I’m sew thankful for my BadAss community of quilters. I feel like this is such a wonderful and loving place to be lifted up and encouraged in our craft. Being BadAss has removed the fear factor for me and replaced it with an “I can do this” attitude…
Maddie and Flaun…you know I love you both. Sew much. xox
I own an AccuQuilt ….but don’t use it often.
I love being a badass quilter because it allows me to help show a new generation how fun and relavent quilting can be. I have never used die cutting for fabrics before, but would love to try!
To me being a “Bad Ass” quilter is following my inner muse, without worrying if my quilty works fit into “definitions”.
At this time, I do not have a die cutter, but maybe I’ll get lucky and Santa will bring me one 🙂
To me it means simply following your passion. And, no, I haven’t used die cuts.
OMG! This is so exciting ladies! Being a badass quilter means there are no rules and I can make what I like and not have to wait for some sort of quilt police approval 😉 I do not use die cuts, but only because I don’t have a die cut machine.
Congrats on this milestone! Next stop? 10,000 fans! <3
To me, being a BAQS member means acceptance and respect for all quilters and their product.
I have an Accuquilt GO! and a GO! Baby along with a few dies. I don’t use them very often.
Being as I was NEVER going to take up sewing let alone quilting, BadAss Quilters Society is a gift from heaven along with my quilting Playbabes who are always pushing the envelope and the bounds of creativity. Being a BadAss Quilter means following my heart and my passion for color my way in a totally new and exciting medium, plus I can embellish the hell out of it when I’m done. I have used a die cut on paper and have seen it used on material, looks like loads of fun.
Am I a Bad Ass quilter? I have no clue. I’d like to think I’m a rebel in small ways; but, aren’t we all rebels in some form or fashion? I don’t have any die cutting going on in my life; but, I’m dying to own a die cutting machine. No pun intended because I definitely want to live!
it took me a long time to become a Bad Ass Quilter…. I was quilting for a LQS and was always told if I couldn’t make my Longarm quilting look like it was hand quilted I should sell my machine and quit. Well quit I didn’t…. I took classes and found out that I was an awesome quilter and that I already knew more than I thought I did. I quilt my style now and don’t have any problem showing people to the door if my style doesn’t fit them. And yes I do use a die cutter….its a Studio and we are the best of friends. Thank you Maddy for you also showing us that being a Bad Ass Quilter is an awesome thing.
I don’t use die cuts, but would love to start! I love that there is a wonderful group of quilters who accept others as they are, and love the work we do. I am a longarm quilter, and I do my best badass quilting when my customers let me do what I want on their quilts.
To me, being a BadAss Quilter means that I can make whatever I want, when I want, without having to place myself into a rigid category of quilting. I have not yet started to use die cuts, but I have started considering it as something that may be useful to my process.
Being a Bad Ass Quilter at age 69 means I am still in the game! Thinking, learning and challenging are on my menu. Yes, use the AccuQuilt Go and love it.
Being a bad ass quilter allows me to interpret that vision in my head into fabric and thread. I don’t currently use a die cutter but started researching them and am very interested. Thank you for this lovely opportunity. Best wishes to your continued success.
YES, I use die cuts. I have a Baby Go! Great for small jobs, not so great for big ones. Didn’t have room for a big one when I got it, now I do have room…
I am a guy. I quilt. My man cave has more sewing machines than TVs or Computers. My hobby world is dominated by Estrogen, but I carry on. I don’t care about the “rules”. I don’t care for “Quilt Police”. I design and work from notes far more than I do from a pattern. It enables me to play things by ear and make adjustments when I need to without worrying about what someone will think. I donate or gift almost every quilt I make.
Bad Ass Quilter… Yep. That’s me.
Thanks for all you do Maddie!
Paul
First and formost I am a BadAss quilter and I wear my Bad Ass pin to the quilt guild. Now that’s Bad Ass.
I love to take old patterns and put a Bad Ass spin to them. Like using “Day of the Dead” fabrics on a Crazy Quilt.
I will always be a non-conformist and a rebel. I don’t care if I am a gray-haired Gramma. I still sew/quilt to hard rock or acid rock music.
I do have a Go. Baby, but want to change to a Sizzix system cause I’m an Ebony Love follower and she rocks! Just like Maddie!
