Panels can get a serious bum-wrap in the quilting world.. but they can be a busy quilters best friend!! Nothing makes a quicker quilt than a panel and it does not have to be boring!
While you can always just add a few borders and call it good, think bigger and more creatively – make it a statement piece that will totally be treasured by the lover of your panel’s topic.
Panels are a fantastic starting spot for the fans of anything from playful Minions to elegant winter scenes. Panels do the heavy lifting in a quilt design leaving you to have fun sewing!!
I don’t think anyone makes panels more fun than the people at QT Fabrics. Take a peek over at their site and use the search term “Panel” to find something for everyone in your life. Spot something you love and then pop over to your local quilt store… QT fabrics are sold nationwide!
Join me Thursday July 27th at 9 pm Eastern over on the BAQS FB page as we talk panels and how to get the most out of them while still making fast quilts with lots of pizzaz! ( set a reminder on your phone!). Everyone who joins us for the Livecast/ Video will be have a chance at a wonderful fabric filled prize pack!! We will announce the winner on FB on August the 7th.

I have a like/dislike relationship with them. They are so narrow, often off-grain, and many are too cutsie for my taste. Still, they can make a quick-ish baby quilt or comfort quilt if you have some coordinating fabric to make them larger. I like how you can then quilt around the motifs and call it done. Now the batik panels are in a class of their own! Love those.
Had to leave a comment to say I’ve used the Minion panel in a quilt before! 😀 It fit right in the middle of the Yellow Brick Road pattern blocks.

thanks for the inspiration Maddie!
Hi Maddie – you might want to edit your post from June to July (ppl should be able to figure it out tho).
I sure love that panel in the middle!
Thanks…. got it fixed. All night kitten fostering has my head a little foggy!
Doggone it! I’ve been working a lot with panels lately and will have to watch the rerun. I’m going off the grid for a day or so…
