I am a gardener, not of vegetables but of flowers. At one time I had a stunning front yard that would make people stop to take photographs ( please note that all that went to hell when I opened up a quilt shop, when one has a quilt shop one has no time for anything else – more on that another time.)

There was a time when I could not garden since there was so little quick reward, and I did not understand the investment.

There was hard work and then waiting. Waiting for the weather and the rain and the right amount of sun, fertilizer and good luck. When all those things come together the magic happens and amazing flowers filled my yard much to my delight, but first I had to make the investment.

Over time I learned the art of patience and that a year was not such a long time to wait and invest in something so beautiful and that a real mature garden was created with the loving act of patience over many years. I learned that investing in good plant stock, good tools and the right soil amendments went a very long way to spectacular outcome.  Each cost something for sure but what it paid me back was 10-fold.

The same can be said for quilting and those we choose to help guide us in our own growth.  Their talent and sharing is not pulled out of a hat. It comes from many long years of attending to their craft. To watering, fertilizing and caring for this gift in order to bring it to others. It means failed projects that are learned from, techniques perfected as well as gathering the courage to share their light with others who want to learn and value what it has taken to get to that point.

THAT is what you are paying for when you take a class, you are investing in yourself.  You are paying for the years of hard work to get to the point not to mention the prep time it takes to create a class, the samples, the hand outs and every other little thing. But most of all you are paying for the gift of talent and the opportunity to learn.
