The cat is now out of the bag and he is strutting around the shop as we blow horns and throw confetti in the air. We could not be more excited that SPOOL – the brick and mortar store of the BadAss Quilters Society has been chosen as one of top shops in the nation and will be celebrated along with 9 others in the spring edition of Quilt Sampler Magazine.
This is an amazing honor and given that there are over 3,000 quilt shops across the United States we are pretty tickled that our young shop made the cut in it’s second year given that some shops have been trying for this honor for over 20 years. We think that is pretty special given the stiff competition for this award, since let’s face it there are some pretty amazing quilt shops out there!!
The process has been long, intense and top-secret. Store photoshoots, an exclusive quilt pattern/kit, and a very special partnership with Cherrywood fabrics mean that we are bringing you our shop experience through the 10 page spread in the May release magazine. The design of the celebration quilt by Flaun Cline and quilted by me will be kept secret until our store celebration in late April but don’t think I might not share other details along the way so you can celebrate right along with us!
We entered the event not holding back about our dedicated mission to promote diversity and inclusion in the quilt world. We tooted our own horn that there are now over 11 THOUSAND BadAss Quilters and they are what has made it possible for our store to me such a local and national success. We talked about the advantages to being a small boutique style fabric store with a tightly curated look that has a focus on bright, happy fabric and the belief that anyone can be a quilter. We strongly believe that it is our differences that made us shine through the worthy competition for this award. The quilt world is changing and we are very excited to be part of that change.
Thank you for your part in this adventure! As the days pass we will be sharing more exciting news for the store. Including a very special guest artisan who will be joining us for a weekend intensive event this spring. The hints and revel for the excitement that will be our summer store transformation for Row By Row and sharing our rows with the world along with other bits of news that we think you will enjoy.

Very well deserved. I have not had the honor of visiting the shop in person, but looking at the photos makes me feel warm and fuzzy. I love that you are welcoming to everyone including kids! Can’t tell you how many dirty looks I’ve gotten bringing my kids into a quilt shop. Thanks for being you!
