What a wonderful selection of prizes! I’m a bad ass quilter because I do anything I want quilting related and I don’t believe in quilting rules. I love to play and experiment with my fabrics and try to push my personal limits. For me quilting shouldn’t be just a flat quilt for the bed, and many of my quilts show that. As for die cutting fabric, it’s something I haven’t ventured into yet. But, I have been silently coveting the cutters my friends have. Just please don’t tell them. I don’t want them to think they have to borrow them to me.
I’m happy that many of my fellow Philly Modern members have now also become Bad Ass Quilters! I use my mug proudly. Thinking about how great a cutting system would be… Congrats on 8,000 of us!
Being a Bad Ass Quilter means doing it my way. I may follow the rules, I may not. Most likely not. I do have a Go! Baby, accuquilt. that my sister bought me for my birthday last year. I love it.
When I’m quilting, I’m planning the next project. When I’m sleeping, I dream about quilting. (Or someone walking in on me in the bathroom…what’s up with that?!?) I start and end my day sewing, reading, or reading about sewing. My husband recently called me a whack job…which I think meant BAQ. Yeah, that’s the ticket.
Freedom is what it means to be a BADASS Quilter. Freedom to do what you want with the material you want. Freedom to not follow the rules. Freedom to try something new and love it even if no one else does. I use accu quilt dies sometimes.
wow, some amazing products! BAQS inspired, no quilt police! I have an AccuQuilt, but it doesn’t completely meet my needs.
After being a graphic designer for 20 years, being a quilter allows me the opportunity to create with more than a keyboard and for myself, not for a room full of accountants. I rarely, but sometimes, uses a die-cutter to cut hexies. Thanks for offering the prizes and helping to spark creativity in quilters.
I love being a Bad Ass Quilting Grandma, no rules, flying by the seat of my pants.
I have not used a die cutting machine, but would love to try. Thanks for all the generous gifts from the companies.
Peace on our earth starts with the sewing room door. No die cut, I like to cut.
Being a BadAss Quilter means creating what I want, the way I want, and encouraging others to do things their way as well. It means having an open mind about others’ choices and styles, and enjoying the variety and possibilities that are almost endless. It means when something won’t work one way, find a BadAss alternative and keep making.
Oops! Forgot to say I haven’t used a die cutting machine before. 🙂
Quilting is creative expression that results in making others feel good. It’s giving a modern twist to tradition. From cardboard templates to rotary cutting to die cutting to …? Haven’t tried die cutting yet – seems great for appliqué.
Being a BAQ means that I take chances at my quilting and try to try new techniques and keep my mind open to all possibilities. I haven’t tried using die cuts yet. It’s definately on the list!
Ive got the Circuit, Sizzix Big Shot, and tons of dies that I have used for my scrapbooking but thought I would try using it with fabric for appliques. Im in the process of cleaning my stash mess and squeezing in some piece quilting time, wanting to try free motion quilting, applique on blocks, there’s just not enough time in a day for every technique of quilting I want to learn. I want to be a Bad Ass Quilter!!!
Bad ass quilter equals anyone who quilts and isn’t afraid to break rules! I don’t have any die cutting tools, but sure wish I did!!!!!
I identify myself as being a badass quilter because I like to follow my own rules. My idea of perfection is quite different than that of the traditional quilters. I enjoy improv work. I enjoy creating as I sew instead of working from a pattern
I have not used dye cuts myself but do know people that do.
First the easy question, nope currently I don’t use die cut, but it would be fun to try.
To me being a badass quilter means no judging and acceptance. I am a novice quilter compared to so many, but nobody cares that I don’t hand sew my binding, or that, my lines aren’t perfectly straight or that it takes me forever to finish a quilt due to two small helpers. When its done, its fucking awesome because I made it and all the other badasses feel the same way.
To whoever wins, keep it badass! We are all awesome and keep doing what you do!
Being a Badass Quilter means doing my own thing and not being afraid to experiment and make mistakes. I have the freedom to create something amazing. I haven’t used diecuts with quilting, yet. I use them in scrapbooking and just haven’t tried running fabric through them yet, but I love the idea.
