Quilt Market Crazy
Edit: #18 Lynne McFern you are the winner of the fat quarter bundle! Please contact me by 8:48 pm Sunday the 26th to claim your prize!
It is Monday and I am home from a whirlwind trip to Spring Quilt Market in Portland OR. I left out on Friday morning before dawn had even had time to show it’s crack and then cooled my heels in the airport for a delayed flight. This was ok since I used the time to chill and soon I was on my way.
I even had time for an amazing 4 hour nap on the plane!
Soon enough I was in Portland and I was even greeted by a bit of blue sky! I think it was the only blue sky the whole weekend but I took it as a good sign!
Next was a quick hop onto Portland’s amazing MAX light rail transit system. People this city knows how to do public transportation right! The rail took me from the airport right to the convention center easy as pie!
By about 1:30 on Friday I was walking in the doors of Quilt Market to the already steady humm of 1000’s of people ooohing and ahhing over some of the most stunning fabrics, booth displays and products there are available to today’s quilter.
My first stop Was Bari J. Ackerman’s booth to see the work I did for her.. what an adorable booth!
Her booth was the perfect balance that highlighted the fabric but gave you room to move and gave your eyes a visual place to rest. It was easy to know why you were there and easy to visit with this adorable lady that I am thrilled to call my friend. Alas in all the crazy we did not get a photo together! poo! Her collection is in stores now as well as online in places such as Hawthorne Threads You are going to love Bijoux .
I met so many wonderful people that I had only known online.. this was THE very best part of the show.
I made a quick dash to grab a hug from the ever so wonderful Ms. Ebony Love of Love Bug Studio fame. Then for good measure I gave her my pants! ( You know there is a story there!). People this girl is the best bundle of energy and sweetness I know.. you must go like her page and learn for yourself why she is a real LOVE!
And this one… NOTHING but trouble.. really.. Capital T which rhymes with B…. Flaun Cline of I Plead Quilty I would not think twice about giving this woman my kidney.. she is that cool!! She might look sweet… but don’t let that million dollar smile fool you- pure trouble this one!
Not much later I ran into Judy of Quiltopia Studio… in fact she spotted me before I even saw her! I swear that being in Quilt Market is rather a lot for a girl with ADD.. I did not know where to look first.. so i am glad Judy shouted out to me!
Next was a quick visit with Natalie Barnes of Beyond the Reef
The colors in Natalie’s booth were swoon worthy.. such a fresh updated take on the beach look.. I really like it!
Next was a chat with the people at Cloud Nine fabrics. Can I just say.. ADORABLE?.. and Organic. And really if you are sewing for a sweet newborn that is the time when you want fabric that has been created with care since it will be up next to baby’s sensitive skin! Melissa From Generation Q magazine and I had a wonderful visit with these folks and hint hint… you will be seeing more of this fabric very soon {que the suspenseful music!}
My landing pad for the weekend was the super comfy booth of the Generation Q Magazine people. Do you know the Gen Q people?.. if not I highly suggest checking them out. They are a wonderful quilting lifestyle magazine that brings the newest and best fabrics, products and designers to you in a way that feels as relaxed and easy as a summer picnic. By-passing the hype and getting down to why quilters do what they do and not to mention how they have fun! Make sure to check the Gen Q FB page for even more amazing Market pics!
Tomorrow I will put up part 2 where I find a huge swan, feel virtuous for eating a power bar and not an amazing Voodoo Dounut and see so much more eye candy that my head is still spinning!
Until then maybe you would like to take a chance at a delicious Fat quarter stack from the Fine folks at Generation Q magazine and Michael Miller?? This collection is called Sorbet and it is as fresh as Summer. If you would like to be part of the giveaway please leave a comment about what you plan to sew this summer and I will be drawing for a winner on Friday! (Giveaway open in the US and Canada only)

I’m going to sew a slew of water-resistant picnic blankets for my upcoming outdoor wedding!