I consider myself a Bad Ass Quilter because, well, when I read a recent description of the purpose of the group, I thought “well that pretty much sums me up!” I have my own style, that uses a bit of traditional, a bit of modern, and a bit of contemporary (“art” is about the only category I don’t fall into, as I don’t use embellishments and want most of what I make to be machine washable). I don’t feel a need to follow a particular trendy pattern or technique. I play with colors and patterns like a child plays with his or her crayon box. This year has seen me teaching myself and exploring machine quilting, after 20 years of hand quilting only. As I go on, I have felt more freedom (and more support for) experimenting and pushing my own boundaries. All the while I believe that those who are just getting started deserve all the support we can give them; quilt police and “rules” have no place in my world.
I love the BAQS posts, widening my quilt world when I live in a tiny, rural area. Exposure to others’ projects helps me to not do the same general thing over and over again. Positive support is catching!
I have not been able to afford a die cutting machine, so haven’t been able to explore those possibilities. Doesn’t mean there haven’t been times when I was cutting out the umpteenth piece the same size and shape and wishing I had a faster way to do it. 🙂
I love telling people that I am a BadAss Quilter and then watch their reaction. They usually laugh and then I show my ribbon from the exhibition in Chattnooga to prove it! I love the philosophy of BAQS. I’ve never used a die cutter. Thanks for a fabulous giveaway and here’s to the next 8,000!
I have always been a BadAss period. Now, in my glorious later-years, I am a Badass Quilter. Why? Because, if I want to put certain colors and fabrics together, I can. As a longarmer, I quilted a floor cover for a tent. I didn’t get on a chat, a forum, a blog, a site or anything else to ASK the quilt police if it could be done..Hell, I just started and pretty soon I finished….it was a piece of cake. Why should we EVER consider asking permission to be creative? I have not had the opportunity to use a die cutter; but, I’m pretty sure i could dream up something pretty cool to make with it. Congrats on reaching 8000!
ummm ….did I tell you about my yellow burlap pants I made in 8th grade….?
Bad Ass Quilters throw caution to the winds and let everyone be who they are. No die cuts for me- I am going to die with my rotary cutter in hand… Thanks for a chance to win an awesome array of goodies. And congrats on all your success.
Being a badass quilter is a privilege for me because it means freedom to express my experience as a piecer/quilter. It means no matter how good or how perfect my quilt is or may not be it is beautiful and it is acceptable to our society of quilters and that makes it, of course, beautiful to all.
being a BAQ means doing things my way. Making things that make me happy. It is a blessing to make quilts for others. I do not use die cut machines but would like to learn.
Being Bad Ass means quilting my way, following the rules that work for me and ignoring the ones that don’t. Don’t use a die cutter — yet.
To me BAQuilting is looking at a quilt, falling in love with it and then putting my own spin on it. I love my GoBaby and use it often. Also love Spool and BAQ’s.
To me, as a BAQ, I do my own thing, seek inspiration from what I love, and share our projects and skills generously with others. Patterns are simply a suggestion to modify and enhance as suits my mood and needs. I do not have a dye cut but would love to try one. Thanks so much for the inspiration and encouragement to develop as a BAQ!
Do not have a die cutting machine, though would be nice! Being a BAQS means expressing myself however makes me happy. Whether color, design or fabric. It’s all about choice and you should do what makes you happy.
I was born a badass, but it’s nice to find a place to meet my people at last! The style of quilting I do doesn’t lend itself to die cutting, but it’s something I’ve toyed with trying. Since threading a sewing machine at 7 years old, I’ve felt at home under the needle, making any machine my bitch, obedient to my every whim. From vintage straight stitch, to fully computerized (and even one controlled by a Gameboy), my mechanical and electronic harem is varied and envied by literally tens of people. I dye my own fabric, break all the rules, and inspire others to do the same.
Love it! I love quilting. I love colour and texture. I am grateful to be able to dispel the myth that quilts are only made by little old ladies and the Amish 🙂
Being a BadAss Quilter means I quilt for my own enjoyment and to spread the love. My eyes are my judge and I don’t care if anyone else likes what I do! My number one advice to new quilters is to remember it doesn’t matter if someone else likes your fabric choices, because it’s YOUR quilt and yours is the opinion that matters. If looking at it makes you happy, it’s a good quilt.
I have used a die cutter for snowflake appliques!
I love being able to use artistic interpretation in quilting instead of having to follow the rules. No die cuts here.
Love your avant garde style and your loving acceptance of all quilters and styles. No to die cuts as yet..but open to everything.
