Oh my goodness what a couple of months it has been and I am glad you are all still here.  It is already the middle of the year so it seemed a good time to get everything caught up, do some virtual housekeeping and let you all in on what is going on for the last half of the year since we are growing!

(This is a big post, you might want to grab a drink!)

We are really big!

With over 30 THOUSAND BAQS members we are the world’s largest progressive sewing/quilting group. We have doubled down on the fact the we are blatantly LGBTQ friendly as well as having always taken the stance that Black LIVES and Black MAKERS matter. A love of quilting and sewing NEVER need be coupled with oppression, lack of scientific rigor or cruel beliefs and behavior. Progressive quilters are a legitimate economic force in the industry and we demand better from those we do business with.

We are liberal AF!

We have never hidden this and anyone who was surprised and slammed the door on their way out has not been paying attention for the last 8 years! Our plan remains to be the loudest, most forthright  quilting and sewing group when it comes to the topics of women’s rights, BIPOC equity, trans and gay rights as well as being squarely against putting babies in cages in detention centers across the US (yep, that is still going on).

It is totally possible to be people who support social equity who also love, a good drink, a good quilt and a good F-bomb dropped at just the right time.

Your support of BAQS means positive change

As part of this dedication I am pledging 10% of all BAQS profits to progressive social action. Currently we will  support each chosen organization on a 6 month basis in hopes of sharing the love as widely as possible. This is NOT just a one time event, injustice never takes a holiday so we can’t either.

My Pledge

For as long as I continue BAQS as a business I will take that 10% and divide it between organizations doing solid work to gain equity in the lives of Black people and those of color, as well as safety for the Gay and Trans Community as well as the rights of women including the topic of reproductive health.

With these things in mind  I am very excited about two things that are getting their start in July!

PART 1

The Big BadAss Sewingroom ReDo!

For those who have been following me on instagram (you really should) know that I have been working on my “new” house for 2.5 years and the time has finally come to tackle the sewing room. I have not sewn a stitch in almost 3 years besides some masks while perched on the corner of my dinning room table. Oh how I miss it!

But the time has come and I am taking all of you along for the ride. So make sure to check back here weekly or sign up to get an email in your mailbox when a new update is posted. This is scheduled to be a three month project with every conceivable thing needing to be done. From a new ceiling to cabinets and cutting tables to maybe even some new sewing machines when it is all said and done! A video tour of the carnage is coming soon!

and……. Hold tight for part 2!!
