So did you know that there are people who collect poison bottles, and that they are beautiful?… I mean the bottles, although I am sure that the collectors are totally lovely people as well.

My friend Misty Cole of Pick Your Brain Designs has even dedicated a very interesting quilt to the topic and asked me if I would recreate two of the bottles from her quilt.

I knew right away what I would use. Silks seemed just right to give the glow of the colored glass that these old bottles are known for.  Misty’s process was easy and gave to lots of room to make them my way. poison bottle pink

On the pink bottle I went with the idea of the quilted glass you see on some bottles and the butterfly was just one of those happy accidents when you have piles and odd bits of fabric around your sewing studio. I did trapunto the bottle to get more dimension and because well, more is more!

The green bottle felt very deadly and mysterious as if when you opened it you would not only see a faint mist rise off the bottle but you would also hear the voice of Lana Del Rey rising out of the bottle.  (What can I say, I have a good imagination!)  I embellished with a bit of velvet ribbon and freehand quilting to add dimension to the bottle.
