I didn’t realize it was okay to be a badass quilter until Trisha told our guild about the BAQS! I’ve altered almost every pattern to every quilt I have made, just to do it to fit my, or the recipients, personality. Being a BAQ means there are no limitations, any and all rules not only can be broken but are open for your own interpretation!
Trish’s presentation left me rejuvenated and motivated to be the best BAQ I can be!
Bring it on 2015! I’m up for the challenge. Never tried dye cuts, but am I am looking forward to applying it to my next quilt. We are sew worth it!
Being a Bad Ass Quilter means not taking no for an answer. I decided this year that I wanted to try making a quilt. I had all sorts of doubts (I wasn’t good enough, I wouldn’t have time, etc) but now I’m terrible glad I did try. One quilt to meet my new year’s resolution goal became became a dozen plus some other sewing projects. I didn’t let it stop me when I didn’t have a huge fancy stash of my own or all the fancy notions and a big sewing machine. I make do with what I have and now I think that’s part of the fun! I don’t use die-cutters currently but I would LOVE to! Thank your Jolly Elf for a spectacularly awesome giveaway! (Amyjotull at gmail)
Being a BadAss quilter really feels like home to me. I have always believed that there is room in the quilting world for all kinds of quilters. I have always tried to encourage people to be who they are in their quilting. And that in a nutshell is what being a BadAss quilter means to me. I bought a set of Hexagon nestability dies for cutting hexies, but I have not tried them on fabric yet. You know – too many projects and only 24 hrs in the day.
To me, being a BAQ gives me the freedom to play, to experiment, and to make quilts that “Ain’t my mama’s quilts” (although her quilts are always beautiful!). Being BA gives me the OK to step out of the box, and even do a little dance around it if I want to, knowing it’s ok to break the rules.
I have. It started using any die cuts in my quilting yet, but I can see what’s on the horizon and am sure it won’t be much longer now.
Bring a Bad Ass Quilter means I respect my fellow quilters and the art we all love. No die cut here….Maybe someday!
I’m a BadAss Quilter because I like to shed the “little old lady” stigma of quilters. Although I will still be quilting when I’m little and old and I will still be a BadAss.
No die cut for me yet. I enjoy inprov
I like how being a badass quilter means that I don’t have to apologize for the time I spend in solitude creating my quilts. The bonus is that I have a badass quilt designing husband. We collaborate on designs and that is very dear to me. We do not die cut but we do have a (currently malfunctioning) laser cutter and keep meaning to experiment with laser cut fabric.
Being a bad ass quilter is all about doing what I like in quilting without worry about what others think
I’m buying a friends old Big Shot tonight actually so I am just venturing into the world of die cutting.
I am a BAQ in training and love it! I have not tried die cutting yet, it looks very cool but I have not yet had the tools to try it!…yet! Congrats on the 8K mark!
Being a BadAss Quilter means having multiple projects started and having new problem starting another.
It means being me. No rules to stifle creativity.
Just learning to be a BAQ. Not using die cuts yet, but used them for scrap booking.
I’d love to learn more!
Being a BAQ is just making what you want and how you want it! Ignore the quilt police and make things that are a reflection if you. I do not currently use die cuts but have often thought that they would be very handy. Thanks for the chance at these awesome prizes and for being an inspiration to so many. Congrats on 8000. I am sure that you will be at 10,000 before you know it!
I love being a BAQ because I can choose the material and the pattern and not have to follow the rules…just what makes me happy. I do not use a die cut…unless my scissors count…only because I don’t own one yet.
i am a badass quilter. i make selvage quilts, string quilts, scrap quilts, crumb quilts, and everything else in between. i use color….lots of it. i do have a die cutting machine…AccuCut….and just got a new die….a small tumbler. i USE my cutter.
It means to me to do my own thing, break some rules, and not have anybody tell me what is wrong with the way I do things. I have never used one but would like to try it someday
To me it means making a quilt my way….. not a right way or wrong way. I do not have a die cutter yet but hope to one day.
Being a badass quilter means working on projects that inspire you, doing the best you can and sharing your work with others to inspire them!
Just learning how to appliqué so I have used die cuts yet.
