Flower Bombed is finished! Holy moly this one has been a long but generally happy haul to the finish line! I will have to check my books but I think I created the top in early January and then it sat around while I decided what to do with it. Come March I had it figured out and loaded onto the machine.
In between those points I went to Disney and caught the plague a couple of times – that sort-o-shit really cuts into your quilting time!
Of course the very minute I took this off the frame I noticed that I had missed filling in the pearls on this bit so back on the machine it went.. lordy I am so glad that I use Leader Grips for loading my quilts. This made it fast and easy to go back on.
The borders were still wet from spraying so I did not want to take it outside so a full on shot was next to impossible. You will notice my feet in this photo. I am standing on a ladder above my bed and I still could not get high enough to get the whole quilt in any one shot. The one room where I could has craptastic light – such is life.
Since I get the question every time I will tell you that I used 2 layers of batting. Warm and White and then a fluffy layer of wool. There is an additional layer of batting under the trapunto work that makes up the Hexi flowers.
The quilt is a totally original design and all the of quilting is free motion. I did use circle templates and a small ruler on some sections. The thread is Fil-Tec Glide with match bobbins of Maga-Glide.
Below you can see the gridwork in blue pen that was penned onto the top in order to have guideline as to where I used orange-peel stitching.
The hexies were all hand pieced and then appliqued by machine onto the quilt top in a totally random pattern.
I am now officially pooped!.. I will come back tomorrow and add the story of Flower Bombed. If you have any questions please feel free to leave them in the comments and I will answer them tomorrow 🙂
