For me being a badass quilter means the freedom to just start quilting without a thousand questions scaring me into inaction. I will just begin and do it for me! I have not yet tried die cut quilting but have been checking out the systems and their reviews. I think there is a die cut system in my future!
Badass Quilters ROCK!
Being a BadAss quilter means making the quilts I want to make and not worrying about the quilt police!!
I have never tried the die-cutting machines but they intrigue me!
Being a badass quilter means making whatever I want and welcoming all others to do the same, free of judgement.
A badass quilter does it her way!
I love to tick off the “Quilt Police”! That is why I am a Bad Ass Quilter! I have never used Die cut but have always wanted to.
I’m an old Bad Ass quilter, I don’t think there is any wrong way to quilt as long as I’m happy with the results. I have used a borrowed die cutter and was happy with the results. I’m not lucky enough as yet to have one of my own.
BAQS is what it is all about, even though I don’t use die cuts. Patterns are great, but let the fabric take you where it may.
Being a BadAss Quilter means I I don’t have to conform to what others think is a typical quilter and that I have the freedom to make up my own rules for creating and stitching quilts. Also, I am not yet using die-cutting in my quilt life. Thank you for obtaining all these BadAss prizes!
I quilt what I feel, how I want, and well patterns are just suggestions anyway. So that makes me feel like I am a Bad Ass Quilter. I also want a person to enjoy quilting anyway they enjoy it. Every quilt is a personal work of art. An expression of what you enjoy, love and feel. So do what you want, be a Bad Ass Quilter. 🙂
I have not tried dye cuts yet, not that I will not, just not found the right way to use them in what I am doing.
It means I don’t have to follow anyone’s rules. I can create my own style.
I don’t use any di-cutting tools at this time. I’ve never seen one in action in person.
As a badass, I try to march to my own beat! The quilt police can take a hike! I do my own thing and enjoy the work of others. Isn’t that what makes us special in our badassness?!
I love being a Badass Quilter because it means that I am fierce. I am unique. I have the right to my opinion. I am unapologetic for my mistakes. I am encouraged to use my imagination. I can say fuck & not be criticized. (That’s the best part)… not being criticized. We deal with that everywhere else in life. Why do it when you are doing something you enjoy?? I love being a Badass Quilter. I am happy for whoever wins this great giveaway… because all of us Badasses have to band together!!! There are too many crabbyass, judgemental quilters out there!
I’m a BadAss quilter because I don’t believe in quilt police anymore. I can make up my own rules, quilt with anyone I want, and only have to please only myself! Quilting should be fun for everyone! You’ve gathered an incredible group of sponsors for prizes! How exciting. I have never used die cuts and would love to try them out. Congrats on 8,000 Maddie!
I’ve been a bad ass quilter for over 40 years, but couldn’t find my peeps until now! I decided at the last minute to make a quilt for a gift this year. The lightbulb went on as to why I need to invest in a die cutter machine. Two days spent cutting squares and triangles when I could have been sewing. Never again!!! Thank you for forming such a fun, supportive, and insprirational spot for us to gather. Now, back to regularly scheduled sewing.
I make quilts because it brings me pleasure. I have my own style, my own methods, and my own favorites. I enjoy seeing the differences between my work and others; I can learn from them and expand my skills because I am a BadAss Quilter.
I do have a die-cutter, but my sister needs one! 🙂
I’m a badass quilter because I threw out the rule book years ago and the quilt police don’t scare me. I also have the bumperstickers a pins to prove it.
I use a die cutter when I sweet talk my friend (a shop owner) into letting me borrow it. She’s actually a pushover and she let’s me work for her in fabric shop.
What does it mean to me to be a BadAss Quilter? It means I’m part of a family of fiber fanatics who know that it’s OK to break the so-called “rules” and go where our hearts and imaginations lead us.
Do I use a die cutter? Not yet. My quilting “room” is a portion of my bedroom, so I don’t always have the space to try things that I think I might like. No longarmer machine, not even a large domestic. Until three years ago, I sewed exclusively on the 1950’s Singer that my mom taught me to sew on. But then, like a car, it reached the point where it really wasn’t worth spending more money on repairs, so I bought my Janome 8077. Finally, I could drop my feed dogs and free-motion quilt like the big kids!
Most of my quilts go to charity (Quilts of Valor, The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, and my church’s fair), so I haven’t done much “heavy duty” quilting, but am starting to experiment more, and the books in the prize pack look inspiring.
My BAQS rosette from the exhibit in Des Moines has pride of place on my bedroom mirror. Congrats on reaching 8000!
I’m a bad ass quilter because I love to start with a pattern and then do my own thing. I’ve used some die cuts but do not own one. I’m a longarmer…so do more quilting than piecing. Love it!
I am a BadAss Quilter because I make my own rules. I like taking a pattern and putting my own spin on it. I am also not afraid of salty language in my art either.
(I use an die cutter for a lot of quilting because of issues with my hand. It’s saves me a ton of time and cuts extremely accurate pieces that I just have to sew together.)