I believe I’m a BAQ because it see all types of fabric art as beautiful and we don’t have to follow the rules to get to an established endpoint.
I don’t use die cuts in my quilting yet, but I do use my Cricut every chance I get. Does that count? I would love a machine to use the old sizzix dies I have, and the big shot does that, plus would let me use the accuquilt dies!
I am a BadAss quilter because I say so! My quilting is like no others and reflects me well traditional with a twist. Just like me, a little twisted! Yes, I love die cutting as It is so accurate. And, I love Badass Quilters.
I’ve always danced to my own drummer and that’s no different with my quilting. I love to do things my own way which makes me kinda bad-ass, I think. 🙂 And no, I haven’t tried die-cuts yet but I love the idea. Cutting is my least favorite part. Congrats on 8,000!
I’m a BadAss quilter. I get to swear, make mistakes, and go my own way. You get to do what you want, too without judgement on whether it’s good or bad from me. I celebrate myself as an artist and your artistry too.
I’ve never used a die-cut machine on fabric. My mom-in-law has one that makes stickers for scrapbooking.
Putting an emphasis on quality quilting and loving what I do. What an awesome group of prizes you’ve put together, Maddie! Yes, I have an AccuQuilt die cutting machine.
Being a BAQ is throwing caution to the wind. Working with your hair on fire because you have committed to one too many things. Enjoying the process.
I have not used die cuts but if I loved applique looks like an amazing thing to have. Perhaps cutting out and fusing all the pieces is why I don’t live applique.
Thanks for the wonderful giveaway.
Congratulations! and wishing you many many more. Being a badass quilter means i don’t feel bad doing what I want to do, and so what if my quilts don’t get accepted to the big famous quilt shows?
I’ve never used the die-cutter.
Patterns are okay and I use them all the time but I really like to wing it and do my own thing. I am not presently using a die cutting system.
It started out innocently enough…just a few BAQS pins that I very judiciously handed out to those I deemed badass enough to have earned one. Then came the window decals; even more popular than the pins! I am now known in my guild as the fount of information on all things badass.
I made Ebony’s Downton Abbey mystery quilt from her die cut kit and plan to die cut my own this next time around! Thanks for the great giveaway and especially thanks for giving us a place to meet other members of our “tribe”.
I love that being a Bad Ass Quilter means standing up and supporting all types of quilters, wherever they are in their quilting journey, with no judgement. When I say I’m a Bad Ass
Quilter, I’m also expressing confidence on my choices and desires as they relate to quilting.
As far as die cuts, I haven’t yet used them, but ultimately will at some time in the future.
Congratulations on reaching over 8000 members!
Being a BadAss quilter means I do it my way and ignore the quilt police. Quilting is an art form no matter if you are a beginner or old time pro and a BadAss would never criticize or denounce another’s work. They also know when to ask for helpful advice to improve their skills when they feel the need to as one can never stop learning. To me being a BadAss quilter also means innovation and accepting any failures along the way as a learning experience and growing as a quilter. Yeah, I’m a BadAss Quilter and proud of it.
I haven’t used a die cutter yet but one of these days…….
I can look past strict rules and embrace who I might be! I have been a procrastinator because I thought I couldn’t meet a standard of excellence. I have loved to hear encouraging words and now I am forging ahead knowing that as I learn it will all get better.
I’ll tackle anything in quilting. As long as I’m armed with a seam ripper, I’m game. My daddy always told me, “people a lot dumber than you have done it. You can.” I think that qualifies me as being a BAQ. Actually, I bought a Sizzix Big Shot several years ago with the hopes I could use it for applique. I was tickled to see them come out with dies for piecing. I use my BS all the time now. I got my first 25 inch die the other day. Love it. Finally, what a badass giveaway. On Dec. 27 I will be 60. Haven’t gotten many birthday gifts in my life because of the big day. I would love this gift.
Being a BadAss Quilter means I go against the grain of the old lady traditional quilting, I use fun and innovative fabrics, make my own designs, use pixels, quilt like crazy, make like crazy. I Use contemporary items to inspire my quilts, use new colors, bold fabrics, and all the love in my heart to have a great time making lovely quilts for people I care about.
