I don’t think I’ve ever fallen out of love with my whole stash. There are always those ‘what was I thinking?’ fabrics, but I just have to turn my head 1/4″ and ‘OOOHHHHH!!!’
Beautiful fabric… I’m in love!!
I go in my sewing room and start handling my pilecof fabric. Sometimes I remember, ooh that was this pattern. Then I find the pattern and I am off!
I pull out a pattern that I have been wanting to make and start rifling through my stash to see what I can “shop” from there first. Most of the time I find one or two oldies that I had forgotten about that will be perfect for a different project than the one I was pulling fabric for. So I go with that one instead!
I go to my local quilt store and look at the many projects they’re featuring. Then, I go home and look through the 11 tubs of fabric I have to put together my next project!
I’m always color valuing my fabric. (Is that such a word). Hues values. It’s my color palette. I use to paint a quilt
Love, love, love this giveaway!
I go through the tubs and packages of my “to do” projects and get that loving feeling going through the fingertips and palms then into my veins. This also reignites me to start something new!
I go back to my favorite fabrics (30’s) and make something.
I’m going to have to redo my stash room because I have to move a bookcase into it. But that will give me more storage room
Sometimes it just needs to age and it’s love again!
The reason it’s not doing it for me is because I just haven’t found the right thing to do with it. Sometimes it just takes a while. ๐
I love going back through my fabrich and finding pieces I love. Sometimes things I forgot I have and fall in love all over again! Or decide the love affair is over and kick it to the curb!
I recently completed organizing fabric meant for certain projects & kits. I used individual containers with lids that snap-lock. Each has a label. Now I can find what I am looking for without rummaging through too much. Next, my notebook needs to be updated with my “inventory”

I clean the mess (that’s what makes me lose the love) and then I start something new! I have lots of UFO’S
I go to the local quilt store and walk around touching he fabric, than I think of what I want to mame, buy a. Yard and go home aNebraska get in my stash
I stayed with my mom for almost 10 years and had fabric at her house and at my own. I am now back in my house and trying to go through my fabric to find what I need for a baby quilt. Seems like whatever I need is in the other house, so I go through it really often. Have sorted out several projects and found lots of fabric I didn’t remember buying.
I get out my quilting books and rediscover all the patterns that inspired me to collect all that fabric.
I start looking for a particular fabric and start seeing ones I had forgotten about!
I give away (donate) the fabrics that are holding me back! Or, I make up a quilt to giveaway / donate that uses up a fabric line, in a simple pattern, so that I can move on from it! Then I can get some new fabric that make me happy and enthused ๐
There is always a new baby! I just pick a color and away I go! Thank heavens for stash in these times of economic hardship!
Whenever my sewing room gets out of hand I take hours (sometimes days) putting it back in order. I love to take out all my fabric and touch and refold each piece. I have found lots of precious memories that were long lost, pieces from my Mom, who has been gone now for over 11 years๐ข, and pieces from good friends who I don’t see often anymore. I ๐ to search through patterns too, hoping I’ll be inspired to make something unique with all the new stuff I just rediscovered in my stash!
Sometimes I forget what I have cause sadly I can’t display my fabric either. So, I lovingly fondle what I have and with I had more time to quilt.
I just start petting my fabric, look through patterns that I’ve saved for someday! That usually gets my juices flowing!
Sometimes organization or reorganizing helps, sometimes shopping reminds me of what i have already, sometimes i just stand and sip my tea and admire my curating skills
I find a beautiful pattern and think of someone who would love a quilt as a surprise!! ๐ This fabric is so awesome!!!!! ๐
Find a pattern I love, then go shopping in my stash. crystalbluern at tds dot net
I go through my fabric and revisit and pet them and plan new projects with them.
My husband (God bless the man!) emptied out my entire sewing room while I was working long hours and away on youth mission. He re-painted, tore up the old carpeting and put down laminate. The transformation was stunning. When I got home, I had to put everything back in the room, so I touched EVERY.SINGLE.PIECE of yardage I own. Where before I had hit a creativity rut, I now have fresh ideas and a box (3 boxes actually) of pending projects. Each and every time I go in to sew, the fresh feel of the room, and the ability to find all my fabric, is a gift. (p.s. FB post shared on my FB page)
I start organizing my fabric, cuz when I sew, things get out of hand and my work table gets messy and nothing looks good! Another thing I do I’d look at my Pinterest quilting board for inspiration, then go pull fabric into a lovely pile on my work table, to go along with the other piles on my table… Eventually, projects get finished!
I absolutely love love this fabric and I’m still in love with all my other fabric in my stash.
find a great pattern…
I do one of two things. Either I pull out my collection of quilts that I want to make one day, select one and then do “shopping” in my stash or I go through the stash and often it inspires a project idea. Or sometimes it just reminds that I adopted certain fabrics with a project in mind. I recently went through my stash and realized that I have a lot of teals. Since they keep grabbing my attention at the quilt shop it’s time to make a teal project.
I am in the process of unpacking my sewing room due to building a new house. It has taken 3 years since we are doing this ourselves besides each working 50 hours a week at our full time jobs. I am so HAPPY to see what I have and discover it all over again!!!.
I organize my stash. Sadly I don’t have shelving to display it and so it is put away in totes. When I get the time (stay at home mom of two busy teenagers and an even busier 2yo) I go through my totes and fall in love all over again
I fold and resold my fabric love to just feel it and plan new projects
I, too, reorganize it. And while I have it all out, see if I can come up with new combinations – and remind myself of the sets of fabrics I love to put together, and see if I’ve thought of the right quilt for them yet.
I reorganize it. But, I think Ali has a better idea! I think I’ll follow her lead!
๐
I get to looking through my fabrics for a project and next thing I know I have my stash out looking at what I have. Gets me anxious to finish my project so I can start again.
My sister gave me a Hugh bag of fabric and I just wasn’t loving any of it. So I put it away. About a year later, I pulled it all out and went through it again. Now I love it all. What was the difference? I believe that our creative process goes through changes and something we wouldn’t consider now may be our favorite later
I take the time to really actually go through it and organize it. Honestly, the only time I lose the love is when I forget what I’ve got. I usually just need a reminder and if it results in a cleaner sewing loft then it’s a bonus.
I talk to my aunt and she always reminds me of why we love to quilt.
I just paw through it. Taking a little time to take it all in and observe the colors and patterns. Maybe take a look online for inspiration.
Since I am still unpacking after our cross country move, I am unpacking and touching EVERY piece of fabric I own. Trying to organize everything so I can use it more easily, and am purging/selling/donating excess – this after getting rid of over 12 copier boxes full before I moved. Trying to keep what I LOVE and will use, and rehoming the rest.
I take my stash out for a beer…then I come home and refold and fondle it!
I reorganize…. get to find long lost UFO ‘s.
I create my own FQ bundle from the stash! Mix ‘me up and see what happens.
I throw all my fabrics in a big pile, put on some Barry White and roll around in it.
Not really, but golly it sounds good don’t it!
๐
I re-organize my fabric. And sometimes i just sit there petting my favorites and whispering ‘my precioussss’. ๐