Comment number 143 closes this giveaway with 143 participants!
Good luck to each of you!
Hey, thanks for the great beyond the reef shout out! It was nice touching base with you in Portland!
What a fabulous Quilt Market, what a fabulous Portland….
Hoping I did not enter twice…
It was nice to put a face to the name. Like the sherbety colors in that stack. I am going to machine quilt my one inch postage stamp quilt for my bed this Christmas. Fun blog and I just foubd you on Facebook. Love being a Badass follower. 🙂
I’m finally going to sew for me. I want to play with more art quilting to hang in my studio. I always sew for other people and this will be the first, totally because I love it, home to look at project. I was going to do abstract florals and these colors would be the pièce de résistance for the whole thing! 🙂 I love your site and your links and the work, I’m inspired.
Several area quilt shops had people at the market, so I know I’ll be seeing some of the new cool soon. Glad you share so many pics & stories!
This summer I hope to catch up on my WIP and UFO so by autumn I will be all ready to start some new projects that I have been sketching.
Hmmm…I have a summer purse cut out, just gotta find the time to sew it together. I’m going to be doing customer quilts this summer. I’m excited, because they are all wonderful people who inspire me and I’m hoping my creative juices keep on flowing.
I am working on a foundation pieced pineapple quilt in my fav colors of green, oranges, purples and blues, using my grandmothers feather weight machine that I inherited.
My travel project is a GFG, all scrappy, unplanned. Looking to be fun!
Out of my comfort zone….but I am trying to broaden my horizons!
I think these fabrics would look so cute for a baby pattern called Cutie Pie; it has circles appliquéd on the squares.
I am hoping to make roman shades for myself this summer. I’ve had the fabric for months, but since I make them for a living, mine are perpetually at the bottom of the list. In my spare time I’m hoping to start on a wedding quilt for my son.
These cheery fabs would be just the pop of color to add to my new kitchen! You know the things. Toaster cover, fancy smanchy don’t you dare touch those towels and a bit of quiltyness valances on the picture window looking out back in the country however I would actually pay it forward for those in more need than I. Could be a skirt shorts summer top or even a blankie or two to comfort a little one! Maybe little stuffed toy to hold on to to help sooth! So in other words. Pick me. Pick me. I really want to pay it forward!!
The colors! The dots! What’s not to <3 !! Lots of inspiration right there …
I’m planning on losing myself in my sewing room for most of this summer. After my husbands passing away and having my world turned upside down, I’m finally getting my feet steadied and sewing is going to be my big escape, therapy. I plan on finishing a quilt I started for my god child, it’s still up on my design wall. Also I have two bags I had started for my nieces.
I love the sorbet colors and they would really brighten up my sewing room. So I hope you pick my name 🙂
Working on a challenge quilt and hopefully a baby quilt with that lovely sorbet fabric!
A bright and cheery quilt! The cheeriest I can find! My very dear friend just went through breast cancer and was told she was home free until she started developing small bumps on the back of her neck. She found out she had a very rare cancer so back through the second set of treatments. She was just told she’s in remission once again! She definitely deserves something that brings the biggest smile possible to her beautiful face and feeling the hugs from me when she uses her quilt! Perfect for such a good celebration!
Thanks for sharing the International Quilt Market experience with all of us!
Oh my! What to sew this summer? I’ll continue to hand piece itty bitty hexagons. Some are 1/2″ and some are 1/4″. I also will be designing and making a modern baby quilt.
I am winding down for the summer as we have a cottage with no electricity!!! So, I have only three projects lined up! A “schlep bag” with Michael Miller fabrics in black and yellow.., a quilt with 70’s fabric (orange and green flowers!) called Beaded Curtain and a Chenille floor mat, with floral panels. I love all the new colours and patterns..and am lucky enough to be going to the Houston Quilt Show this November so am looking forward to it as much as you look forward to Quilt Market!