Being a BadAss Quilter means carrying on what my grandma started with me almost 20 years ago. Although I am still a total newbie at this, I have a lot of fun, and it’s a good way to take some time for myself as a mother of 4 young children.
I have yet to delve into die-cutting, but it’s surely on my bucket list!
What does it mean to me to be a badass quilter? Someone close has said that the only reason I quilt is because she quilts. What she does vs what I do is like comparing apples to oranges. She has no interest in what I do, so they have no idea the honors I have received this year. 1st place in wall hanging at MQS and 3rd place at MQX. My name and quilt is in the Dec/Jan issue of Quilters Newsletter. These are honors that I truly am in awe of and appreciate more then words can say. She will never know, unless someone else tells her. I’m a badass quilter! I’m not one to brag, far from it, but I would love to rub her nose in this just a little bit. But, since we aren’t exactly speaking, that won’t happen.
Do I use a die cut system? No. Would love to. Cost is a big factor.
Congrats Maddie on reaching 8000 and surpassing that number!! And thank you to all those that have donated to this giveaway. 4 quilts are going to be VERY HAPPY!! (I can only dream to be one of them)
I love being a Badass quilter because we have all of the fun! Sadly, I don’t have a die cutter.
Wow … too bad I can’t participate as I live in Greece…
I wish everybody buckets full of fun!
Being a BAQ means that I can create whatever I want to, without worrying about “the rules.” Yes, I have used Accuquilt dies and love it!
Congratulations on the milestone! I think being a badass quilter means being confident, authentic and fearless, without tearing down others in the process. I’ve not used die cuts in my quilting but it sounds neat!
Being a BAQ means quilting it my way, looking for new ways to play out my ideas! Taking the traditional and turning it on its head.
I haven’t tried the Sizzix yet, but hope to do so!
Since becoming a BadAss, I have strenuously avoided the “rules” and “musts” of quilting. Fiber is my medium, I am an artist. Full stop. Don’t have to justify it, or explain it, or struggle with the craft/art conundrum. Just do the work and find places to show it to people!
I’m a retired nurse who is now a Badassed Quilter and glad of it! I’m having so much creative fun and treated myself to a new TOL sewing machine. I just bought my daughter the Big Shot for Christmas, but I’m drooling over the Big Shot Pro. Now if only I could win one, just dreaming!
Hmmm….I guess it just means I make what I like and what my family likes and I don’t care what anyone else says 🙂
I haven’t used die cutting yet, but only because I haven’t had time since I started working again….but working means I have more money for fabric so that’s good right? 😉
Ahh Maddie being BadAss is a free feeling. I have always been a little different in doing as I wanted to do even when the quilt police got after me and believe me there have been one or two…lol So it really has kind of been the way I have always been but now it is nice to know that there are a bunch of people who feel the same way. Really I look at it this way: No we never felt like our points had to match or our thread had to match the background or that we had to quilt it a certain way but there were people who really put the pressure on to makes us feel like we had too. Thanks to you for giving us an avenue to know that there are so many more people like us and that is what we did need!
Being a BAQ means having fun experimenting and not worrying about rules and what others think! I have not used a die cutter. Congrats on 8000!
Being a BadAss quilter means having freedom of expression. Not having to conform to traditional standards.
I have never used a Sizzix before, but it looks like it would be fun to play with!
Maddie, you are amazing! Thank you for uniting the quilting community!
Cannot win since I am from Over the Pond – but I think I need to do some Graffiti Quilting.
I met you at QuiltCon, right around the time you first launched. I knew that I loved everything about your joyous approach to quilting, and just life in general. I want us all to love the process of the things that make us happy, and to support each other in doing the same.
p.s. i do use a die cutter on occasion, especially for strips.
Being a Badass quilter means following my own rules about color and pattern in deciding what I like. Thank you for the chance to win, Merry Christmas. No I do not use a die cutter.
