Like many quilters I also have a lot of other hobbies… in fact you could say that I am sort of a crazed crafter! So when I saw this new collection from INK & ARROW Fabrics I KNEW i was going to love showing it to you and getting to play with a bit of it myself!
For me knitting is a nice portable break from quilting at my longarm and since I travel with my knitting I need project bags. And of course making project bags means more chances to buy fabric.. you can see how this is a wonderfully symbiotic relationship!
Honestly you don’t even have to start from scratch. Sometimes the most satisfying project start with a purchased base and then expand from there.
The small grey bag ( above) , was from the dollar section at my local craft store!… and since I can never leave well enough along I even dropped in a lining out of this happy-happy fabric! It is just the right size for Sock Knitting!
I really like to use fabric in ways that make the best use of the pattern.. so you can see that on the zipper of my me-made pouch (below) this stripe was PERFECT on either side of the zipper and would make perfect binding should you desire to use in on a quilt!
The best trick to making any yarn project bag is inserting grommets to use for threading the yarn out so the bag does not have to be open all the time. This is especially important for those of us who have curious pets who love nothing better than to rummage in our bags and chew on yarn ( dangerous!)
I had the hardest time deciding which fabrics to use for this bag! This collection is WOOL EWE by Ink and Arrow and is arrive in shops RIGHT NOW!
As you can see I did two grommets on my WOOL EWE bags since I am getting ready to do a two color knitting project and want access to two colors of yarn at the same time. I have tried running two from the same hole but find that they tend to tangle. Doing a 4 color project.. add four grommets… it is easy!
Check out my video below.
As usual I made my me-made bag in a rather organic, seat-of-my-pants fashion but if you would like to make a yarn bag and then add a grommet these are a few of my favorite patterns out on the web for your enjoyment.
The wonderful people at Ink and Arrow have given me not one but TWO amazing FQ stacks of WOOL EWE to give away to BAQS readers. Just answer the question in the comments and you will be in the running to win! We will announce the winners on Friday Sept. the 1st on the BAQS FB Page. (Hint mark you calendar now to check to see if you won. Our last 2 winners lost out on their prizes by not checking in to win!)
Are you multi-craftial? Which crafts are your currently enjoying and is there carry over from one to another at times?

I enjoy embroidery which I sometimes add to fabric projects or just hoop them and gift them. I also love to do watercolor painting, but it takes a back seat to my quilting and stitching.
Love sewing, knitting, crocheting, and quilting… a little bit of everything!
I am a multicrafter. Cross Stitch and quilting. Working on a quilt with both.
I am a multi-crafter for sure! I quilt and rug hook but I also love to paint in Alcohol Inks and draw 😀 That was a great tutorial and I love that fabric!
Adorable! You are correct. I want to win.
Quilting, sewing, rubber stamping, slow knitting
Oh, yes, I love and engage in a multitude of crafts…. Quilting, knitting, sewing, crocheting, embroidery, counted cross stitch, and beading are among my activities. Some involve portable projects, and some are not which is why it’s great to have so many hobbies! There are definitely overlaps in a number of these crafts which is great as I’m almost always assured of having supplies on hand to finish a project!
I’m a quilter, knitter, overall crafter (especially with glitter!), and I just started making little girl and baby clothes. I like to keep my hands busy.
Dude, so many typos. I kinda hope you don’t approve that comment
A: these are stupid cute
B: my philosophy has always been #makeallthethings
C: quilting is my first grown up crafting love, but I also paint, knit, needlepoint, embroider, kid craft, and garden (especially if they’re fairies involved)
D: I know my way around some power tools too
E: I want a scroll saw for Christmas so that I can make homemade wooden baby toys (you know, now that my kids are too old to want or need them 🙄)
Lots of variety here….
Crocheting, Cross stitching and Quilting just to name a few.
As a knitter/ sexist, these are perfect for making project bags.
Adorable fabric set! And love the colors!!
Totally, always have something going.
I love printing with my gel plate. I print on both fabric and paper. Have started an art journal. While I love fabric, I have gotten into mixed media and collage.
I love my gel plate and print both paper and fabric. Now that I am into paper, I have been doing art journals. I can collage in my journal using both paper and fabric that I have printed. I have big ideas for art quilts from my printed fabric… But, I get so addicted to using my gel plate that I seem to have a surplus of fabric stacking up. Hoarding, nah!
