Have a beautiful day.
Well duh…wrong post…But yeah…I need all the EN- lightening I can get!! Lol ??
I need a scrap plan like a stinky dog needs a bath??Right now I have two big tubs of leftover quilt scraps I’m trying to figure the best way to sort scraps. I had started sorting the colors when I began quilting…in clear shoeboxes…soooo way past that size now. But as they say, Where’s there a will, there’s a way!! This too shall pass!! Sooo happy to be here!! You guys ROCk!!
Sounds like an enlightened plan!
Lights, lights, lights! How cool! Especially love the red bandana logo!
Oh my god yes! My Middle aged eyes need all the light they can get!
Lights! Would love to use this. how “brilliant”!
Nice I didn’t know they made these♡
Love to have he help of these lights !!!
Those lights look great. Eyes need all the help they can get.
I always need more light.
Can always put lighting to good use!
Oh, yes, need more light!
I always need more light! These look fantastic.
Hello BadAssQuilters! Happy birthday to all having a birthday this month. Hey that’s me too, next week?! Happy quilting to all?
Scraps… I have a basket I use. I have organized the strip ones by color. Now to use my Accuquilt to cut smaller precuts into posible future projects. Sounds great, right? Let’s see what reality brings to the table…lol!
I’m always feeling I need more light. But, maybe I can’t see as well as I used to. No, that can’t be it. It’s gotta be the lighting, yes?
Ahhhh yes. The aging process definitely makes the need for light an ongoing issue.
Those lights look great & helpful!!
I definitely need more light when I’m sewing. I have an Ott lite with a bendy arm and I try to position it just right, but it always casts a shadow or gets in the way with my embroidery machine.
I never seem to have enough light when sewing.
the more light the better… the strips look great!
I do find myself seeking out light. I have two desk lamps on my sewing table plus the overhead and sometimes I wish I had more. ?
I do need more light these days! I’m lucky in that I can take my glasses off and see really close, but good lighting always helps!
Congratulations!!!
I have them sorted mainly by color in gallon bagS
The not so fun part of being dysfunctional is lack of organization. I am half way there! But scraps are just in a container with no organization at this point.
My true bitty scraps are just in a basket. The remainder of my stash-fat quarter and larger is arranged in rainbow order in clear plastic tubs.
10 years ago I cut anything smaller than a FQ or 1/4 yard into 2 1/2″ strips, 2″ strips, and 5″ squares, then I brought a quilt store and everything since then one big mess. I just closed the store, so now I am looking to find a way to get it all organized and used.
I have clear plastic containers and zip lock bags. I cut my scraps into 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3.5, 4, 5 inch strips, squares and triangles. I love scrap quilts!
I stuff them all into a bag that I have to root through every time I want something 😉
I try to organize them by color, but if the bin they should go in is full…they get tossed in the bin next to it. It’s a mess.
Organize scraps? Oh, hell no! I’m too busy working on my latest project to worry about what I am finished with. Large scraps go into a bin marked “Fabric with no plan”. All the small stuff is jammed into a large clear plastic bin.
I started a system of 1 1/2 squares, 2 1/2 and 3 1/2. I have made some tops but now i cut the widest strip pissible and save it for later. The cutting is tedious. Im also considering 1 inch squares….help me i cant stop! Then using on point fusable to creat fabric for projects.
I don’t. I’m a complete disaster.
I keep all my scraps in a plastic tote and about once a year I donate them to someone who loves working with scraps.
I organize by color and general size (no pre-cuts as I work intuitively).
If the scraps are big enough, I cut them into charm squares and sort them by color in drawers. If they’re strips, they go into a different drawer. If they’re oddly shaped, but usable for crazy quilt type blocks, they get thrown into bins.
Happy… Happy… Birthday Week!
I have some clear boxes for the little bit larger scrapes and clear bags for the smaller pieces.
It seems when you are working with your scrapes they tend to populate during the night so when you return to using them they have doubled. I tread on trying to keep up with scrappy population.
I have a 9 cube storage unit. The cube colors and the scraps in them match. Now I just need to decide what sizes to cut them. And that’s where I’m stuck.
I cut anything smaller than a fat quarter into the largest strip I can. Then the strips are in plastic shoe boxes by width. I’m thinking of sorting them by color instead because I end up digging through all the sizes to find the color I need. The larger pieces are folded and placed in larger boxes, that are a mess right now, but are supposed to be sorted by color.
Scraps are sorted by color and kept in lg clear plastic totes. I drilled holes along the sides so the fabric has air flow. I have a rack the the totes fit on perfectly. Batiks, flannels, etc… are kept in separate totes. 10 days of partying sounds good too me Maddie.
I keep all my scraps from each project. Put it all in a zip lock bag. If there are bigger pcs will combine with other like size pieces. Then every few projects, I’ll go through the bags and seperate unable vs toss. (Because I keep it all in the beginning) a scrappy memory block happens when I get enough usable scraps, I might even make a memory quilt of all my quilts when I have enough.
I have hinged clear plastic boxes that are organized by color. They stack in my closet. But then there is the disorganized pile overflowing from several small baskets. Every now and then I just want to toss them all!
I have a rolling cart with rainbow colored drawers. Each drawer gets it’s color scrap. As there are 2 drawers of each color I have my second red designated to whites/creams, second blue to teals, my second purple to multi-color, etc. I find it works well and gives me the ability to sort quickly.
I have clear drawstring bags that i stuff small scraps into – if they are bigger pieces I stack them in the cabinet with other fabrics. (Of course now they are all in boxes in storage until we find a home to buy).
I love the idea of the birthday count down! I have long joked that my birthday is a month long celebration in August, for one day is simply not enough!! Viva le Maddie’s birthday month! =)
Well, my scraps are not organized at all. They are all thrown into one GIANT basket that I bought at Target. No organization at all–other than to save them. Had all sorts of idea at first about color sorting or cutting them into 2-inch squares with my Accuquilt cutter, but that lasted a couple of days. I agree with Paula. I need a class on organization.
I’m not good with scraps so I save them for a friend and she uses them in her quilts.
I have three baskets that I put my scraps in. They are split up by batiks, larger cotton scraps, and smaller cotton scraps. It is not a good system. :-/ I tried doing Scrap Therapy once, so I have a whole bin of scraps I cut into squares, but I’m not happy with how my scrappy stuff comes out, so I gave up on that. I could really use a class on managing my stash…..it’s not a gigantic stash but it is out of control.