Being a BAQ means not worrying about what type of quilting I do, or having to fit in with a certain group. I’m happy to know there are others out there who enjoy quilting and also have mouths like sailors and little concern for what others think.
I have not used a die-cut before but am always looking for new techniques to try.
It’s a great giveaway, thanks to Maddie and the sponsors for the chance to win.
being a bad-ass quilter means I can create my own patterns and blocks without following stodgy traditional patterns. I wish I had a die cut machine. I saw one demonstrated at a friends house and it is a real timesaver.
I don’t die-cut but would really love to have a machine as I can’t seem to get accurate cuts for those patterns which require that. For that reason, I prefer to be a creator of my own patterns which do not require the precision of traditional patterns. This allows me to be a truly “bad-ass” quilter”.
To me, being a Badass is to do your own thing and try to share your joy to get others into it.
forgot to say, I do not have a die cutter. In fact, I just made a quilting template from a file folder! Whatever works I guess!
Being a Badass quilter means creating quilts in your own way. Believing that you can do anything you want, no rules. I do have a die cutting system and use it occasionally but not on a regular basis.
I am a Bad Ass Quilter because I don’t fit in just one niche…I love traditional quilting. .I love modern. …I don’t let others make rules for me. If I like it , I do it!..My color choices are my own..I make quilts that speak to me..that make me happy!
I have not used die cut tech with fabric. .only with paper when I was still teaching. .
BTW…I love your fb page and posts
Being a BadAss quilter means I get to be creative any way I feel. I can put colors together any way I want. I love to use my GO cutter for projects.
To be a Badass Quilter you have to sew what you like and not be swept into doing the same as the masses. Yes I do use a die cutter for quilting. Happy 8000!!!
I believe there are no mistakes or rules in quilting. Only new design opportunities and points of view. Quilting has been my therapy in some if my most difficult times.
And yes…I mix batiks with cottons! Bwahaha!
What’s it mean to be a badass quilter? it means not to give a fuck what people think of you or your work, no matter how some choose to quilt, be it machine or by hand or to be a traditional quilter or to be a super out there quilter that ill always appreciate the work someone took to put into that awesome piece of art. Mixing traditional with modern whatever i don’t care as long as you love doing what you’re doing! I’ve never used a dye cutter before maybe one day i will!
The BadAss Quilters Society is a place where quilters can be comfortable sharing their work with other quilters. There is no judgement on who you are or the kind of quilts you make. Everyone is encouraged to be themselves and do their own thing.
And, yes, I do have a small sizzix cutter and one die that I have used. I love the smallest hst die. I am a scrap quilter and love working with small pieces. That’s the first die I’ve gotten and it has really helped speed the scrap cutting process.
Being a Bad Ass quilter means being true to who I am in my quilts, trying new things when so inspired, AND teaching as many as I can to bring them into the fold.
This is an awesome giveaway–THANK YOU FOR THE CHANCE!
I love being a Badass Quilter because this community has such an inclusive attitude. The only rule is there are no rules! I’ve progressed over the years to the point where I embrace this anything goes philosophy and I think my quilts look better and better the freer I am. My seam ripper lies neglected and unused…
I’ve never used diecuts but I’d sure enjoy giving it a go.
Congratulations on each milestone, Maddy. You rock!
My motto has always been, if you can’t see it from a galloping horse it does not count! Newly retired, my quilt room has exploded into a quilt house. Every quilt leads to 10 others that I want…no NEED to make! Have not tried the die cutter but sounds like a way to get even more quilts made….back to sewing now!
I became a BadAss in Houston – I love the freedom and the no judgement zone!
Being a BadAss Quilter is doing things my way without fear of shame or reprisals from the Quilt Police. Who gives a rat’s ass if the way I want to make something doesn’t follow the “rules”. As long as I am happy with the outcome, that is all that matters.
And I’m not much on die cuts because so far, it hasn’t been important to me. Give me a rotary cutter and I’m happy.
Being a Badass quilter means I can do whatever pleases me with no rules and no judgements. I have a Go cutter, but haven’t used it much.