I am hoping to start on a competition quilt this summer 🙂
I hope to make a few pieces with a fresh new line of fabric by Felicity Miller for free spirit fabrics with open space for me to PLAY with the longarm!
So bright and cheery. A wonderful group to brighten up a room.
This summer I’m sewing baby things, quilts, change pads, burp cloths, whatever I can for my new niece or nephew!
I love your updates!!
I’m making charity quilts, a miniature quilt for our quilt show auction, a quilt for the show, and a wall hanging for the presidents challenge. Also, postcards, mug rugs, and ATC’s for the upcoming Houston International Quilt Festival.
Wedding quilts!!
The fabrics are so bright and sunny. I love working with anything that keeps me awake! I am looking for a new project and trying to finish some of my UFO’s. I promised myself I’d finish at least one every three months this year! Of Course, Im always starting something new in the meanwhile!
I love your commentary about Market, and the FQ pack is just to die for! My daughter’s husband just got back in the States from Afghanistan (he’s Army stationed at Ft Campbell) and they need a happy quilt and table topper for their table. Peace and love, Maddy! you rock!
Anna
I love you play by play of quilt market. Someday I’d love to make it there. The colors of those fat quarters are yummy and I would use them to make a quilt to be raffled off for MS!
i am going to start on my dresden plate quilt and work on some ufo’s and quilt
peg in ks
Beautiful, fun colored fat quarter stack. I am going to be working on my challenge project for our quilt guild. Why do I always wait until the last minute to do things?
Very pretty colors. What am I sewing this Summer? Hmm, I have 3 tops that need to be quilted. I want to try trapunto, too.
Fun fat quarter stack! Thanks for hosting this giveaway!
Thanks for the chance to win! I have at least two flying geese quilts in my future this summer.
hey Meg! Looks like you’re having a blast! I hope you are planning to be in Houston so I get a cheesy pic with ya! 😀 I love my cheesy pics! I’m already planning out my scandalous wardrobe for it! LOL (i so want the spandax leggings that are printed like a butt with no panties and you look totally naked for real! OMG could you imagine! hahahaa)
For this summer I hope to take a breather and actually make the quilt of my dreams for my own bedroom. I have saved my Beachfront from Robyn Pandolph for me but this Sorbet would make a great little trim at the foot of my bed to do a ‘BAM’ in my girly pinky baby soft room! Love this fabric!
This summer my plan is to make Retro Flowers, the Summer Sampler from Freshly Pieced et al, and start making clothes in earnest, oh and some bags too… There are a lot of plans. I want to try out lots of things, find the stuff I like, learn some new techniques, and just practice practice practice! I might need the rest of this year and all of next summer 😉
My goal for this summer is to clean my sewing room!!! Once that’s done, I have a paper-pieced project that’s been on the go for over a year. Gotta get back to it!
This summer I plan on finishing a mystery quilt top started with my local guild. I also have a wallhanging to work on and quilt tops to longarm for others….I guess that’s a good start
Hello everyone I plan on making a summer quilt with colors of all the flowers in my garden
I will be starting on a quilt for my daughter and a king size one for me. My 18 year old daughter picked out fabrics from the California Girl selection, and a pattern in a quilt shop in Vegas last year. I bought a kit on line that I saw in Fabric Trends magazine a few months ago. Love the bright colors of this line. I have a brand new granddaughter that could use a fresh quilt.
These colors remind me so much of beaches, picnics in the sun and sand!!! I love mini’s so I’d love to make a mini of the beach umbrellas that are soooo colorful! Love your site, posts and your fun vibe to all things quilting!!
Sorbet colors remind me of the orange sherbert I enjoyed so much as a child at a local hamburger place – sooooo Good!, Judy R from Buffalo
Loving the bright colors! I have the circle dance pattern up next. Love what you do
Friend just had a baby and this would be perfect. Thanks for the giveaway!
Looks like a great time! I will be working on baby quilts and other baby items this summer.