I’m a badass quilter because I don’t always like to follow the rules. I like to add my own flair to what I make.I do not use a die cutting machinebut would love to learn how.
BadAss Quilters do their own thing. Whether it’s modern or traditional, they make what they like and own it. I do not currently use a die cutter.
I am a bad ass quilter because I am not afraid of trying something new and different. And I don’t use die cut machines.
GREAT JOB CONGRATS!!
I don’t use a die cutter but I’d love to learn. I think I am a bad ass quilter because I’m willing to learn a lot and make mistakes and keep trying! Here’s to all the quilters who learn from each other – about quilting and life!
Being part of the BAQS gives me a place to hear about the coolest, latest quilt stuff available. No judgment, just loving the art. I do not use die-cuts.
No die cuts yet. Being a BAQ means taking what my grandma taught me and giving it a new spin!
Being a BadAss Quilter means I quilt what I like, how I like. If it isn’t perfect, that’s OK, it is mine and I love it! (I die cut)
Thanks!!!
The Badass Quilters Society means I have found my place, the spot where I fit, the place to be myself and create and share freely. I was here in the very beginning and I am honored to wear my badge, carry my card, drink from my mug and display my sticker upon my van…..thank you Maddie for rocking all of our world’s and creating a place where we can be ourselves freely!
I don’t use a die cutter in my creations so far in my quilty world but I look forward to using the new one when I win this prize pack LOL!
I am a BadAss quilter in training. I quilt with my two teenage daughters, who are much better quilters than I am–they are the badasses. We do a lot of free motion and appliqué but have never used the die-cut machines. We should.
My status as a Bad Ass Quilter simply means I quilt without fear! Patterns are a suggestion, creativity is honored. All members of the quilt police are shunned (a tremendous social order tool) and my quilts are accepted for what they are, mistakes and all. I try to learn from everyone and am dedicating to improving my skills with each quilt. Thread, weave, colors…everything is much like a legal drug! And I have to say YOU have facilitated my growth.
Being a badass quilter means not being afraid to try new things and to experiment. I have not used a due cutter yet.
I’m a Bad Ass Quilter because I think we should all do what we love and respect other people’s quilt styles and color choices. All styles are great!
I’m also a BAQ because I just go full speed ahead and try new things, knowing that if I screw them up, I’m still learning something.
I haven’t tried die cutting yet, but it is on my list of things to try.
I love everything about you and your blog. I love that you don’t take any sh*t and are fearless in your awesomeness. A friend has an AccuGo cutter that she has been gracious enough to let me use a few times. It certainly speeds things along! Have a BadAss Christmas!
Love being a badass quilter and my group of volunteers. We supply quilts of comfort to the local domestic abuse shelter. 157 in the last three years. I do use a die cut system to kit some of the quilts for the center.
I’m having fun improvising my quilts and quilting lately. I am proud to be part of the BAQS!
Also, I haven’t used die cuts. . .yet!
Of course, I am a Bad Ass Quilter! Love traditional quilting, but with an edge. I have used some die cuts from a friend’s cutter, but since I don’t have one, I generally have to do it the old fashioned way (hint hint!!!!!).
Congrats on 8000!
To me, a BadAss Quilter makes her own rules and lets her creativity shine. And no to the die cut question.
I love being a BadAss Quilter because I love the camaraderie month quilters. My sister got me started quilting in 1991 and I have not stopped since. The wonderful people I have met and become friends with throughout the years have enriched my life and made me a better person.
I love being a BadAss Quilter. Supporting other quilters is wonderful. No matter if you are a beginner or expert. There is no judgement, only support. Sharing the BadAss philosophy has become an everyday experience for me. Thanks!
Love your name. Congrats on getting 8,000 followers. Awesome!
it gives me a sense of freedom in my quilting. That it doesn’t matter what someone else thinks of my quilts so long as I think they are Bad Ass, then they are.
Love being a badass quilter and not having to ‘follow the rules’. Instead I follow my heart and my own aesthetic.
I don’t currently use die-cuts for my applique, but I’m certainly willing to try anything!
As a male quilter, I have ignored the societal messages and assumptions regarding gender roles in order to pursue this art that I enjoy and love. I feel like I’ve always been a bad ass quilter 🙂
Currently, I’m not using die-cutting for my quilting, but I’ve certainly considered it since I sew a lot of string quilts, etc.
I am a BadAss Quilter because I pair fabrics like no other and I’m not afraid to do it. Someone the other day told me they were worried their quilt was getting too busy but then realized it didn’t look like one of mine yet so they felt better. I didn’t get all worked out about that because I’m a BadAss Quilter and I’m going to make busy quilts if I want to!
I don’t really use much die cutting in my quilts … yet … but I’m not against it …just haven’t made the space for a cutter yet.
Way to go BadAsses on 8,000 likes!!!!
Drooling over the prizes. I would be over the moon if I won.
Being a BAQ to me means doing my projects, my way, and ignoring the “quilt police”. I use die cutting to the max in my projects!