I’m a BadAss quilter because I do it my way! Since age 6 I have been known to color outside the lines – on purpose. I design and make modern quilts and also traditional ones when I like.
No experience with a die cutter but it sounds like fun.
BadAss Quilters represents community – irreverent and irreplaceable!
BAQS is a great community of people to be inspired and uplifted by. Thankful for this opportunity to win. don’t have a die cutter yet, would love one.
Rules? What rules? Badass Quilters Rule, that’s what! I do use the Baby Go to cut lots of shapes out of chiffon that I use in art quilts. I have no fear in trying new ways to express myself in art quilts, my passion! It’s great to have so many like minded artists aligned!! Thanks for carrying the torch and congrats on reaching yet another milestone!!
I am a badAss quilter because I throw rules out and quilt with passion…like quilting is going to save my life (because it does!). I am embrace color,my designs, and am developing my skills as a fmq badAss. I love to take on quilting challenges. I use an accuquilt go baby. .but have been investigating other die machines. BTW..these prizes are amazing! Congrats on hitting 80000 and thanks for starting the BadAss group!!
a bad ass quilter is someone who quilys with their own style and agenda. I love taking patterns and using unconventional fabric choices. I quilt Halloween all year long, appliqué “minions”, listen to loud rock and don’t care if I’m modern or traditional. I have been eyeing both the brother scan n cut or the sizzix for appliqué horizons. I would love either because they open up so many avenues.
B is for Bodacious
A is for Awesome
D is for Diva
A is for Always
S is for Sassy
S is for Spirited
BadAss Quilters Rule!!! Plus its fun. Nope, no die cutter yet….
Freedom! That’s right I am free to be ME! And yes I am BadAss when it comes to quilting because I let go of fear! Rules? What rules? Never followed them anyway! I am a rebel with a sewing machine!
And no I haven’t used a die cutter yet. But I bet I would have a blast with it!
It’s all about the attitude!!!!! I have never used die cutting.
A badass quilter……she does what she wants, when she wants and tells the quilt police to take a flying leap when appropriate (in the nicest way possible, of course!). She has colorful words in her vocabulary and frequently mutters ‘BMWA’ under her breath. She loves the thrill of a new idea, new tool or new fabric.
To me, being a badass quilter means trying something new, even when it makes you nervous, being a cheerleader for fellow quilters, and having fun!
I don’t use die cutting yet, but I want to try!
I’m a BadAss quilter because I’m entirely self-taught, and (after, by day, tending to career and three kids and a lovely husband = a very demanding life) I’m do this for ME 🙂 I’ve never used dies but I’d love to try one day!
i do not use die cutting in my work to date. I hope to add this in the future though
Badass Quilter… I am unique and original. I do not form opinions based on what I think others expect. I do not judge. I do not follow the “rules”. I strive to improve my quilting because it is my passion. I do swear daily. I love to connect with like minds. I do not think that quilting is for old fuddy duddy ladies who are prim and proper. I believe that quilting SHOULD NOT be included in the “arts and crafts” category. It is an expression of me!
Being a BAQ means, to me, being true to yourself, not just following the pack, and fiercely loving the art and crafting of quilting. It is really what makes my heart sing. Quietly. To myself. Because I’m not a good singer. No, I don’t use any die cutter, but I think it could improve my singing ability.
Being a Bad Ass Quilter means I quilt for me…what makes MY heart happy….what pleases MY eye….
no prizes necessary for me, but congratulations on the milestone
Love being a Bad Ass Quilter (officially) and have been one unofficially for over forty years now. Even gave birth to one…now a BAQ-in-training. (She will receive her mug for Christmas!) My tastes in quilting have evolved from the traditional to art quilts, creating my own fabrics, and modern design, and I know there is more in the future with retirement only a few years away! Have never tried die-cutting…but being a BAQ means you are open to possibilities. Bring it on!!!
To me, BadAss is about making whatever crazy, wild thing my brain and muse conspire upon and knowing that somebody will still love me for it. 🙂 It’s about finding an open-minded tribe and letting the creative energies fly!
And I am just now beginning to explore the world of die-cutting!
