I am a business owner, a mother, a lover, a “Nasty Woman” and for heaven’s sake I am even a grandmother. I am complex, and fearsome, sexual and sassy. I am hot headed, opinionated, loving, and brash. I am smart and wicked funny and can cook like no ones business.
I am a Quilter
I am deeply engaged in helping the world change from it’s limited view of what a quilter is to the expanded view that we are everyone.
We are men and women
We are gay and we are straight
We are young and we are old
We are black and we are white,
We are
BadAss Quilters.
See you soon Houston Quilt Market!

Yes we are quilters and we come in all shapes and sizes. We are badass and I have the license tag to prove it!
Quilting is my stress relief. Like jigsaw puzzles, only I get to determine what the end product looks like!
Yeah I’m with you Maddie, you tell them girl. I’m the same without being a shop owner but add the fact that I can’t sit at all. I also do not like cats in anyway (my personal preference) and can still rock it when I go out even with my disability. My hair is coloured and foiled, my clothes are trendy and my attitude is BadAss. Stop the stereotype people as we come in all shapes, sizes, colours and varieties. We are not all old, grey, cat loving, grandma bland quilters. Now to wait for the world to catch on

You go Maddie! In the past I sometimes referred to myself as a “fiber artist” when I did not wish to be associated with the stereotype people generally have of quilters. While that label was not completely inaccurate since I do more with textiles than quilting, I realize that my behavior only perpetuated the stereotype because it did not give people an alternative example of who an quilter might actually be and what a quilter might look like. Now I embrace my inner BadAss. Thanks for the inspiration. Looking forward to the opening of the SpeakEasy.

All y’all are badass, awesome, quilty, rowdy, and definitely not well behaved. I am librarian, pagan, tattooed, childless by choice, a rowdy goddess, needlewoman and quilter. I work out with a college senior trainer who tells her mom I am a badass.
Thank you for this post. I am proud to be among ya.

Exactly. I can cook your dinner, take your money on a pool table and dry your tears on a six inch hankie composed of 67 pieces of fabric…. . No you don’t ever get the money back 😉

I come from seven generations of quilters that I know of. We are from lower Appalachia. But, I grew up in New Orleans and have spent the last 41 years in The French Quarter. I am the only one in my family carrying on the tradition and am decidedly different from my foremothers. I love, love, love traditional quilts. We have quilts on both sides of the family pre Civil War. I grew up sleeping under quilts my great grandmother made from feed sacks. We moved to New Orleans in 1965 traveling in a 1957 aquamarine and white Chevy Belair. My sister and I snuggled under those fedsack quilts not knowing what our future in the city would bring. Those memories are a bridge for me between country and city. I have taken to making everything by hand. I am an elder orphan so there is no need for speed or output. I am influenced both by my ancestors and the vibrant funky place where I live. I love quilting by hand as my foremothers did. My mothers and her sisters crawled around as babies under a quilt frame but none of them had an interest. My sister and cousins have no interest. I am it. Thank you for all that you do. Badass Quilters rock!

And! I am over 60. Broke my ankle white water rafting on my way to a week of basket making. Not ready to slow down, ready to start the next adventure.
I teach computerized graphic design and use quilts as excellent examples.
I quilter, hear me roar.

Amen, hallelujah, goddesses be praised! Thank you. I don’t have blue hair (unless I choose to), don’t wear support hose, house coats, curlers, hairnets or muumuus. My quilty friends and I are known to be naughty, loud, cuss and sometimes drink too many adult beverages. We are fun and funky, intelligent, adventurous and innovative. We are also some of the most kind and generous people you will ever meet. Quilters. And most definitely BadAss.

Will you be coming to Kansas City in June 2017 for the quilt festival?

Good question!… I am not sure yet, let me give my calendar a look!
I just wanted to say thank you. I am a paramedic/fire fighter for our local 911 service. I am a 48 year old tattooed mother and wife. I am a Quilter. Quilting helps me relieve stress, and restore my spirit before i have to return to the reality of EMS. Keep up the good work.
