When times are hard one of the best things we can do is draw closer together as people and become a human bridge of compassion for each other to lean on.
One of the best ways to hang out is by getting away together to sew and quilt and perhaps drink a wee bit of wine and eat a serious amount of junk food! ( Fine Becky, you can bring some Kale as well!)

If you (like me) are in need of some serious friend time I am going to suggest picking up a copy of Handmade Getaway and then dive into the pages and swim through an endless bounty of ideas and inspirations for things to do with friends.

This book is lush. Gorgeous photography, beautiful paper as well as stunning content means this is a book that will earn a place on my shelf for a long time to come. Click here to order your very own copy of Handmade Getaway

I also think it should be on YOUR shelf as well! If you agree leave a comment telling me the most fun you have had out with friends and you will be in the running to get your very own copy of Handmade Getaway as well as 5 BadAss Quilter car decals for you and a group of close friends. We will pick our winner on Sunday the 21st. The winner will be announced on facebook and will have 48 to claim their prize.
Well it seems that something is wrong with my website.. sigh… so lets move comments for entry over onto FB. We will still pick our winner on Sunday the 24th and I will add all the names that commented here over to that list as well so everyone still has a chance to win!!!
Love the looks of this book. I would love to have ideas about how to keep the get togethers interesting.
The best time with quilty friends is every Friday at coffee. The exchange of ideas and suggestions flow freely. The women I am with are so very talented and I bask in the light of creativeness and skill. The laughter flows freely, as does the love I am so very lucky to have such incredible friends. I have the best time every Friday.
But I would still love to win the book!
Love you, Darlin’!
Hi Mattie, I would love the chance to win the book. More sewing knowledge the better.
Interesting book! My favorite time out was with my sister when we went fabric shopping at all the shops in town. We found lots of bargains! haven’t been on any retreats. Sounds like they are great fun.
Would love that book to share with my retreat friends.
I would love to have ideas for entertaining friends. We are kind of stale at parties lately.
Homemade Getaway! Perfect title for me. I am a homebody who loves to quilt and make projects. I would love to have “gatherings” round the fireplace with my new friends.
Such a hard decision …. the best non-quilting time was getting married at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Victory Lane with the loan of black #3 race car and our friends and family from all over Canada and the U.S. A very casual, very fun day for everyone. Most fun quilting adventure was spending one day with my cousin as we drove around Illinois, Missouri and Kentucky to visit the Quilting Museum and as many quilt stores as possible. Looks like a great book and I’m sure we could find many projects to enjoy!
This looks like a really neat book. I am all about a girls getaway
My friends, Molly, Marcia, and Margie meet at the library every week to sit and sew our projects, give each other advice and encouragement, and friendship. Molly died in August, she was my closest friend. I have been working on an applique project recently I would love to consult with her about it. Oh well, sew forward. It is basically the highlight of our week to see each other. It is fortunate to have friends where you just enjoy each others company, even if it’s only two hours a week.
This looks wonderful, would love to read and share the ideas with friends!
Neat book. Best times are sewing/”class” get togethers at a LQS. Lots of laughs as well as sewing/embroidery….well maybe some eating…goes on. But the best of this is Maddie is back!!! Hope you are doing much better and the house comes along smoothly for you.
Oh heck yes! What a gorgeous book!
My girls trips are necessary! I love when we all stay in a rented house together!
Wow! What a wealth of ideas for new girlfriend adventures! Every year, my tribe meets for a quilt-a-thon weekend in the middle of winter. We travel around our home state (Alaska) to remote lodges and cabins. Our only requirement is electricity and wine and snacks. Favorite SECRET place so far is a 5 hour drive from Anchorage, plus a 45 minute boat ride, to a place that has no road system and sketchy cell service. Handmade Getaway would be a great addition to our library. Thank you!
i would love this. i am always looking for ways to improve my skills and a vacation. yes pls.
Some of my motorcycle girls and I make quilts for breast cancer auctions and do shop hops together. We would love to share the book and enjoy new ideas. One year we all wore tutus for tatas!
That time we handmade Vagina* Chocolate lollypops to sell as a concession at The Vagina Monologues to raise funds for a women’s group non-profit.
* actually labia pops
Need to commit to more creating with friends — bringing in younger friends with crones & sages.
This looks like a beautiful book and I would love to read it.
I would love this! The Girls and I (Lizzie, Cindy, Nanci, Jenell, Felicia, Sherry, Nikki and Elgalene) meet once a year and retreat together for a week. New ideas would be wonderful!
