list. Make some new quilting friends and stay in touch with the tried and true (I won’t say old!)
My goal for 2018 is to learn and master my “new to me” longarm machine. Owning one is a dream come true, but the intimidation factor is high!
To finish 2 quilts that someone else started and hope I can “measure up”!!! Lol
Organize my mess!
I want to improve my custom quilting skills.
Hi Maddie,
We also moved this year after 26 years in one home and then traveling back and forth for work to another state. I also retired and my main goal is to get back into quilting and finishing up some quilts I have and take some classes to reignite my creative curiosity! Thanks for all that you do and good luck with your move!
To practice loving myself unconditionally every moment of every day and be the best I can possibly be!
Yay – hope it’s me!!
Organization my sewing area and materials. Then get to work! Oh, and continue to accept complements for my awesome Badass sweatshirt!
I have 5 quilts that need binding, 5 quilts that need to go to longarm sewer, I have 3 quilts that are cut and partially put together–I would like to finish those and I have at least 20 with pattern and material pulled that I would like to start on, I also have 5 flannel quilts that I want to do for next Christmas, PWEW!
My goal is a brand new Etsy shop with a laser etched product that my daughter and I are already ga-ga over! And since she loves dogs, and we can’t get one because of allergies, that pillow would be perfect for her!