BAQ represents the ability to like what I like and not worry about trends and fads. It also means that I respect those that are in the trend and fad and can admire their work and see what I can learn from them and apply to my own work without losing myself.
bad ass quilter: when my guild or others turn their nose up because I use pre cuts or I completely machine bind my quilt..yes gasp! No hand stitching! Or I refuse to do needle turn appliqué because I hate it., but I LOVE fusible appliqué …I shrug my shoulders and go on. I do my own thing. I have an Accuquilt Go… Jury is still out whether I’ll keep it. Dies are stupid expensive and I don’t like being “tied down” to the die sizes.
Being BadAss means saying, “who gives a $&@#!” when they say you cant do that with your quilt creation! And no, I haven’t used die cutting in my quilting but if I’m badass, it’s possible that I might :-). Thanks for the giveaway. And congrats!
I love being a Bad Ass Quilter because it means I don’t have to follow the rules or do what the quilt police say. Yeeha. No I don’t use a die cut. N
BAQ means feeling free to mix it up, create what makes me happy, and using a variety of beautiful fabrics. I do use a die cut machine, I like it very much! I am getting ready to use it to create a Kaleidoscope quilt.
I am new to quilting and love the support I can find from places like bad ass quilters. Even being new to it I have experienced a quilting bully in the form of the owner of one of the LQS in the area. I like that y’all encourage everyone and anyone in the craft and it helps me feel more confident.
I believe I am a bad ass quilter because even being younger I am not afraid to tell people I know about my new hobby. And have even tried to encourage other people to join me.
I have never used die cuts before but am interested in trying.
Being a Bad Ass Quilter means I hand appliqué when something should be fused, I don’t follow the rules most of the time. I’m always trying out new techniques and challenging myself. I, however, have not used die cuts. Thanks and Happy Holidays.
BAQ break the rules! They create from their hearts and don’t worry what others think! Life is way to short!
Being a BAQ means picking the fabrics, patterns and quilt designs that I like and never being concerned about what anyone else thinks! I do what I love! Haven’t crossed into the die-cut dimension yet, but I’m giving it very serious thought.
Being a BadAss quilter means that I can let my creative juices flow, without regard to rules or law or it has always been done this way.
I have never used dies, but I am always open to new techniques and templates, rulers and tools!
I too am a BAQ. I started edging away from my traditional roots, feeling a bit alone in the quilting world. And then I started to find my people all over! It’s freeing and comforting at all same time ! I have just started using a few die cuts….it looks a bit addicting! Thanks for the fabulous opportunities! And congratulations !!!
Being a BadAss Quilter means using just enough of the rules to make something that has sturdy construction but totally disregard expectations as to what a piece should look like. I’m making rocking chemo caps for friends undergoing treatment. Making baby bibs that stand alone as function and art. Everything I’ve learned in this last year I’m putting to good use for family and friends. I can only improve from here.
No rules! No die cutter. Imagination at its best!
Love this place! No die cutter here.I am sure my bum right hand would enjoy one… Quilting & designing outside the box!
love your site! I haven’t used die cuts yet. Would love to. I’m new to quilting, been sewing on and off for years. Being a bad ass quilter means to me, I do what I want and it makes me happy. It’s what I love to do and if it’s beautiful to me, well then that’s all that matters! Thanks for the chance!
I quilt what I want, and love what I quilt. My next quilt will have over a thousand 2″ squares so you bet I’ll be using my die cutter for them.
BAQ = no quilt police and the courage to tie them to a rail (at least mentally) and send them out of town on the next train.
Cowboy up, quilters!
I’m a BAQ because we have more commonalities than we do differences, and we all have so much to learn from each other. Don’t have a die cutter, but they seem pretty cool.
Thanks for another amazing give away!
I consider myself a BadAss Quilter because I like to do what I like and not worry about someone telling me it’s not the “right” way. Come on, make it work for you and others will like it! I do not have a die cutter.
I embrace badassery in all aspects of my life but I get particular pleasure from being a badass quilter. I can create my own pattern, I can use someone else’s pattern, I can do a mix of both and there is no reason to justify my choice to anyone.
I have not used a die cutter yet but I am intrigued. Learning new things is badass.
Being a Bad Ass Quilter means I can relax and do what I love to do without worrying about what other people think or are doing. I don’t have to be in step with anybody. I can be true to the inner workings of creativity and let the thread fly. Die cutting is awesome especially for applique. Who wants to scissor or rotary cut hundreds of leaves, etc. ? Congrats on the 8000 and the impact you have had on the quilting world.