I love quilting to see the finished outcome of pattern in progress!! No die using of my own here!!
I love you! 🙂
Being a BadAss Quilter…hmmm, I am. I love going shop-hoping for fabric, dreaming up my creations, annoying my husband about another needed tool, toy, etc. Love my rulers, yummy fabric, great machines. Of course I use die cuts and have Accuquilt. It speeds the applique so much.
Being a BadAss Quilter means making stuff that makes me happy, and throwing labels out the window! I don’t use die cuts…but I do have a super cool laser cut totem appliqué from our neighborhood totem carver awaiting me to work on it sometime soon (hopefully!)
Being a Bad Ass Quilter means I get to do what I love best and that is help make others (and in turn myself) happy. Most of my quilting goes to fundraising efforts for (or as gifts to) patients and their loved ones. My 23 year old daughter broke her neck three years ago rendering her quadriplegic, because of this tragic event I have spent countless hours in hospitals, rehabilitation, and long term complex care centres. There are so many individuals that have no-one in their lives to love and care for them. I find sewing for these people often brightens their days and gives them something comfortable to snuggle into.
I do not use die-cuts YET, but I do have a friend with one who loves hers. She has offered to let me try it out when we have the time 😉
Thanks for this great contest…
i am a new quilter. Found your site and I am in love with it.
Thank you. You keep me going when Im frustrated.
As a BadAss Quilter I love to try new tools and techniques. I worked at a quilt shop (that’s like putting a drunk behind tbe bar!), I belong to two guilds, teach classes, and thuroughly enjoy the sisterhood of quilting. I have not tried die cutting but like to add it to my techniques.
What a wonderful giveaway—I always wanted to quilt but wasn’t able to until my last son graduated from high school. That very summer, 1993, I took my first quilt class and my oh my, what a gift it has been. I always say, “It is a gift from God”. Nothing relaxes me more or gives me more satisfaction. When making a quilt for a friend or love one I think about them the entire time and then able to sleep under it before gifting it. A greater gift for me than for them. Thank you to all the quilting world. I am sorry to say I do not use die cut YET. It is on my list, time and money has it’s way of keeping me slowed down. Again, many thanks for the time and talent to all the quilting world that assists me and many other quilters.
Being a BAQS is just plain Fun!! Fun should be our goal in life especially those of us that are retired. We have worked hard, know let’s have FUN!
bad ass might explain the seven quilts waiting to be quilted! Or my whole house devoted to quilting. Or my upcoming vacation being dedicated to quilting!!!
I do not have a die cut machine but would use it for appliqué.
I love quilting. It is fun to see all different kinds of patterns and how different fabrics can change what the pattern looks like. This prize is amazing!!! I do use some die cuts.
happy to be old enough, badass enough to quilt without fear of the Quilt Police, do it the way that makes me enjoy quilting, I love Aurifil thread but haven’t yet tried die cutting.
Being s BAQ means I can do whatever part of the process of making a quilt I want to whenever I am in my sewing room and I am sure to have a project at that point of the process.
I live, eat, sleep, dream about quilting, embroidery, sewing, crocheting! I have a scan n cut but barely used. Keep busy creating and giving mostly to charity.
I am a bad ads quilter. If it gets done If my points don’t match I don’t loose any sleep over it. No complaint on those who are gifted one of my quilts.
Confidence. I feared the quilt police of WV. When we moved to St. Louis, I used the relative anonymity to explore textiles. I cross-stitched, sewed, quilted, and learned to weave. Still the textile police come out of the woodwork. Screw them! My husband calls my things art. My daughter wants them. My best gf brags on my handwork. Bad Ass quilting is confidence!
I love becoming a BadAss quilter it is the best hobby ever. I just started using a small fabric die cutter I bought online. I love it and it helps me make great baby quilts. Now I would love to get a larger die cutter to make larger quilts that does take longer to cut by hand. I have two daughters getting married in 6months so I need to get both queen quilts done. Wish me luck.
Being a BadAss Quilters means I don’t have to follow the crowd or play by the rules! I can let my creativity flow and dare to be different! It means interacting with other quilters and creative minds to share and learn! It means constantly being inspired by new patterns, fabrics, techniques, trends, other quilters and just my imagination! It means having enough confidence in my art to create and share them with others…sometimes weathering criticism and sometimes praise!being a BadAss Quilter means I never get tired of the creative process and being thankkful every day for people like Maddie Kertay who provide us with resources, inspiration and a forum to share our love! I hope to be a BadAss for a long time to come!
Hi Everyone!!! I love the vibe in the BAQS. for various reasons, I’ve been a bit of an outsider since I started quilting. This group will shake me up and keep me from getting too comfortable. I welcome that.
I haven’t added laser cut tools (Sizzix etc) to my gadget shelf yet but I am intrigued. Especially if I can create custom dies or modify dies….I have lots of ideas thanks to EQ7 but hate, hate, hate repetitive cutting. Sooo boring……