I’m a quilter, cross-stitcher and knitter. Prior to carpal tunnel surgery on both hands, I also crocheted. They don’t really carry over, although I did make an afghan with a cross-stitched design on it for my mom.
I was a multi crafter until I found quilting……..now I multi quilt with 3 projects going at one time !!!
I love this fabric. So cute–I could make an adorable skirt for my daughter that just started her 1st Speech Path job. She is working with 3-5 year olds. They would love it.
I’ve focused primarily on quilting. But when you know how to use a sewing machine, it opens up all sorts of other project possibilities. If I like it, I go for it!
I enjoy knitting and embroidery. I fluctuate between the two every few years or so.
Currently Embroidery is my passion.
Yep, me too. There’s always a knitting project beside my chair and hand quilting in another room.
Definitely! I sew and knit and have done many other things too – calligraphy, jewelry making, etc. Quilting is my happy spot, but knitting is a close second.
In addition to quilt making, I also knit … and make altered books … and cards to mail. I love having different media to play around with.
🙂 Linda
Quilts are tops for me but I always have a pr. of socks on my knitting needles…you can get a lot of sock done watching your favorite baseball team !
Quilting is at the top of my list right now. I have engaged in garment sewing, cross stitch, tatting, bobbin lacemaking, and I keep trying knitting. One day I might get the hang of that. That is very cute fabric. Will check my LQS for it.
I am a quilter and crocheter. I want to become a knitter because I love hand-knitted socks.
I am not a knitter, but I love the sheep and the stripe. I am a striped binding addict!!
Love it!
Something tells me my mom would love to have a bag or two like that! Sew ingenious!
OH, definitely! I spin, then knit up the yarn I’ve made. Sometimes I dye my own fiber before spinning it—that’s fun! And of course. I quilt, and sew the occasional garment. And I am beginning to dabble in weaving as a way to use up some yarn stash. Maybe someday I’ll n
Be able to make a simple top from some handwoven fabric.
I’m try-crafial. If I see it I’ll try it! Right now I’m gearing up for Christmas and 5(!) new babies in the family so I’m knitting and sewing most. I’m loving circular baby playmats so round bindings are my biggest challenge. Patterns and color inspirations definitely cross over!
Always have many things in the work. Love the grommet trick! I’m going to tu. Up to my studio and put grommets in a couple of project bags. Thanks! Still looking for a local source for ink and arrow. Sure would love some of their fun patterns!
I am definitely a multi-media, multi-method maker. I have been quilting for a little over 5 years and love it; I always have a quilt project, or three :-), in the works. I have also been a general sewer – clothing, home decor, etc. – since middle school. I do a little bit of embroidery on occasion too. I also enjoy working with yarn, mostly crocheting, but have plans to learn knitting this fall. Most recently, I have made felted crochet projects, bowls and coasters mostly, and really like them. I bought a loom this summer and am learning to weave and my hubby is restoring a spinning wheel that belonged to his great grandparents so I can try my hand at spinning. I also make jewelry occasionally and have dabbled here and there with simple painting techniques and some wood items; however, textiles are what I love best. Not a lot of carryover yet other than in the form of embellishments.
A number of my yarn-loving friends would be very happy if I were to make them a bag using these beautiful fabrics! Love the sheep print.
So many crafts, so little time! I sew – clothing, home dec, quilting – crochet anything and everything – knitting – embroidery – counted cross stitch – have always enjoyed trying all types of crafts – I’ve sewn various types of bags to hold crocheting and other projects and have crocheted bags, bowls, baskets to hold other kinds of craft projects – definitely craft cannibalism at work!! These prints are adorable!! I must have them!! I’d make bags for my equally crafty siblings 💞💞 and myself of course 😁 great giveaway – I’ll definitely mark my calendar and check back – thanks for the opportunity!
Another multi-craftial person here. Quilting and knitting are my favourites of the many I crafts I have done. And oh do I love bags…I love making bags, buying bags, carrying bags… I’m just an all round bag lady. I would love to win this adorable fabric! Thank you.
I use to be a multi tasker…….. painting ,sewing, knitting and then there was quilting. When I found quilting that was that..I do have about three projects going on at one time.
